  • Patent number: 4245579
Abstract: Pressurized fluid circuits are provided which are suitable for use in a pressure drop detector for a pressurized fluid fire alarm system. The pressurized fluid circuits are provided as channels in the surface of a block of material and include one channel connected to a source of fluid pressure. The channels are associated with valve regions by means of which, with a diaphragm pressed thereagainst, a required one or more of the channels can be closed off.In its application to a pressure drop detector a normally pressurized region of the diaphragm may support a mechanical linkage of the detector such that if the pressure drops, on release of pressure in the system, the collapsing of the diaphragm allows the mechanical linkage to be released thus actuating a fire alarm.

  • Patent number: 4219363
Abstract: A process for the preparation of Portland cement clinker resides in that limey, clayey and iron-containing components are ground together. The mix is then homogeneized pelletized, decarbonized at 800.degree. to 1000.degree. C. and roasted at 1200.degree. to 1350.degree. C. Dust sublimates--wastes of the titanium production--are added at the stage of grinding or homogeneization in an amount of 0.5 to 6.0% by total weight of raw mix, and, in case the dust sublimates are added at the homogeneization stage, an aqueous suspension of cakes--wastes of the titanium and magnesium production--is added at the pelletizing stage, at a volumetric ratio of water to cakes of 3-6:1, and in an amount of 10 to 14% by total weight of raw mix.The process according to the invention enables the preparation of clinker exhibiting an improved strength. With the process according to the invention, the degree of decarbonization of raw mix is as high as 35-50%, and roasting temperature is 120.degree.-150.degree. C. lower.

  • Patent number: 4217311
Abstract: Vinyl chloride is prepared by gas-phase chlorination of a gaseous mixture containing 5 to 50 vol. % of ethane and 50 to 95 vol. % of ethylene. The amount of chlorine supplied into the reaction zone is determined by the formula: number of chlorine moles=3m+ 0.3n, wherein m is the number of moles of ethane and n is the number of moles of ethylene. Chlorine is supplied into at 4 to 6 points of the reaction zone. The method of the present invention makes it possible to increase the yield of vinyl chloride up to 70% by weight, while reducing power consumption for the process 1.5 times as compared to the prior art methods.

  • Patent number: 4212830
Abstract: The specification discloses a novel process for the preparation of 11-tetradecenal and novel intermediates therefor. There is also disclosed processes for the intermediates. The novel intermediates include 1,1-dialkoxy-9-halo-nonane and 1,1-dialkoxy-11-tetradecene. There is further disclosed a process for preparing a mixture of cis- and trans-11-tetradecenal at the molecular ratio of approximately 1-cis-form to 9 trans-form, by reacting a Grignard reagent of 1,1-dialkoxy-9-halo-nonane with a mixture (approximately 60:40) of 1-chloro-2-pentene and 3-chloro-1-pentene and thereafter hydrolyzing thus formed 1,1-dialkoxy-11-tetradecene. 11-Tetradecenal is useful as a sex pheromone against the female eastern spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana). The 9:1 ratio of trans/cis isomers is believed to be the most effective ratio to use against the budworms.

  • Patent number: 4212949
Abstract: An apparatus for cultivating microorganisms on a granular medium comprises a vertical cylindrical vessel with a top port for charging the seeded granular medium and a bottom port for discharging the culture. The vessel is separated, heightwise, into sections by horizontal partitions, each section being provided with a tube for letting in an aerating flow of air and a tube for letting out the flow with metabolites. Each partition is composite and made up of partially overlapping circular sectors with perforation in the form of slots. The sectors are provided with a means for shifting them so that when the medium is being charged into a section, all sectors form a solid plate, while, during discharge of the culture from the section, the sectors are shifted so that a free downward passage for the culture is provided. The sector shifting means is located under the partition, relative to the medium, and provides for shifting of the sectors in a horizontal plane.
