Abstract: The specification discloses a crab-snaring device including a steel ring to which a bait-holder in the form of a fishhook is attached and which is adapted to have a fishing line from a fishing rod tied thereto. A plurality of snares formed by semi-stiff monofilament lines are secured to the ring at spaced points, and in tight frictional engagement and each of these lines is formed into a snare which is angular to the ring. When a crab is pulling on the bait, the person holding the pole feels the pull and pulls the ring to tighten the snares on any legs of the crab (or crabs) extending through the snares to pull the crab up.
Abstract: A load-lifting mechanism at the front of a lift truck carries an upright boom with a pair of parallel spaced-apart forwardly cantilevered boom portions rotatably supporting a horizontal pivot tube between their forward ends. A vertical pivot shaft rotatably carried by the pivot tube suspends a grapple beneath the cantilevered boom portions. The grapple includes a yoke mounting and a pair of grapple arms opened and closed by single or dual hydraulic cylinders. A mechanical link interconnects the grapple arms so that they open and close together and to the same extent. A pair of fluid cylinders on the cantilever boom portions pivot the pivot tube to swing the shaft and grapple fore and aft. A rotation mechanism between the cantilever boom portions and their cylinders rotates the pivot shaft and connected grapple about the axis of the shaft.
Abstract: The specification discloses a perpetual monthly calendar in which numbered belts are adjustable to bring the numbers of a year to a year window, a month belt is adjustable to bring the month (with the number of days therein) to a month window, a day belt having six horizontal rows of numbers adjustable to bring the appropriate monthly calendar to a day window with the first of the month under the day of the week on which the month of a row of the days of the week is above the day window and exposing consecutive day numbers of that month in the day window. A sixth row pointer is adjustably positioned just beyond the last day of the month exposed when next day is in the sixth row. A fifth row pointer is adjustably positioned beyond the last day of the month exposed when the next day is in the fifth row.
Abstract: A coupler for removably coupling a tool attachment at an end of a supporting arm of a powered digging or material-moving machine. The coupler includes a latch which permits quick interchanging of tool attachments on the arm. One embodiment provides a means for remotely disengaging the latch so that a machine operator may interchange tool attachments without having to dismount the machine to manually assist interchanging of attachments.
Abstract: The specification discloses a fireplace stove in which heat exchange tubes slope upwardly from a sloping rear wall to a sloping front wall of a polygonal body and are open at each end. A door is openable and/or removable from the body to form a fireplace. A door frame has a thermostat controlled damper at its top and outlets to the fire area near in the lower, side portions thereof. A baffle is spaced below the flue outlet and is aligned with the flue outlet.
Abstract: A rotary valve for selectively inserting and removing a slide loop from the sound path of a musical instrument is disclosed. The valve includes a rotor having two sound passages extending therethrough, one of the passages being straight and the other being only slightly curved. These passages align axially with the instrument's lead pipe, main bore, and slide loop ends so that a minimum of undesired harmonics are added to the tone of the instrument due to presence of the valve in the sound path.
Abstract: A transport vehicle particularly useful for industrial uses and adapted to pick up, carry and subsequently dump a load-carrying receptacle comprising a U-shaped wheel-carried outer frame towed by a tractor which supports an inner U-shaped frame for picking up the receptacle. Vertical rear hoist cylinders elevate the inner U-shaped frame and rotate it about retracted dump cylinders to raise the inner U-shaped frame from an initial horizontal ground-level position to a forwardly tilted travel position. The dump cylinders can then tilt the inner frame about a pivot axis at its rear end to empty cargo from the receptacle. Latching and restraining mechanisms are provided to prevent the receptacle from tipping backward and sliding rearwardly with respect to the inner frame when dumping its load. The latching and restraining mechanisms are gravity-controlled and become inoperative when the inner frame resumes its forwardly tilted travel position.
Abstract: A track shoe is described having a shoe upper and sole made on a straight last, whose last axis bisects the heel and passes through the second metatarsal head of the wearer's foot. The spike plate portion of the sole has a rear pair of spike fasteners which place the two rearmost spikes behind the heads of the overlying first and fifth metatarsal bones. The spike fasteners of such rear pair are centered along a straight line which intersects the last axis at an obtuse angle in the range of about 102.degree. to 115.degree. which is substantially the same as the angle of intersection between such axis and a line between the first and fifth metatarsal heads. A third spike fastener is located behind the head of the third metatarsal bone ahead of the line adjoining the rear pair of spike fasteners. The track shoe is provided with a shoe upper of open mesh nylon fabric.

Abstract: A precast monolithic concrete building module includes a vertical wall, a horizontal roof and a pair of roof supporting legs spaced from the wall. A plurality of ribs project outwardly from the wall and also from the lower surface of the roof. In one embodiment, generally T-shaped metal studs each have a portion cast into an associated rib and a portion providing a mounting surface for wall and ceiling covering materials. The studs project outwardly from the ribs so that wiring passageways can be placed through them without having to drill through concrete. In other embodiments, wooden studs have attached fasteners which have a portion cast into the rib to secure the stud to the rib. The wall between the studs is thin so that window and door openings can easily be made by breaking out portions of the wall. Special sealing ridges project upwardly from the roof for use in sealing pairs of adjacent modules of a building. The form for casting the module includes roof, wall and leg forming portions.
Abstract: The specification discloses concrete forms each including a plurality of rectangular panels secured edgewise together by connectors. Each connector includes a pair of half sleeves secured in a pair of grooves in the edges of the panels, and a cupped head of a connector sleeve wedges the half sleeves together to hold the panels in edgewise abutment. A nut screwed on the connector sleeve draws the cupped head into wedging engagement with the half sleeves. Tie rods extend through the connector sleeves. The panels include wood framing having plywood faces and filled with foamed plastic.
Abstract: A container suitable for receiving and transporting plants is formed from a blank of paperboard and includes front and back panels joined by side panels to provide a container of rectangular cross section. A flap attached to the back panel folds into a reinforced handle, and a top panel is folded inwardly from the front of the container. Gussets joining the top panel to the side panels are also folded inwardly for reinforcing the top panel.
Abstract: A fisherman's pliers combines in a single tool the gripping, holding, compressing and flattening features of a needlenose or similar pliers with a hole punch and with both straight edge and half-moon metal cutters, whereby hollow and solid so-called "pencil lead" sinker material can be prepared efficiently while fishing for attachment as a sinker to a fishing line.
Abstract: In an automatic sawmill, a caliper device measures the diameter of an incoming log and the log is then positioned against a pair of backstands over a log receiving carriage. A plurality of cutting devices are positioned relative to the carriage, and the speed control for the carriage is predetermined, in response to the log diameter. The diameter measurement is supplied to data processing circuitry which provides outputs indicative of "sets" to be taken by the aforementioned backstands and cutting devices for sawing the log into a number of cants, boards, or slabs in a manner making optimum use of the log content.
