  • Patent number: 6543235
Abstract: A single circuit fuel injector apparatus having a bifurcated recirculation zone is provided. The single circuit injector includes an injector tip having an aft facing tapered surface which is communicated with a plurality of fuel injector ports. A radially inward tapered conical air splitter directs sweep air over the tapered injector tip. An air blast atomizer filmer lip is disposed concentrically outward from the tapered tip. In a low power operating mode, fuel exiting the fuel injector ports is entrained within a centralized sweep air stream. In a high power operating mode, the majority of the fuel exiting the fuel injection ports has sufficient momentum to carry it across the sweep air stream so that it falls upon the main fuel filmer lip and is entrained in an outer main air stream.

  • Patent number: 6538892
Abstract: A radial finned heat sink assembly for an electrical component is constructed from a graphite material, which may be resin impregnated. The assembly includes a base, and a plurality of spaced parallel planar fin members supported by the base. Each fin member includes a planar fin of an anisotropic graphite material having graphite layers aligned primarily with the plane of the fin. In a first construction the fin members include integral core portions. In a second construction the core portions are separately formed so that the graphene layers of the core portion are aligned primarily parallel to the core axis so that heat is efficiently transmitted from the base to the plate members along the core axis.

  • Patent number: 6504124
Abstract: A glass sorting machine optically sorts glass cullet according to different color characteristics by irradiating the cullet with red, green and blue light as the cullet are passed through a sensing region between a light source and light sensors responsive to the different light colors. The attenuation levels of the different light colors are measured by the sensors as the cullet passes through the sensing region. The machine analyzes the attenuation levels to determine the color characteristics of the cullet. A collimator is typically used to enhance shadow definition. In one embodiment, a pixel grid map is made of the sensing region and each cullet that passes through the sensing region. Mapped on to each grid is a red, green, and blue digital signal. Attenuated signals are compared against baseline values to determine the attenuation for given cullet. The pixel grid map may be used with a data erosion technique to compensate for refraction.

  • Patent number: 6497324
Abstract: A system for sorting articles includes a feed conveyor for launching the articles across an airspace toward a first destination. A light source shines light energy on the articles in the airspace. A collector collects light energy reflected from the articles. A deflector is provided for deflecting selected articles toward an alternative destination as the articles fly across the airspace. A control system is operably connected to the collector and the deflector for actuating the deflector in response to a sensed parameter, such as an electromagnetic radiation frequency spectrum, of the light energy collected in the collector. Preferably, this system is utilized with a retro-reflector located on an opposite side of the airspace from the light source and the collector. This system also preferably includes the use of a multi-plexer which allows a single analyzer unit to be utilized to analyze light signals from each of a large plurality of collector units of the collector.

  • Patent number: 6481222
Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically regulating the environmental system of a motorized vehicle and other articles having storage compartments. As impinging air flow is directed through the cabin or compartment subject to environmental control it comes in contact with a desiccant filler contained within a desiccant wheel or canister. The desiccant material absorbs moisture out of the air stream. The resultant air stream, or the extracted moisture released into another air stream, may then be directed to the interior of the motorized vehicle or used in other parts of the system. The net effect is a decrease or increase in the relative humidity level of the air mass contained in the cabin or compartment of a motorized vehicle or refrigeration unit. As one portion or element of the desiccant filler becomes saturated, the other portion or element of the desiccant filler completes it's regeneration cycle.
