  • Patent number: 5197518
Abstract: The centering support assembly features a half moon shaped support base with two upright stanchions at opposite sides of the base, providing proper spacing between the base support and a crosshead clamping piece. The entire assembly is bolted together by bolts received through the crosshead and each stanchion, which is threadedly received in the base. One or more inner or primary pipes may be supported between the stanchions, which permit proper deflection of the pipes relative to each other and lateral deflection, if necessary, and similarly, relative to the outer containment pipe. The cross-piece and half moon base portion of the centering support assembly fit within the inner diameter of the outer containment pipe, with the crosshead piece spaced from the inner diameter to permit deflection of the outer pipe relative to the primary pipe or pipes under load.

  • Patent number: 5196109
Abstract: An improved aqueous acidic trivalent chromium electrolyte and process for increasing the tolerance thereof to the presence of deleterious contaminating metal ions and organic impurities which normally progressively increase during commercial operation of the electrolyte ultimately resulting in chromium electrodeposits which are commercially unsatisfactory due to the presence of streaks, clouds, and hazes in the deposit. The improved composition contains an effective amount of at least one EDTA compound which is effective to mask the adverse effects of such contaminating metal and organic impurities and which also enhances the codeposition of such metal contaminants on the parts being plated thereby reducing, and in some instances, preventing the accumulation of such contaminating metal ions in the electrolyte.

  • Patent number: 5195104
Abstract: An optical parametric oscillator/laser system includes an optical pump source for generating pump radiation and an embedded dual optical resonator containing an optical parametric oscillator/laser crystal. The embedded dual optical resonator includes a laser resonator and an optical parametric oscillator resonator. The OPOL crystal is an optical parametric oscillator material doped with ions that exhibit lasing transitions. The pump radiation stimulates generation of laser radiation. When the laser radiation reaches the parametric threshold, optical parametric radiation is generated. In one embodiment, the laser resonator and the OPOL resonator are each defined by spaced-apart mirrors. In another embodiment, the OPOL system includes an OPOL rod having end caps at each end. Each end cap includes surfaces for internally reflecting the laser radiation and the parametric optical radiation in a closed loop path so that the OPOL rod and the end caps define an optical resonator.

  • Patent number: 5170833
Abstract: A rolling door assembly including a flexible curtain having an inner end, an outer end and side edges. The inner end of this curtain is mounted to a rotatable curtain roll. The assembly includes a sprocket mounted on the curtain roll and a continuous chain loop that extends around this sprocket and is connected to a motor drive to form a curtain winding and unwinding mechanism. Two drive loop members are in operable engagement with the curtain roll for purposes of loop travel during rotation of the roll. The bottom end of the curtain is secured to the two drive members so that the bottom end and the drive loop members travel together. There are also two adjusting mechanisms connected between the bottom end of the curtain and the two loop members to accommodate a difference in speed of travel between the loop members and the bottom end of the curtain, the latter moving at a variable speed as the curtain is wound or unwound.

  • Patent number: 5160060
Abstract: A refuse container has a lid and a pair of handles, and each handle is mounted to pivot between a closed position for holding the lid on the container and an open position for removing the lid from the container. Each handle has two legs spaced apart from each other, and a locking bar is coupled between the two legs and permitted to slide along the legs between a locked position for locking the handle in the closed position to prevent access into the container, and an unlocked position for opening the handle to remove the lid. The locking bar is received within a U-shaped clamp in the locked position to retain the locking bar in the locked position. In another embodiment, the locking bar is received within a recess for retaining the locking bar in the locked position. A U-shaped handle is coupled to the locking bar to move the locking bar between the locked and unlocked positions.

  • Patent number: 5157257
Abstract: A DIAL LIDAR system, and methods of operating same are disclosed. A plurality, such as six, distinct coherent beams are combined into a single transmitted beam. Atmospheric targets such as light hydrocarbons cause a portion of the transmitted beam to be reflected as a return. In one transmitting configuration, six pulsed beams are fully time-multiplexed, and are combined through selective polarization. In another transmitting configuration, six pulsed beams are fully time-multiplexed, and are combined through selective orientation of beam paths, in connection with a rotating beam displacer. In yet another transmitting configuration, six beams are wavelength-multiplexed, and are combined through differential refraction. In one receiving configuration, time-multiplexed beams are received using a single detector. In another receiving configuration, wavelength-multiplexed beams are received using multiple detectors.

  • Patent number: 5141239
Abstract: An improved scroll chuck for holding a workpiece in a lathe including a jaw holder having a front side and a rear side, radially extending slots in the front side and means for attaching the holder to the lathe for turning about a central axis. Two or more jaw devices are mounted in the slots and are radially movable therein. A scroll member is rotatably mounted on the holder and has a spiral-shaped rib formed on a front surface thereof. This rib extends along recesses formed on the jaw devices whereby rotation of the scroll member causes the jaw devices to move in the radial direction. A pin member is arranged on one of the jaw devices and extends from a rearwardly facing surface of the device and into an elongate recess formed in the holder. This pin member prevents the jaw device from accidentally disengaging from the holder.
