Abstract: A method is described for forming a film of amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) on a substrate by deposition from a plasma. The substrate is placed in an enclosure, a film precursor gas is introduced into the enclosure, and unreacted and dissociated gas is extracted from the enclosure so as to provide a low pressure in the enclosure. Microwave energy is introduced into the gas within the enclosure to produce a plasma therein by distributed electron cyclotron resonance (DECR) and cause material to be deposited from the plasma on the substrate. The substrate is held during deposition at a temperature in the range 200-600° C., preferably 225-350° C. and a bias voltage is applied to the substrate at a level to give rise to a sheath potential in the range ?30 to ?105V, preferably using a source of RF power in the range of 50-250 mW/cm2 of the area of the substrate holder.

Abstract: Illuminated safety helmets are provided. The helmets include a shell having two or more lighted zones mounted therein, which are spaced from each other on the outer surface of the shell. One or more of the lighted zones can be selectively deactivated, allowing a wearer to control which zone or zones not to illuminate, as may be desirable in certain situations. Each zone, when activated, is illuminated in a variable fashion, such that the light illuminated from the zone changes within a brief period of time.

Abstract: Embodiments of system and method are provided for ranking contents of one or more documents through human assistance. The system includes one or more search engines configured to provide one or more documents based on a search query sent by a user. Further, the system includes a client application configured to capture the query sent by the user and the document tags provided by the document author or inbound links. The client application monitors one or more interactions of the user with the one or more documents for one or more events and provides a relevance measure to the one or more documents based on the captured query or tags, and the one or more events.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an alternative compact portable filtration device that can be used in remote locations and includes a single filtration cartridge that provides redundant filtration of the fluid (water). In particular, the device is a dual stage ultrafilter cartridge (apparatus) that is constructed and designed to provide a portable device that can be used in the field, such as during camping or military assignment, and offers two filtration stages (redundant filtration) within a single housing.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a perforated card includes a plurality of separable components that includes a tag suitable for the inclusion of personal data such as an address. The tag includes an opening. The card also includes a strap that is separably attached to at least a portion of the tag. The strap is insertable through the opening of the tag and is configured to be fixedly attached about a handle of a piece of luggage.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for dynamic coordination of inspectable elements across timelines. In one arrangement, timelines are processed to identify common chronological events. Such events can be associated and rendered across the timelines. In another arrangement, selectable elements are rendered in relation to a timeline. The selection of such selectable elements highlights one or more of the associated inspectable elements. In another arrangement, a selection is received at the first timeline, and, in response, events are highlighted at the second timeline and inspectable elements are rendered at the second timeline pertaining to the selection.

Abstract: A top sizer clip according to one embodiment for use with a garment hanger includes a body having a pair of side walls and end walls joined to and extending between the side walls. The body includes a top wall that is joined to upper edges of the side walls and end walls. The top wall partially encloses the body so as to create a hollow body structure that includes an interior compartment defined by the end walls, side walls, and top wall. The top wall includes an opening formed therethrough for receiving a hook member of the hanger. The opening is defined by a pair of opposing first edges and a pair of opposing second side edges that extend between the first edges. The clip also includes a pair of slots being formed along the first edges and extending toward the end walls. The second edges include a pair of interference sections (detents) where a distance between the second edges is at a minimum.

Abstract: A retail display includes a first box that includes a hollow first compartment for receiving and holding an item and a shirt that is folded and disposed within the first compartment. The display further includes a second box that is smaller than the first box and is disposed within the first compartment adjacent the folded shirt, with the second box having a base portion that includes a hollow second compartment. A neck tie is disposed within the second compartment of the second box. The neck tie includes a narrow end and an opposite broad pointed end. A transparent cover extends across and covers the first and second compartments and allows the shirt and tie to be seen by a consumer.

