  • Patent number: 5924383
Abstract: A threshold for a covered cat litter box having a side entry comprises a stand supporting an elevated cat landing field. A ramp having a rough litter-dislodging surface extends downwardly from the cat landing field. A barrier is provided for barring cats from jumping onto or off the sides of said ramp. Upon setting the threshold with the ramp accessible to the litter box entry cats may ingress and egress the liter box only via the threshold rough, liter dislodging ramp and landing field which dislodges litter from the paws.

  • Patent number: 5921710
Abstract: The revetment mat comprises at least two webs joined together at aligned perimeter edges. Each web comprises a plurality of (a) interior blocks disposed side-by-side in rows and (b) a plurality of edge blocks defining a pair of perimeter edge rows of the web. The interior and edge blocks are interlinked together by threading a revetment cable through tunnels defined in the blocks. Each of the edge blocks defines a recess in one end thereof and further defines a pair of coaxial bores which extend from a first side to an interior face in the recess and from an opposing face in the recess to a second side of the edge block. An elongated rod is received in the bores and thereby extends across a gap in the recess between the opposing interior faces. A plurality of couplers are used to join a first web to a second web, which webs are positioned side-by-side. Each coupler is disposed within one of the recesses.

  • Patent number: 5919003
Abstract: A pipeline recovery system (10) is disclosed having a recovery vessel (11) with an upper deck (12) and a pivotal pipeline ramp (13) mounted to the bow of the vessel. The system also includes a pipeline support bed (22) having a middle portion (23), two grated portions (24) straddling the middle portion, and a liquid collection trough (25) coupled to a seawater contaminate separator (26). A pipeline positioning winch (30) is mounted to a rearward end of the pipeline support bed. A length of a pipeline (P) is lifted from the seabed and onto the support bed where it is secured by a pair of clamping arms (40) and a vertical clamp (41), and cut with a pipe shear (42).

  • Patent number: 5913666
Abstract: An apparatus and method for securing a firearm from firing by engaging a security lock to a slide at a butt end of the firearm. The security lock has a housing defined by a pair of sidewalls joined by a top plate that defines a slot for receiving a sight on the slide. A controller extends through a rear plate of the housing. A security member is operatively engaged to the controller for being moved between a first position for installing and removing the housing from the slide of the handgun and a second position in which the security member operatively secures the housing to the slide by being disposed between the rear portion of the slide and the handle of the firearm, thereby holding the slide in a partially rearward position with the firearm out-of-battery and the trigger mechanism of the firearm disengaged from the firing pin mechanism. A method of locking firearms is disclosed. The method discloses using a universal key for the lock.

  • Patent number: 5908788
Abstract: A method of monitoring compliance of a patient that has been placed on a medication maintenance program with a prescribed medication dosage by determining a normalized urine methadone concentration. An unadulterated urine sample is obtained from the patient. The urine methadone concentration and urine specific gravity are measured. The normalized urine medication concentration is calculated as a function of the measured medication concentration in the urine and the urine specific gravity. The calculated normalized urine medication concentration is compared with an expected medication concentration value for the patient for the maintenance program prescribed to determine any significant differences therebetween as an indication of noncompliance. Alternatively, a urinary-parameter normalized urine medication concentration is calculated as a function of the measured medication concentration in the urine, the urine specific gravity and at least one selected pharmacokinetic parameter of the medication.

  • Patent number: 5894975
Abstract: A system of selectable carriers for receiving an interchangeable liner enclosing a plurality of articles for facilitating exchange of articles from one selected carrier to another. The system provides a plurality of carriers which each have at least an opening with a first connecting member having a first character and attached near the opening thereof. The carriers selectively engage a liner that has a closed bottom and an open end with a second connecting member having a second character attached to a perimeter edge thereof, for selective mating engagement of the liner with the first connecting member in the carrier, for joining the liner to the carrier. The liner receives a plurality of articles to be carried within the carrier, and transfer of which occurs substantially simultaneously by transferring the liner and the articles therein from one carrier to another selected one of the carriers.

  • Patent number: 5884928
Abstract: A wheelchair having a chassis formed of flat plate which is folded to define a lower chassis, a chassis back, and an upper chassis. The lower and the upper chassis each have a pair of elongated substantially parallel arms that extend from respective land portions of the chassis. The arms define openings in distal portions for receiving caster wheels. Drive wheels connect to axle mounts that are selectively positioned for track, camber, and height, which axle mounts connect to the chassis back. A seat support attaches to the chassis for supporting a person in the wheelchair and includes independently adjustable height, longitudinal position relative a seat back, and angle. A pair of push handles attach to the chassis back and pivotally connect to the seat support for selective positioning of the angle of the back.
