Abstract: A surgical smoke evacuator synchronizing system includes a smoke evacuator system; a smoke or debris generating surgical device having a power cord with a plug for connection to a power source; and a monitoring system including a first receptacle for receiving the plug of the power cord; a cable connected to the first receptacle having a number of lines and having a second plug for connection to a power source receptacle; a current sensing loop for receiving at least one line of the cable; a detector circuit for sensing the current level in the cable; and a control device, responsive to a level of current in the cable, representing that the surgical device is operating, for enabling the smoke evacuator system and responsive to a level of current in the cable representing that the surgical device has completed operating for disabling the smoke evacuator system.
Abstract: An integrated liquid crystal acoustic transducer includes a substrate chip having a through hole; a movable plate electrode; means for resiliently mounting the movable plate electrode across the hole in the substrate chip; a perforated electrode spaced from the movable plate electrode and mounted across the hole in the substrate chip; and a liquid crystal medium, disposed between the electrodes, whose polarization vector orientation changes in response to electrical and acoustic input to reciprocally convert between electric and acoustic energy.

Abstract: A portable constructional element (4) comprising a foamed cementitious material (8) in an outer plastics covering (10), the foamed cementitious material (8) being such that it has been introduced into the outer covering (10) in a wet state and has set in the outer covering (10) such that the foamed cementitious material (8) is of a substantially uniform character throughout the constructional element, and such that the outer covering (10) forms an integral part of the portable constructional element (4).
Abstract: A film positioning system for dental X-ray procedures including a plurality of film carriers each including a film holder on one end and an attachment rod extending therefrom; and an X-ray tube aiming device including a plurality of distinct attachment rod holders for separately positioning each film carrier in the proper orientation with respect to the X-ray tube.
Abstract: A wideband, derivative-matched, continuous aperture acoustic transducer includes a first sensor area having a predetermined spatial shading and a second sensor area having a spatial shading which is the spatial derivative of the spatial shading of the first area; the first and second spatial shaded areas are superimposed and co-extensive along the sensing axis.
