Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and computer program product for creating a buffer point-in-time copy relationship for a point-in-time copy function executed to create a point-in-time copy relationship. A point-in-time copy function is initiated to create a new point-in-time copy relationship from a source volume comprising a first volume to a target volume comprising a second volume. Detection is made that the target volume of the new point-in-time copy relationship is a source volume of a first pre-existing point-in-time copy relationship having as a target volume a third volume. Detection is also made that the target volume of the first pre-existing point-in-time copy relationship is a source volume of a second pre-existing point-in-time copy relationship having as a target volume a fourth volume.

Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, method, and system for migration of metadata and storage management of data in a first storage environment to a second storage environment. A migration request is processed to migrate metadata and storage management of data in a first storage environment to a second storage environment, wherein the first storage environment has a first storage server, a first storage media, and first metadata describing first data objects stored in the first storage media, and wherein the second storage environment has a second storage server, a second storage media, and second metadata for second data objects stored in the second storage media. The first metadata is copied to the second storage environment to incorporate with the second metadata. The first metadata incorporated into the second metadata is modified to indicate first server information used by the second server to communicate with the first server to access the migrated data from the first storage media.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and program for processing anchor text for information retrieval. A set of anchors that point to a target document is formed. Anchors with same anchor text are grouped together. Information is computed for each group. Context information is generated for the target document based on the computed information.

Abstract: A highly convenient radio frequency integrated circuit that can be used at a plurality of different frequency bands, and which can perform communications at the different frequency bands so that data at different frequency bands can be read and a restriction can be imposed on the reading and writing of information. An IC module in a radio frequency integrated circuit includes a plurality of memories; a read-write unit for performing a process of reading data from, and writing data into, the memories; and a selector for receiving an electric signal outputted from an antenna that has received a radio signal.

Abstract: The invention relates to inorganic intermetallic compounds having a PMR effect (combined GMR/CMR effect), which are characterized in that they contain at least two elements per formula unit and have a field sensitivity of less than 10% per 0.1 T at temperatures greater than 290 K. The invention also relates to composites consisting of these compounds, to a method for the production thereof and to their use, in particular, as magnetic field sensors or in the domain of spin electronics.

At least one unencrypted Input/Output (I/O) request function coded in the application indicating an I/O operation to perform against the unencrypted blocks in the memory device is executed. At least one encrypted I/O request function coded in the application indicating an I/O operation to perform against the encrypted blocks in the memory device is executed.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for applying a policy criteria to files in a backup image. A backup image of files in a file system is maintained. A policy is applied to the files in the backup image to determine files satisfying a policy criteria. A list is prepared indicating the determined files. The determined files in the file system are accessed and a deferred operation indicated in the applied policy is applied to the accessed files in the file system.

Abstract: A bus emulation device in accordance with one aspect of the present description includes an embedded microcontroller and a nonvolatile memory carried on a body. The memory contains firmware which includes boot code adapted to boot the microcontroller to operate in one of a plurality of dedicated operating modes in response to a mode switch. These dedicated operating modes include a learning mode in which bus signals generated by other bus devices are recorded in the nonvolatile memory, and an emulation mode in which recorded bus signals are retransmitted over the bus in response to received signals, to emulate a bus device. Abstract: Provided are techniques for status information saving among multiple computers. In one embodiment, a selected computer is operated using a plurality of input/output devices over switched input/output signal paths passing through a KVM (keyboard video mouse) switch positioned between the selected computer and the plurality of input/output devices. Status data is carried over signal paths passing through the KVM switch wherein the status data represents status information for a plurality of computers connected to the KVM switch. The status data passing through the KVM switch is stored in a memory coupled to the KVM switch. Other embodiments are described and claimed. Other embodiments are contemplated, depending upon the particular application.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a tape movement constraint for a tape drive system, comprises a tiltable tape roller bearing having a roller barrel biased in a first position on a pivot axis, using magnetic attraction between a movable magnet and a return path structure of magnetically permeable material. The roller barrel is pivoted on the pivot axis by conducting current through a fixed coil to generate a magnetic field which is conducted by the return path structure to interact with the magnetic field of the magnet. At least a portion of any air bearing between the moving tape and the barrel surface is quenched using grooves formed in the barrel surface. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

An operating system and a backup copy of the operating system are both maintained in a partition of a computational device. A boot loader receives an indication to load the backup copy of the operating system. The boot loader loads the backup copy of the operating system. The computational device is rebooted with the loaded backup copy of the operating system.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for searching documents for ranges of numeric values. Document identifiers for documents are accessed, wherein the documents include at least one value that is a member of a set of values. A number of posting lists are generated. Each posting list is associated with a range of consecutive values within the set of values and includes document identifiers for documents including at least one value within the range of consecutive values associated with the posting list, and wherein each document identifier is associated with one value in the set of values included in the document identified by the document identifier. The generated posting lists are stored, wherein the posting lists are used to process a query on a range of values within the set of values.

