  • Patent number: 5209842
Abstract: An oil filter cartridge for internal combustion engines that employ oil filters in their operation. The input side of the cartridge is filled with microscopic solid lubricating particles of polytetrafluoroethyline (PTFE) dispersed in an oil carrier base. The microscopic particles of PTFE are of varying sizes, with the finest below the minimum given size of the filter and pass immediately into the oil circulating system. The larger sizes are gradually broken down by the high temperature, pressure and swirling flow within the filter cartridge so as to gradually pass through the filter to provide enhanced lubrication by the circulating oil during the operating life of the oil filter cartridge.

  • Patent number: 4949732
Abstract: A one-hand apparatus for insertion and fixation of an IUD which has a penetration member with a needle at the distal end for holding an attaching member of an IUD. The penetration member with the IUD are slidably received and positively locked within an insertion tube to prevent slidable movement of the needle during initial insertion to touching contact of the insertion tube with the fundus. Thereupon, the penetration member is released by thumb action of the user upon a lock/release member to allow penetration of the needle into the fundus by a predetermined distance to fix the IUD to the fundus.

  • Patent number: 4947759
Abstract: A proximity switching system comrising a plurality of self-propelled vehicles mounted in tandem on a track and carrying magnetic proximity switches for controlling the vehicle propulsion. Each vehicle has a first magnet mounted on the front end at a first position, a second magnet mounted on the back end at a second position, a first magnetic reed switch mounted on the front end at a position congruent with the second position on the back end, and a second magnetic reed switch mounted on the back end at a position congruent with the first position on the front end. A pair of electric rails are mounted next to the track. Each vehicle includes contacts for receiving voltages on the rails. A DC motor drives the vehicles on the track in one of two directions dependent on the polarity of the voltages, and for not driving the vehicles in response to the closure of the first switch when the voltage has one polarity and in response to the closure of the second switch when the voltage has an opposite polarity.

  • Patent number: 4912795
Abstract: A prefabricated modular unit construction bridging system in which all components are identical and interchangeable to meet any variation of span, width of roadway, number of lanes of traffic, and live load specification for any temporary, semi-permanent, or permanent bridge. The bridge is capable of being dismantled and the individual modular components used elsewhere to form a new bridge. The panels, when connected end-to-end to form the main load-bearing trusses of the bridge side girders, are of such a shape that they can be pinned together at their bottom chord level to support the standard cross-beams and modular deck units/bracing throughout the bridge and provide gaps between adjacent panels at their top chord level into which can be pinned other standard chord units of such a length calculated to eliminate entirely both the natural pin-hole deflection inherent in 2-pinned modular truss structures and the elastic deflection under dead load.

  • Patent number: 4887906
Abstract: A color match predictability system having a color sample, a predictability guide with sections having varying degrees of halftones, a spectrophotometer, and a computer with input and output devices. A light is directed at the color sample and then passed into the spectrophotometer where its color spectrum is analyzed, converted into data, and fed to the computer. A colorant formulation is calculated by the computer for the original color sample and for a series of modified samples including different halftone sections superimposed on the original color sample. The quality of the color match for the various formulations is analyzed to determine the formulation having the best possible color match. The modified sample having the best color match may be viewed by the user to predict the color of the final product.

  • Patent number: 4676530
Abstract: A press fitted coupling device for fluid flow systems having fluid flow conduits with luer type connectors thereon such as those systems as are used in medical and surgical applications acts to convert a luer type male connector to a male luer lock fitting by means of an internally threaded annular collar having an annular locking member preferably disc shaped snap fitted therewithin. The inner periphery of the locking member is sized and dimensioned to slip over the male luer type connector on one of the fluid flow conduits and to engage an anchor thereon adjacent the root section of the male luer type connector so as to hold the coupling device in assembled position.

  • Patent number: 4665840
Abstract: An improvement for use in a mechanical stoker with a coal stove is disclosed. The improvement device is used with a stoker, generally including a hopper, operatively connected to a small stove having a fire box forming an ash pit. The fire box, through its sides sloping downward from the hopper, supports a ramp. The lower portion of the ramp is a perforated fire grate, while the upper portion is a plate that extends through the hopper bottom and into the stove. A fan effecting a forced draft through the grate is operatively connected to a fan motor. The improvement comprises a wiper bar which overlies generally the width of the plate. The wiper bar oscillates about the longitudinal center line of the plate to feed coal or other solid fuels from the hopper onto the grate. The oscillation of the wiper bar is effected by eccentric connection to a gear motor.

  • Patent number: 4482386
Abstract: Method to condition water-swellable hydrocolloids for use in mechanical forming processes such as die molding or injection molding. To avoid long conditioning times at high temperature, the hydrocolloids are conditioned to the predetermined water content at ambient temperature and then rapidly heated, just before processing, in a gaseous stream loaded with water to the equilibrium conditions needed to maintain the predetermined water content of the hydrocolloids at the high process temperature of the mechanical forming.

  • Patent number: 4478658
Abstract: A method is disclosed for sealing edible capsules comprised of telescopically engaged tubular capsule halves that define a junction seam between them. The method comprises adhesively applying against at least a portion of the seam a frangible, edible label adapted to cover the seam at the point of intersection therewith, and to fracture upon slight displacement of the capsule halves with respect to each other. In one embodiment, the present method comprises the preparation of individual labels, the application to such labels of a quantity of adhesive and the subsequent application of the labels to the capsule. In an alternate embodiment, the labels, comprising a film forming material, are directly applied to the capsule by the projection of a hot melt of the film forming material onto the capsule at the location of the seam.