Abstract: External fixation devices and methods of use are provided. A device for external fixation of a joint includes a first pin block for connection to a first skeletal element and a second pin block for connection to a second skeletal element. The device includes a connection assembly that is releasably attached to at least one of the pin blocks. The device is locked in an original position when the connection assembly is attached to both of the pin blocks, and is unlocked when the connection assembly is detached from at least one of the pin blocks.

Abstract: A system for publishing a sponsor-comment together with content of a publisher that is associated with a particular file. A code segment is included in the particular file. A database relates a plurality of keywords with one or more sponsors. A registration module is operative to register one or more channels of the publisher, each said channel including at least one of the plurality of files. A communication module is operative to receive a sponsor-comment across the network. A comment management module is operative to selectively associate the sponsor-comment with the particular file in accordance with at least one criterion accessible to one or more of the servers. Upon opening each respective file in a browser of a client machine, the code segment executes to cause the browser to include in the display the sponsor-comment together with the publisher-content. Variations of systems and methods that publish sponsor comments are disclosed.

Abstract: Publishing of a message divided into two portions, one portion not requiring computer recognition of it's content while another portion requires recognition of it's content. The non-recognized portion is published as-is with minimal processing by the system due to it being suited for easy human understanding of that respective portion (e.g., hand-written text). The recognized portion is processed by optical recognition software so that the output of the recognition process is an accurate representation of that information portion. The portion requiring recognition can be a critical portion such as in the case of the price for a food item on a daily specials menu, as one non-limiting example. In further aspects, messages can be published on a time and date scheduled basis.

Abstract: A system and method, which enable precise and automatic identification of characters, perform and calibrate data verification to ensure data reliability. The system can process these identified characters, such as override adverse conditions, adjusting and correcting unclear characters and their images.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, an exercise device in the form of an adjustable resistance multi-use toning system that includes a plurality of elongated elastic bands (tension bands or cables) which can have different tension (resistance) values. Each band has a first end and an opposing second end. The device further includes a hollow sleeve that receives at least a portion of each of the elastic bands so as to at least partially envelope the elastic bands while permitting the first and second ends to be accessible. A first fastener is provided for attaching the first ends of the elastic bands to a support member, such as a piece of exercise equipment, a belt to be worn around a body part of a user; or any other structure to which the exercise device can be attached.

Abstract: Estimations of carbon dioxide (“C02”) emission of an entity upon the condition of incomplete or missing data uses one or more algorithms implemented in a machine having a processor and a memory and data concerning the entity. The data is applied to an algorithm implemented as code executable in the processor. The algorithm produces a result that comprises an estimate of the C02 emission of the entity. The C02 emission estimate can be output to a user, and the underlying formula and data can inspected and optionally modified by users with suitable permissions. The C02 emission estimate can be applied as a factor in a formula to compute a rating for the entity which can be output from the machine. Error estimates associated with the data used by the algorithm can be generated to provide improved estimates.

Abstract: A computer-implemented transaction processing system includes a card reader and a plurality of modules each comprising code that executes in the processor. The card reader transfers credit card data from a credit card of a customer to a memory of the computer. A check presentation module is operative to calculate a sales tax associated with a price of a product sold to the customer. An approval module is operative to obtain an approval against the credit card data in the memory for at least the price of the product and the sales tax and thereby define an approved sale transaction. A revenue settlement module and a tax settlement module are operative to settle respective portions of the sales transaction(s) to different accounts, such that a revenue portion goes to a first account free of any sales tax, and a sales tax portion goes to the other account.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the detection and identification of different bacterial species, all of which cause zoonosis, based on DNA analysis. More specifically, the invention provides the primers, probes, genes and genic regions required to apply a method for the simultaneous detection of bacteria and bacterial groups belonging to the genera Anaplasma, Ehrlichia, Borrelia. Bartonella, Coxiella, Rickettsia and Francisella based on Multiple PCR analysis by RLB (Reverse Line Blotting), in addition to providing a kit to carry out said analysis.