Abstract: A periodic rotational vibration check for storage devices to compensate for varying loads is disclosed. A variable representing rotational vibration status is maintained in a rotational vibration log. The variable is processed to determine whether a storage device exhibits a rotational vibration issue. Workload analysis is performed to identify a change to the workloads run on physically separate hardware to resolve the rotational vibration issue and thus eliminate the need for more expensive hardware.

Abstract: Methods are provided for performing depth-first searches of concrete models of systems using control flow information of the system for improved reachability analysis. The concrete model's control structure and dependencies are extracted and an over-approximated (conservative) abstract control model is created. The abstract control model simulates the concrete model during model checking. Model checking the abstract control model produces execution traces based on the control paths of the concrete model. These execution traces may be used to guide a state space search on the concrete model during invariant checking to determine satisability of one or more selected invariants of the system.

Abstract: A pass-through mechanism that couples a first linear tape library string to a second linear tape library string is maintained. A first robotic assembly associated with the first linear tape library string places a tape from the first linear tape library string into the pass-through mechanism. The pass-through mechanism moves the tape to a position where the tape can be removed by a second robotic assembly associated with the second linear tape library string. The second robotic assembly removes the tape from the pass-through mechanism and places the tape into the second linear tape library string.

Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for supporting non-delivery notification between a switch and device in a network. A login with a switch is initiated including a test service parameter requesting a non-delivery notification service to cause the switch to return a non-delivery notification in response to a test path request indicating a destination node that is unavailable. Indication is made that the test service is available for the login in response to receiving a reply from the switch that the switch accepts the login with the non-delivery notification service. The test path request is sent to the switch to determine whether the destination node is available in response to determining that the non-delivery notification service is available for the switch login. The non-delivery notification is received from the switch in response to the switch determining that the destination node to which the test path request is directed is unavailable.

Abstract: Systems and methods access non-compatible content repositories that are not natively accessible to a content management system. A metadata registry maintains metadata about content stored in both compatible and non-compatible repositories. For content in a non-compatible repository, the metadata indicates a repository interface capable of accessing the non-compatible repository. The content manager communicates with the repository interfaces to access the content in non-compatible repositories. The content manager may receive a request for content in a non-compatible repository, refer to the metadata registry to select a repository interface to employ, transmit a request for the requested content to the selected repository interface, and receive the requested content from the repository interface. A repository interface registry maintains information about available repository interfaces.

Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and article of manufacture for creating playback definitions indicating segments of media content from multiple content files to render. User input is received indicating a plurality of segments of media content from a plurality of media files and an ordering of the segments. The media content comprises at least one of audio and video content. A playback definition is generated in a computer readable medium indicating the plurality of segments in the user input and the ordering of the segments. The playback definition is processed to render the media content of the indicated segments in the indicated ordering.

Abstract: A host reserves a device controlled by a controller that is coupled to the host. The controller starts a first timer, in response to a completion of input/output (I/O) operations on the device by the host, wherein the host continues to reserve the device after the completion of the I/O operations. The controller sends a notification to the host after an expiry of the first timer, wherein the notification requests the host to determine whether the device should continue to be reserved by the host. The controller starts a second timer, in response to receiving an acknowledgement from the host that the notification has been received by the host, wherein reservation status of the device reserved by the host is determined by the controller on or prior to an expiry of the second timer.

Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for database driver for the global, dynamic, remote and centralized configuration of database drivers. In an embodiment of the invention the system includes a remote controller host and a central controller disposed in the remote controller host. A plurality of application hosts and a plurality of applications are disposed in each of the application hosts. A single attachment agent is disposed in each of the application hosts, the single attachment agent being coupled to each of the plurality of applications in the application hosts. The central controller provides each of the attachment agents with information regarding how to connect the database driver to the central controller.
