    Abstract: Isopycnic or asymmetric mixed matrix hollow fiber membranes for gas separation can be made by a continuous spinning process. Mixed matrix membranes are characterized by a continuous phase of selectively gas permeable polymer in which are uniformly dispersed discrete absorbent particles such as molecular sieves that also have selectivity enhancing properties. The fibers can be monolithic in which the fiber wall is entirely mixed matrix, or composite in which an active mixed matrix layer is positioned adjacent to a supporting substrate layer. The novel mixed matrix hollow fiber membranes provide higher selectivity than dense film membranes of the continuous phase polymer.

    Abstract: A device useful for separating the components of gas mixtures includes a selectively gas permeable mixed matrix membrane of a dispersed phase of chabazite type molecular sieve particles uniformly distributed throughout a continuous phase of a polymer. The membrane can be fabricated by dispersing the chabazite type molecular sieve particles in a solution of the polymer dissolved in a suitable solvent, and then forming the suspension into a membrane structure by conventional polymer membrane fabrication techniques. Mixed matrix membranes with chabazite type molecular sieves are well suited to separations of oxygen, carbon dioxide or helium from nitrogen or methane.

    Abstract: A process and catalyst for isomerizing olefins are disclosed. The process and catalyst are particularly useful for isomerizing alkenyl bridged ring compounds to the corresponding alkyladiene bridged ring compounds. In one embodiment, the isomerization catalyst comprises an oxygen treated mixture of an alkali metal on a dried support having a surface area of 125 to 195 m.sup.2 /g when the support consists essentially of alumina wherein the alumina precursor is a large crystallite pseudoboehmite. The catalyst is particularly useful for isomerizing 5-vinyl-2-norbornene to 5-ethylidiene-2-norbornene. The catalyst is very active and highly selective and resistant to catalyst poisons. The process contacts the catalyst with an alkenyl bridged ring compound and yields the corresponding alkyladiene bridged ring compound.
