    Abstract: A valve plug design is disclosed that uses a plug head band and a retaining ring to restrain a valve plug head to a valve plug stem. This invention is specifically directed to providing valve plugs where the plug head material is different and distinct from the plug stem material and where each material is selected to optimize its performance. Moreover, this invention is provided with a means for fixing and removing the plug head to and from the plug stem that can easily be worked in the field without special purpose manufacturing equipment, thereby making the maintenance, repair and replacement of plug head easier for users. This valve plug design subjects the plug head to reduced stresses thereby enhances the operating life of the valve and valve plug. This valve plug design provides a shock absorbing, compliance barrier around and/or under the plug head.

    Abstract: A new drill insert product and the method of making the same are provided. This invention makes use of a multi-metal region bonded to the top (cutting) surface of a superabrasive layer to improve drill life, decrease the propensity for delamination and to avoid crack initiation sites in the drill insert product. This invention makes use of an inner can top composed essentially of niobium, which, under the compression pressure of an ultra high pressure press, bonds to a molybdenum disk, thereby providing improved tensile strength, abrasion resistance, bonding strength, as well as improved control over the cutting surface flatness. By using the inner can top, this invention improves process efficiency, while reducing manufacturing complexity and waste.

    Abstract: A system for communicating signals and data without the need for continuous telephone lines is described. This system provides a base unit connected to incoming signals, such as cable, satellite, PCS, cellular, fiber optics, XDSL, ISDN, etc, one or more extension units connected to the users telephone or electronics equipment and a communication link between the base unit and the one or more extension units. The preferred communication link employs a combination of an A/C power line carrier and a wireless RF channel. This system provides for the communication signals from a variety of sources through out a building or office without requiring either dedicated telephone lines or the availability of AC power outlets near the user's telephone extension equipment. This invention, in its preferred embodiments, is specifically adapted to meet the technical requirements of A/C power line communications, while taking advantage of RF communication within buildings or facilities.

Shorter, multiple segments used in this invention are also easier to manufacture, can be produced with tighter tolerances, provide easier access thereby reducing maintenance costs and allow for the inclusion of sensors in the individual ceramic segments.     Abstract: A method and system which detects failures in communication between a base unit and an extension unit in a wireless communication system and which resets the system upon detecting such failures is described. A wireless communication system in this invention can use an RF over the air communication channel or an AC power line communication channel. In this method and system failures in the extension unit are detected and the base unit is reset, thereby permitting further use of the telephone communication link. A variety of embodiments are disclosed, including: transmitting a low frequency signal from the extension unit; transmitting a high frequency signal from the extension unit; periodically transmitting a status command signal from the extension unit; and detecting the signal strength of the transmitted signal from the extension unit in the base unit.

    Abstract: A new valve device adapted specifically for use with hot erosive flow streams is provided. This valve device has an inner plug head, which modulates and throttles the amount of flow passing through the valve when the valve is open. The inner plug head is shaped so that as the valve plug approaches the closed position, the inner plug head blocks most of the flow path, reducing the flow to a small amount. The valve of this invention has an outer plug head the contacts the valve's outer ceramic seat as the valve reaches the closed position. Contact between the outer ceramic seat and the outer ceramic plug entirely shuts off flow through the valve.

Additionally, this invention provides a flap feature to enhance the placement of the shaved ice into a cup container and off of the user's hands. This invention specifically addresses the need to produce the ice shavings quickly and reliably without undue complexity, in an easy to clean cabinet and mechanism.

This flash tube uses an extension cone fixed to the outlet of a choke to create an extension choke to insure that the shock wave occurs within the extension choke, thereby decreasing the flow velocity to a subsonic level, reducing the kinetic energy of the flow as it leaves the extension choke.
