    Abstract: A process for the production of linear fiber-forming polyesters, especially polyethylene terephthalate, wherein vaporous reaction products are separated in an improved manner by suction withdrawal from the polymerization reactor through the action of a fluid vacuum jet or aspirator which is supplied with recirculated glycol vapor as the propellant or jet fluid for the aspirator and also by further suction through the action of a recirculated glycol liquid operating a liquid circulating vacuum pump in a final separation of non-condensable gases such as nitrogen from residual condensable vapors. The process is especially useful in preventing the discharge of the vaporous by-products into the surrounding environment during the production of the polyester product.

    Abstract: A process for producing a composite novelty or effect yarn comprising a base thread and a fancy thread combined therewith in a texturizing jet nozzle having both an interlacing effect and a suction effect and operated between a low jet pressure and a high jet pressure, the low pressure being applied while the fancy thread is conducted through the jet nozzle under a lightly braked, lower tension than that applied to the base thread, and the high pressure being applied while the fancy thread is conducted through the jet nozzle under practically unbraked, tension-free conditions. The resulting product is useful as a doupion-type novelty yarn which provides commercially valuable effects in woven fabrics.

    Abstract: Sampling apparatus for periodically withdrawing small samples of liquid flowing through a pipe. The apparatus embodies an intake passage communicating with a T-section in the pipe. Liquid in the intake passage is pumped by a diaphragm which is pulsed pneumatically at periodic intervals. A check valve in the intake passage has one end projecting into the diaphragm chamber and is pushed positively by the diaphragm to intake port-closing position. A second passage communicating with the intake passage has a pop valve which opens under the diaphragm-created pressure after the check valve closes. Each periodic sample is collected from the latter passage in a plastic bag or other container. The apparatus can be washed and sanitized while on line by hose and coupling unit placed on the apparatus.
