  • Patent number: 4980097
Abstract: A carburetor of the slide and metering rod type is characterized by the provision of a device for obstructing reverse or backflow air from the outlet end of the carburetor body from passing the metering rod in order to prevent the backflow air from contaminating or from drawing excess fuel into the air/fuel mixture. The obstruction device may comprise either a flanged tubular collar arranged within the outlet end or a tapered surface of an insert arranged adjacent the carburetor throttle slide member. Alternatively, the body may comprise a plurality of rearwardly and inwardly extending recesses near the outlet end thereof for preventing the flow of contaminated backflow air past the metering rod. Openings may be provided in the obstruction devices for reverting the backflow air into the flow of the air/fuel mixture rearwardly of the metering rod and toward the outlet end of the carburetor.

  • Patent number: 4977969
Abstract: An electronic weighing apparatus is provided, including a self-contained calibration weight module that is operated by a motor to alternately connect and disconnect, respectively, a calibration weight relative to the vertically-displaceable parallelogram-guided load receiving member of the scale. The calibration weight is normally suspended in an inoperable condition by means of a pair of internally threaded sleeves rotatably supported in the cover portion of the housing of the calibration weight module. A motor is operable to rotate the sleeves and thereby lower lifting screws threadably connected therewith, whereby the calibration weight is lowered toward a supported position between and in engagement with a pair of parallel carrier arms that extend horizontally from the load receiver.

  • Patent number: 4974457
Abstract: The apparatus for providing a passage in a sealing member, in particular a stopper of a container of a fluid sample, by using a penetrating sleeve defining the passage, comprises a displaceable sticking tool. The latter comprises a spike with a pointed end. During operation the spike is inserted into the sleeve and brought into a position in which its pointed end protrudes through the front end of the sleeve. The spike together with the sleeve are then stuck through the sealing member. Subsequently, the spike is pulled out of the sleeve, while the sleeve is left inside the sealing member. In this way, the sleeve may be inserted into the sealing member along a predetermined path, while any cutting or shearing of particles off the sealing member may be avoided.

  • Patent number: 4968272
Abstract: A protective conductor connector for an electrical terminal having a housing mounted on the leg portion of a support rail is characterized by a slider provided between the terminal clamping screw and the rail. The slider is arranged within a terminal carrier and includes a clamping surface arranged beneath the clamping screw and a toothed clamped zone arranged above the rail leg portion. The slider also includes inclined guide surfaces which are guided by projections of the terminal housing during clamping movement of the slider. When the clamping screw is operated, the slider is displaced vertically and horizontally to clamp the conductor against the slider clamping surface and to scratch through a corrosion protective coating on the rail leg portion, thereby providing a reliable electrical connection between the conductor and the rail regardless of the diameter of the conductor.

  • Patent number: 4964415
Abstract: Therapeutic deep heating of musculoskeletal tissues is accomplished with an improved transducer that serves simultaneously to couple the power from the generator into the patient and to sense the therapeutic response for treatment control including a method of manufacture and testing of contact applicators for dielectric heating of musculoskeletal tissue. The applicator has a rectangular waveguide in which dielectric material is placed to reduce the guide wave length to the free space value at the frequency of operation. The noninvasive detection of therapeutic response in muscle tissue to dielectric heating is then used to control the treatment. Both heating and sensing are accomplished by one transducer and one apparatus if dielectric heating is employed. If other forms of heating are used, such as ultrasound, the sensor still occurs but the apparatus must be modified, the modifications including replacement of the high power electromagnetic source with a low power source version.

Abstract: A pollution control system for capturing and incinerating the emissions to the atmosphere which arise when incandescent coke is pushed from a coke oven, includes a hood for capturing the emissions and a stack mounted on top of the hood for incinerating the emissions and in which a natural draft is produced for pulling the emissions into the hood. The hood is mounted on a railroad car which may be self-propelled or towed by a locomotive. The stack has a combustion system for producing heat therein, a damper for regulating the draft and a venturi section for mixing the particulates with the gasses. The mounting of the hood incorporates a power-operator for moving the hood into or away from contact with the coke guide of the coke ovens.

  • Patent number: 4957501
Abstract: The filter is particularly for implantation in the interior vena cava by sliding through a small sized catheter of type 7F, so as to arrest the migration of all thrombi of dangerous size. The filter comprises a flexible wire having been subjected to a primitive predeformation into first and second substantially flat superposed loops. The loops are substantially symmetrical respectively with regard to two axes which are substantially orthogonal and convergent at a center of the filter. These loops can be elliptic and inscribed in a square, thus providing four contact points with the venous wall, which are in two-to-two symmetry with regard to the center on the longitudinal axis of the vein, which gives the filter high stability in the vein.

  • Patent number: 4948220
Abstract: In a box having an openable front face, plural fiber loop supports substantially flat and movable can be laid out parallel with the front face of the box. Connector bars are respectively attached to the supports and are used for two by two connecting the optical fibers. Slides on sliding rails attached in the box enable the supports to be translated together substantially perpendicular to the front face and completely outside the box. A support-bearing rod is rotatively mounted between the slides so as to turn the supports together outside the box and around an axis of rotation substantially parallel with the front face. The inside of the box is then accessible. Each of the supports can pivot around an axis perpendicular to the support so as to be cleared away from the other supports.

  • Patent number: 4945862
Abstract: An improved two-dimensional shuttle rotary cleaning device includes a frame with which is connected a bracket adapted for pivotal movement between first and second positions normal and parallel to the frame, respectively. A cleaning assembly is slidably connected with the bracket for cleaning the exterior surfaces of pendant tubes of a boiler. The cleaning assembly includes a tubular lance and a rotary union connecting the lance with the bracket and rotating the lance about its axis. An air cylinder is connected with the cleaning assembly for reciprocating the assembly relative to the bracket along the axis of the lance. Pressurized cleaning fluid is supplied to the lance via the rotary union. The fluid exits the lance via the plurality of radial openings, whereby the cleaning fluid is directed under pressure against the surfaces of the pendant tubes to remove slag and other built up materials therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4941279
Abstract: A fishing lure has a buoyant body with a weight connected with the bottom thereof to properly orient the lure in an upright position when it is cast into a body of water. The lure is characterized by a rigid, bendable support arm. One end of the arm extends upwardly and rearwardly of the lure to suspend a baited hook or fly above the water surface. The other end of the arm is reversely folded below the body to define a loop with which a lower hook can be connected. Thus the lure is capable of catching fish which feed under water and fish that jump for food.
