  • Patent number: 7735418
Abstract: A printing unit, which is a part of a multi-color printing press, has a plurality of double printing units which are arranged vertically one above the other and consist of two printing groups forming a double print position. The printing group cylinders are mounted together in a central stand section. Inking units, which are associated with the printing groups, are mounted in outer stand sections. A distance between adjacent ones of these stand sections is adjustable. Printing and transfer cylinders of each printing group are coupled by a toothed gear wheel connection and are driven in pairs by a separate drive motor. The toothed gear wheels of all of the printing group cylinders are arranged in a common lubricant chamber which is formed by the central stand section and a cover. The inking systems have at least one separate drive motor, which is independent of the printing group cylinders.

  • Patent number: 7730263
Abstract: A prefetching technique referred to as future execution (FE) dynamically creates a prefetching thread for each active thread in a processor by simply sending a copy of all committed, register-writing instructions in a primary thread to an otherwise idle processor. On the way to the second processor, a value predictor replaces each predictable instruction with a load immediate instruction, where the immediate is the predicted result that the instruction is likely to produce during its nth next dynamic execution. Executing this modified instruction stream (i.e., the prefetching thread) in another processor allows computation of the future results of the instructions that are not directly predictable. This causes the issuance of prefetches into the shared memory hierarchy, thereby reducing the primary thread's memory access time and speeding up the primary thread's execution.

  • Patent number: 7717014
Abstract: A power tong system for precisely making up a connection between two elongated elements, such as sucker rods, into an operative string for petroleum well installations. High precision is attainable to secure the full advantages of prestressing the coupling by combinatorial use of both a rotary drive to achieve a first contact position and a linear drive to secure a precise final torsioning. The mechanism for achieving this may employ a peripherally driven drive ring coupling gears engaged to the drive ring periphery, a rotatably driven drive and a linear gear rack which are both engageable to the coupling gear.

  • Patent number: 7717269
Abstract: A snap lock separatory panel and retainer system includes either a screen wire panel with laterally spaced, longitudinally extending locking bars defining a locking profile, or a urethane panel with laterally spaced, longitudinally extending lips or flanges which also define a locking profile. A retainer system is provided for use in securing these panels. The retainer system utilized center retainers that are engagable with industry standard holes in screen stringer rails of a vibrating separating machine. Each center retainer is provided with an array of retainer pins which are spaced to interdigitate with either screen wire tie rod ends or with urethane panel wall recesses to support the screen panel locking bars or the urethane panel flanges adjacent the retainer pins. Locking strips are provided with undercurrent bores that terminate in undercut receptacles. These bores and receptacles are sized to receive center retainer pin shanks and heads.

  • Patent number: 7710595
Abstract: A method is used to identify a single panel or proof copy that has a printed image of defective quality on printed material that includes several such panels or proof copies. An image of at least part of the printed material is captured photographically. Data, that correlates with the captured image, is analyzed to determine if a defect exists which reduces the quality of the printed image on the printed material. Information with respect to the specific location of the proof copy which contains the defect is determined by comparing the data which correlates with the captured image, to an electronically generated data record which includes information, with respect to the arrangement, form or size of the individual panel that is located on the printed material. An image processing system may perform the comparison of the data record for the form of the individual panel or proof copy on the printed material.

  • Patent number: 7707917
Abstract: A web is fed into a sheet severer prior to its entry into a subsequent processing stage. The sheets, which have been severed from the web are then cut into required product sections in a cross-cutter which is associated with this subsequent processing stage. In order to achieve an accurately registered severing process, using the sheet severer, it is triggered by a signal which represents the phase position of the cross-cutter. The sheet severer is thus phase-correlated in relation to the phase position of the cross-cutter.

  • Patent number: 7703393
Abstract: Actuators are used to adjust a contact pressure exerted by a roller on an adjacent rotating body in a roller strip, or for arranging the roller on the rotating body or for separating the roller from the adjacent rotating body. The roller has ends that are mounted in a roller lock which includes several of these actuators. The actuators are supplied with a fluid under pressure, with a pressure level that can be controlled. The actuators, and preferably also the roller lock, have an identification characteristic such that for a selected roller lock, the contact pressure of a control unit, which can be actuated remotely, and which is exerted by the roller on the adjacent rotating body, can be adjusted by the actuators in response to the pressure level supplied to these actuators.

  • Patent number: 7687950
Abstract: A downhole source of electrical power for drilling tools is driven by the rotation of a drillstring or, if the drillstring is not rotating, by the rotation of a drilling sub. The source consists of an alternator having a rotor made up of a series of coils that are mounted on, and spaced around the circumference of, a rotating drilling sub, and a stator made up of a multiplicity of permanent magnets also spaced around the circumference of the drilling sub. The stator is mounted on the drilling sub by means of bearings and incorporates a counterweight that holds the rotor relatively stationary with respect to the sub and with respect to the coils, so that rotation of the sub, either by rotation of the drillstring or by rotation of a drill motor in the drilling sub, produces relative rotation of the rotor and stator to generate an AC electrical output.

  • Patent number: 7682040
Abstract: An optical system is usable to form an illuminating strip on a surface of a material. The optical system includes an illuminating device which contains several light sources which are located at a distance from the surface of the material. The illuminating device uses its light sources to generate the illuminating strip on the surface of the material, which is displaced in relation to the device. The illuminating device includes a mirror which focuses the light emitted by the light source into the illuminating strip, a diffusion body on the light emission side facing the surface of the material. The light sources feed their light into the reflector module. That module, the diffusion body, and the mirror are configured as a single component.

  • Patent number: 7669651
Abstract: The level of petroleum accumulating from a production zone as it is pumped from a lower elevation in a wellbore is remotely monitored by using the energy of a sucker rod driven pump. One or more sensors are interposed between sections of the sucker rod between the production zone and the pump level. The sensors include trigger mechanisms moving with the sucker rod string within spring loaded and slidable pistons. Over a short span the reciprocating triggers engage deformable sleeve actuators which slide and spring load the pistons. When the triggers pass through the sleeve actuators, they release the piston which impacts against a pressure wave or sonic signal generator. The impacted elements transmit a signal up to the wellhead indicative of the presence or absence of petroleum at that elevation. One or two sensors, and optionally other inputs as well, can be used in adjusting the pumping rate to maximize production.
