  • Patent number: 7789816
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and device for exercise comprising having two bases each supporting a pivoting arm with a grip attached thereto with a rotating hub attached to each pivoting arm (wherein each hub has a magnetically attractive region thereon and each pivoting arm is movable around 360 degrees). Placing a movable magnetic device in close proximity to each hub (wherein moving the magnetic device will vary the magnetic field being applied to the hub), placing a user grasping the grips (between the bases) and moving the grips around a guided circular pathway and varying the magnetic field being applied to each hub, thereby adjusting the resistance being exercised with, during movement of the grip around one revolution.

  • Patent number: 7763086
Abstract: A hydrogen generation system is disclosed that includes a fuel reforming reactor generating a hydrogen-rich reformate gas at a temperature greater than 150 C, a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) hydrogen purification unit that separates the reformate gas into a relatively pure hydrogen stream and an off-gas stream, and a catalytic reactor down stream of the PSA unit that converts carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2) contained in the relatively pure hydrogen stream into methane (CH4) and water vapor (H2O). The method of purification involves generating a hydrogen-rich reformate gas at a temperature greater than 150 C in a fuel reforming reactor, separating the reformate gas into a relatively pure hydrogen stream and an off-gas stream in a pressure swing adsorption (PSA) hydrogen purification unit, and converting carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H2) contained in the relatively pure hydrogen stream into methane (CH4) and water vapor (H2O) in a catalytic reactor down stream of the PSA unit.

  • Patent number: 7762164
Abstract: A torque-limiting driver has a handle, a body, a torque-limiting assembly and a work-piece engaging tip. The torque-limiting assembly includes an upper and lower shank that have a plurality of teeth circumferentially spaced. The teeth have a vertical face, and inclined face and a flat peak. The inclined face is defined by a radius of curvature that transitions to the flat peak. There is a spring for applying pressure across the upper and lower shank. The teeth engage for relative rotation when the handle is turned and disengage when a predetermined value of torque is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 7762570
Abstract: A self-locking mechanism includes a first body member that rotates relative to a second body member, a lock lever rotatably coupled to the first body member and a biasing element that biases the rotation of the lock lever in a latching direction. The lock lever includes a cam portion that includes a cam surface configured to interface with a latch element on the second body member. The cam surface slidably engages the latch element and is configured so that the sliding engagement between the cam surface and the latch element causes the body members to be drawn together when the lock lever is rotated in the latching direction.

  • Patent number: 7754158
Abstract: A filter assembly for an air purifier is provided. The filter assembly includes base plates that are curved and have a lamp insertion hole formed at its center so that an ultraviolet (UV) lamp can be inserted thereto, a gap retaining member that keeps the base plates spaced apart from each other and combined with each other. Surfaces of the base plates are coated with either a photocatalyst material and silver nanoparticles. According to the filter assembly, the sterilizing and disinfecting capability can be enhanced by increasing a contact area between each of base plates and silver nanoparticles. In addition, since the filter assembly is easily assembled, length adaptability of the filter assembly can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 7740799
Abstract: Opposite sides of an article are irradiated to sterilize the article. The cumulative irradiation should be above a first value, and below a second value greater than the first value, at all of the positions in the article to provide the article with desired radiation benefits. Any amount of cumulative radiation between the first and second values is considered as optimal values. For a first range of article thicknesses, the cumulative radiation in the article is at the optimal values. For article thicknesses in a second range greater than in the first range, the cumulative radiation at positions in the article is greater than the optimal values. For article thicknesses in a third range greater than the second range, the cumulative radiation at the different positions in the article is at the optimal values. For the thicknesses in the second range, a member disposed in the radiation path weakens the radiation passing to the article, thereby reducing the cumulative radiation to an optimal value.

  • Patent number: 7707285
Abstract: A system and method is provided for capturing and using problem fingerprints in an Information Technology (IT) infrastructure for integrity management. A fingerprint of the transaction topology in an IT infrastructure is automatically captured at various time intervals prior to the occurrence of an event leading to a problem, such as a failure, hard threshold violation, defined transaction violation or user-provided occurrence. The fingerprint provides an indication of the activity and operation of the IT infrastructure immediately preceding the problem event. The captured fingerprint is then used to monitor real-time data in the IT infrastructure operation and activity to look for activity that matches a captured fingerprint to provide an indication of a pending problems before the problems occur.

  • Patent number: 7702190
Abstract: An optical fiber strain sensor, a method of fabricating the same, and a method of sensing strain (1200). The method of strain sensing comprises providing an optical fiber having at least a first fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and a second FBG formed therein (1202); subjecting the optical fiber to a strain inducing force such that a grating period in the first FBG compresses and a grating period in the second FBG extends (1204); and optically interrogating the first and second FBG to determine peak reflection wavelengths of the first and second FBGs respectively (1206), whereby a separation between the peak reflection wavelengths of the first and second FBGs is representative of the strain induced.

  • Patent number: 7667128
Abstract: A transducer for converting mechanical vibrations to an electrical signal and/or for converting an electrical signal to mechanical vibration. Damping liquid damps the relative vibration of transducer components. The damping liquid can be selected to optimize the sound quality of acoustic vibrations at the point of transduction. Also, a transducer with components that rotate relative to each other. For example, a permanent magnet component may simultaneous vibrate rotationally and linearly with respect to an electric signal carrying coil. The characteristics of the rotational vibration may be adjusted to optimize sound quality of acoustic vibrations at the point of transduction.

  • Patent number: 7620523
Abstract: According to a feature of the present disclosure, a method is provided for the determination of anomalous events in complex systems, such as problems, inefficiencies, and failures, and a tool is provided for the detection of these events. Many complex systems are non-stationary or experience periodic fluctuations or spikes in values that are outside of normal ranges, but constitute normal behavior nevertheless. The method accounts for both non-stationarity, as well as fluctuations and spikes. Additional novel features include both a threshold setting initialization method and a regression method for the determination of the start points and end points of events.

  • Patent number: 7607199
Abstract: A pivot door hinge assembly includes a clamp housing, wedge, and base plate. The clamp housing is preferably generally U-shaped and has an interior channel. The interior channel is tapered such that one end of the interior channel is wider than a second end. The wedge is located in the interior channel of the clamp housing and in between one side of the glass door and an inner surface of the clamp housing. The wedge is also tapered. The set screw is located at one end of the clamp housing and is used to urge the wedge from that end toward the other end. As the wedge moves away from the wider end of the interior channel, this causes the wedge to move closer to the glass door and apply greater pressure against the glass door and an interior side of the clamp housing. This is because the tapered interior channel forces the wedge away from one side of the clamp housing toward the other side. A base plate having a raised portion may also be used.

  • Patent number: 7585303
Abstract: Improved devices for removing tissue, for example nasal hair using natural wax. One embodiment uses telescoping tubes and there is wax or glue located in the inner tubes or between the tubes, whereby the tubes are located so that the inner one can extend or retract relative to the outer tube.
