  • Patent number: 5008234
Abstract: Compositions of matter useful as catalysts in heterogeneous reactions and comprising metal atom clusters supported on inorganic supports such as silica, alumina or zeolites are prepared by vaporizing the metal at low temperatures and pressures into an environment of ethylene and a gaseous inert solvent. A metal-ethylene complex, protected by solvent molecules is formed. The complex is melted to liquid phase and used to impregnate the support. Then the material is warmed to ambient temperature to remove the solvent, decompose the complex and form monatomic or clusters of metal on the support.

  • Patent number: 5008609
Abstract: In an output stage, an n-FET and a p-FET are connected in series, which is interposed between a power supply line and a ground. A first serial connection circuit generates a gate potential of the n-FET, and a second serial connection circuit generates a gate potential of the p-FET. The first and the second serial connection circuits are connected in parallel to each other, each of which has its one end connected to the power supply line through a resistor, and its other end connected to the ground through a resistor. As a result, even if a resistance value of the resistor is small, currents to be consumed can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5007523
Abstract: A conveyor belt scraper assembly includes a plurality of blade scraper units detachably mounted to a support shaft with a clamping bolt and hold-down bar arrangement. The plural scraper units are preferably molded from resilient material. The one or more scraper units adapted to contact center portions of the conveyor belt is preferably formed of a harder material than the scraper units contacting side portions of the belt. The assembly is driven into and out of scraping contact with the conveyor belt into means of a piston and cylinder arrangement with the cylinder preferably actuated with pressurized water from conventional sources as available in a mining environment. The cylinder is transparent to permit visual monitoring of the location of the piston head. First and second marker tapes fixed to the transparent cylinder provide points of reference indicative of blade wear and the need for replacement when the piston head contacts the second marker.

  • Patent number: 5008514
Abstract: Induction heating is used to heat a moving strip (4) of non-ferrous material by causing it to form a short-circuited loop acting as the secondary winding of a transformer (1), the loop passing over pulleys (6, 9, 5 or 16). In one arrangement, one of the pulleys (16) has a double groove and the strip (4) passes over one groove (18), around another of the pulleys (19) and back to the other groove (20) of the double grooved pulley (16). This enables the strip to enter or leave the inside of the loop without colliding with the other side of the loop. In an alternative arrangement, the strip enters or leaves the inside of the loop at an angle to the plane of the loop and is prevented from contacting the other side of the loop by an insulating spacer (7).

  • Patent number: 5008831
Abstract: A computer operated method for transforming the appearance of a chemical structure entered into a computer wherein at least one alternate equivalent structure is generated within the computer (or by keyboard entry). A series of parameters applicable to chemical structures are established along with values for such parameters. Following that it is established which of such parameters are present in the first structure and the values thereof are summed to obtain a score. The parameters present in the alternate structures are then established and summed to establish a score for each. The scores are then compared and the highest score is selected and the structure corresponding to the highest score is outputted or printed.

  • Patent number: 5008523
Abstract: Current derived from an indium arsenide current generating photodetector is determined accurately, despite the presence of a variable resistance between terminals of the photodetector and the photodetector having leads with appreciable resistance connected to the detector terminals. Two leads are connected to each detector terminal. The two leads connected to one of the detector terminals are respectively connected to an inverting input terminal of an operational amplifier and to one terminal of a feedback resistor of the amplifier; the other terminal of the feedback resistor is connected to the amplifier output terminal. The two leads connected to the other terminal of the photodetector are respectively connected to the operational amplifier non-inverting input terminal and to ground. The operational amplifier derives an output voltage that accurately represents the output current of the photodetector, independently of the photodetector resistance and the lead wire resistance.
