Abstract: A cover for closing a top opening of a thermite reaction chamber of a crucible is substantially continuous and is secured to an annular filter lining via a bottom peripheral edge for making contact on a top peripheral edge of the crucible. The filter lining is substantially continuous and is suitable for constituting a substantially continuous contact medium between the bottom edge and top edge. The cover is applicable, for example, to thermite welding, e.g., for use in tunnels or underground.

Abstract: A method for drawing pie charts illustrating comparative data on the display of a client computer in a client-server environment with horizontal parallel lines each having a height of one pixel. A circular or elliptical pie is first defined in an array of endpoints of a set of horizontal lines from which the pie is constructed. Each slice of the pie is assigned a start angle and a stop angle as a function of the datum that it represents and its proximity to other slices. Pixels on the horizontal lines forming the pie are then tested to define segments of the horizontal lines for inclusion in the slices. The pixels of each line segment are illuminated on the display to form an image of a pie with each slice proportional in area to its respective datum.

Abstract: Apparatus for hanging curtains from wall brackets includes a hollow cylindrical rod with a longitudinal slot in its wall through which an interior clamping member for each wall bracket may be inserted. The clamping member is secured to a respective bracket by one or more screws which extend from outside of the rod to the clamping member captured within the rod. C-shaped rings mounted on the rod have openings to allow passage of the rings along the rod without coming into contact with the brackets. Each ring has a downward extending projection, e.g., a tab, which can be apertured to receive a hook, clip or other fastener attached to the curtains.

Abstract: A device for introducing a catheter into a body site through the skin by means of an security non-piercing cage includes a steel spring flexible blade which is disposed in the cross section of the chamber of the nonpiercing cage near the proximal input thereof perpendicularly to a needle and is penetrable by the needle. The blade and the needle are adapted to interact in such a way that the blade is in a resting position and freely transversable by the needle when the needle is pushed in a distal direction, and the blade stops the needle and is flexed thereby when the needle is pulled in a proximal direction beyond a determined axial position in such a way that the flexed blade tilts the needle and exposes the inclined needle to a restoring force which pushes the needle off in the distal direction until the puncture end is stopped against the chamber wall. The invention can be used for intravenous catheters.

Abstract: A gun sight including a lens through which a target may be viewed and a light source for directing a point of light toward the lens, the point of light being reflected by the lens toward the viewer. The location of the reflected point of light with respect to the viewer along both windage and elevation axis is adjustable, and elevation and windage modules for permitting the adjustments are removable from the remainder of the gun sight without disturbing the adjusted and windage elevation settings.

Abstract: Flocking fibers are applied to the outsole of a shoe by placing the fibers in a chamber within a housing and placing the outsole over an opening in the housing after applying an adhesive to a surface of the outsole which is to receive the flocking. A pressurized gas jet is activated to increase the pressure in the housing thereby causing the fibers to exit the chamber and collide with the adhesive surface of the outsole. The outsoles may be supported on screens within openings in a tray which is removably mountable on the housing over the opening therein.

Abstract: An energy conversion device for generating electricity includes a heat exchanger adapted to receive heat from a heat source. A closed magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) circuit includes a section for extracting heat from a heat exchanger so as to raise the temperature of the flowable electrically conductive material within the MHD circuit. The heat exchanger includes a heat-conductive support adapted to be heated, and a heat-extracting section of the MHD circuit extracts heat from the support. The support may be a metal plate having a sinuous pipe arrangement in heat-conductive contact against each face, one of these pipe arrangements being part of a circuit for heating the plate and the other pipe arrangement being part of the MHD circuit. The heat source may be combustion of a fuel, solar, geothermal, chemical reaction, or waste heat in the form of a hot gas.

In the slide rail stopper, a housing has an elastic member inserting recess, a hinge pin, and a fixed rail coupling hole. An elastic member, into which a coil spring is inserted, is installed in the elastic member inserting recess. A rotary member having a holder is coupled to the hinge pin at the front of the elastic member inserting recess. A bracket protrudes from one side of the fixed rail, and is inserted into the fixed rail coupling hole.

Abstract: Disclosed is a light guide panel using a laser stamper, and a method and a device for producing the same. The light guide panel using a laser stamper, which is used as a rear surface light source of a liquid crystal display, is characterized in that a substrate for the light guide panel, made of an acryl-based material allowing light to penetrate therethrough, is cut into a plurality of light guide panels, and an uneven pattern on a lateral surface of the light guide panel is formed by transcribing a reverse uneven pattern of the laser stamper onto the lateral surface of the light guide panel through a laser direct recording process. Furthermore, the device for producing the light guide panel, includes a laser stamper producing part to produce a laser stamper capable of conducting a laser direct recording process, and a light guide panel producing part to produce a substrate for the light guide panel and the light guide panel in commercial quantity using the laser stamper.

The non-contact charging system detects a portable terminal, a battery pack or a foreign object that is placed on the pad of a non-contact charger, and effectively monitors and controls its charging state through the detection, thus preventing such a foreign object placed on the pad from being heated by induction heating, and further causes anions to be generated during the charging of the portable terminal or the battery pack, thus sterilizing bacteria on a terminal and keeping ambient air thereof fresh.

The heating and compressing section comprises a hollow casing having a vertical flange on a side thereof, a compression cylinder installed on the casing, a compression plunger fitted into the casing and coupled to a piston rod of the compression cylinder, and a band heater wound on a circumferential outer surface of and adjacent to a lower end of the casing.

The access subsystem is associated with interconnection means in order to receive second information signals broadcast from one or more geostationary satellites and send them via the telecommunications network for mobile users to users located within the coverage area of the mobile telecommunications network.
