  • Patent number: 4773600
Abstract: Apparatus for crushing chunks of trees and tree stumps comprising a solid cylinder having cutting elements extending from the surface. The housing containing the cylinder is provided along one side wall with stationary cutters extending out toward the surface of the cylinder between the columns of the cutting elements which are moving as the cylinder rotates. The space between the stationary cutters and the surface of the cylinder is adjustable in order to be able to select the size of particles being produced. A conveyer beneath the housing carries away the particles. The cutting elements are mounted in such away as to permit easy replacement in the event of a failure. Means are provided to drive said cylinder at no more than 50 RPM.

  • Patent number: 4770417
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling and operating the return ball lift mechanism in a bowling alley. In a preferred embodiment the motor which drives the lifting belt is normally inoperative and it is actuated when a ball arrives to be lifted into the storage rack. A photo detector is utilized to detect the presence of the returning ball and provision is made to actuate the motor for a total of four seconds. In the event a second ball arrives before the end of four seconds, timing begins all over again. A feature of the invention is the elimination of a centrifugally operated switch to control the START winding of the motor as a solid state timer controls the operation of both windings of the motor.

  • Patent number: 4742680
Abstract: A cylinder with one end convex, upon said end a disk with a hole in it sits upon it to act as a pivoting mounting plate; stretched nitinol wires are strung down the sides of the cylinder from the edge of the disk to the opposite end of the cylinder rim edge. Each wire is fed an independent voltage to cause length wise contraction of the wire. A computer harmonized actuation of the contractions and relaxations of the lengths of the nitinol wires causes the attitude of the disk mounting plate to change.

  • Patent number: 4727449
Abstract: A filament bypass circuit for use with a string of lamps in series capable of continuing current flow when a lamp in the string fails. Each lamp is provided with a shunt circuit consisting of a series circuit of a diode and a silicon bilateral voltage triggered switch. The switch becomes conductive upon the application of a substantial increase in voltage from the A.C. source and remains conductive until there is an interruption of current flow or current flow drops below its required holding value. The diode insures that during continued operation after a failure there will not be an excessive voltage applied to the remaining lamps, and also serves as an indicator of a failed lamp.
