  • Patent number: 6386013
Abstract: A container end is provided with a suitable stock thickness for necessary strength and pressure resistance over its selected areas of its central portion while employing a substantially thinner peripheral wall. A method of forming thins the peripheral wall by drawing and ironing in a single workstation using compound die that also shears the blank from sheet stock. Optionally, multi-layers or laminates form the central portion of a lid, with a reduced number of layers forming the peripheral wall. Alternatively, the peripheral wall is thinned by ironing, spinning, or roll forming after the blank is formed into a shell. A forming apparatus clamps a planar peripheral wall of a blank with a clamping element that includes a thining tool. The apparatus oppositely offsets the center of the blank from the peripheral wall to draw the peripheral wall over the thinning tool on the clamping element.

  • Patent number: 6210446
Abstract: Carpet masking film is reliably and removably applied to used carpet of unknown condition. In a pretreatment, the carpet is cleaned by physical separation of visible debris, followed by chemical or solvent cleaning of grease and soluble factors, restoring the carpet to a clean appearance. A primer layer is applied over the clean carpet fiber in quantity sufficient to establish a barrier and separation layer on top of the carpet fiber. Subsequently, a sprayed adhesive layer is applied over the primer layer. A carpet masking film is applied over the surface of the sprayed adhesive. The masking film may carry its own adhesive layer, which is applied to the sprayed adhesive to create a bonded sandwich structure that is removable as a unit with the masking film.

  • Patent number: 6045578
Abstract: Paraxial rays and marginal rays entering the eye do not share a common point of focus in emmetropes, adults usually having a slightly positive spherical aberration. There is provided a method of treatment and prevention of myopia by inducing positive spherical aberration in the myopic eye. The cornea 30 of a myopic eye 31 is fitted with a lens 32 having its outer surface 34 formed having increasing dioptric power away from the axis 35 of the lens and cornea 30. Paraxial light rays 36 entering the central portion 37 of the lens 32 are focused on the retina 40 of the eye 31, producing a clear image of an object. Marginal light rays 41 entering the peripheral portion 42 of the cornea 30 are focused in a plane between the cornea 30 and the retina 40, and produce positive spherical aberration of the image on the latter. This positive spherical aberration produces a physiological effect on the eye which tends to inhibit growth of the eye, thus mitigating the tendency for the myopic eye to grow longer.

  • Patent number: 5876990
Abstract: A first media provides an oxygen inducer such as catalase, bound and stabilized in pellet form so as to dissipate slowly into aqueous surroundings. A second media provides an oxygen supplier such as a peroxide, stabilized by combination with a proteinaceous compound such as urea and bound in a matrix that limits oxygen release. The two media are combined in aqueous environment to generate nascent oxygen at a modulated rate such that the oxygen is efficiently absorbed into the surrounding aqueous environment, promoting growth of aerobic species and reducing biological pollution. Specific adaptations demonstrate benefits of use in shrimp or fish ponds, raw milk, fruit juice, fresh food, silage and animal feed, fertilizer, plumbing systems, and grease traps. When used in ponds, further adaptations reduce algae and phytoplankton populations.
