A digital model of each of the many geologic strata that compose a basin is created for all or a portion of a basin by digitizing well log data 100, collecting all digitized well log data in a data base, marking common geological time markers throughout the entire basin and visually displaying the basin in a number of useful views 380, 580 to permit the isolation or identification of oil and gas producing geological formations. This allows for the generation of oil and gas drilling prospects 600 through the extrapolation of productive depositional features into un-drilled portions of the basin. The present invention expedites these processes and allows the available well log data to be viewed in ways not previously possible thereby greatly enabling oil and gas exploration and development in a basin.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating for disposal oil-contaminated clay substrates such as drill cuttings from drilling with an oil-based mud. If necessary, the substrate is pretreated with an aqueous emulsion breaker such as alkylbenzenesulfonic acid. The substrate is mixed under high shear conditions with a mineral acid such as sulfuric acid. This can be done in an agitated reactor with sequential addition of the organic and inorganic acids. The substrate is then mixed with alkaline earth such as lime in a second agitated reactor. The reactions between the acid(s), alkaline earth and substrate are exothermic and provide heat to vaporize the oil, reaction products and water. Recoverable constituents in the vapor can be condensed in a vapor collection system. The treated substrate is essentially free of oil and has a controlled water content.

    Abstract: An ultrasonic dental scaler automatically supplies a frequency to match a handpiece connecting thereto. A handpiece connector includes one or more passive elements, which affect the resonant frequency produced by the generator. Multiple handpieces, each operating at a different resonant frequency, may thus be used with the same ultrasonic generator. The ultrasonic dental scaler also supports two footswitches. One footswitch includes a foot-controlled power level adjuster. When connected, the footswitch automatically disables the manual power adjuster. Another on-off footswitch includes no power adjustment mechanism. When connected, the manual power adjustment feature of the generator is maintained. Orders for different handpiece frequencies and footswitch types can thus be filled with an inventory of one generator model.

    Abstract: A method is provided for reducing lost circulation when aqueous, oil, or synthetic based drilling fluid is used. The method includes injecting two fluids into the well bore and lost circulation zone. The first fluid is an aqueous liquid containing at least one polymer capable of absorbing water in an alkaline environment. The aqueous liquid has a pH that inhibits at least one polymer from absorbing water. The second fluid contains a hardening composition in a base fluid having a pH sufficient to increase the pH in situ to allow at least one polymer to absorb water and expand with the absorbed water and substantially increase in size to close off the lost circulation zone and allow the hardening composition to create a plug in the well bore and set up.

The implantation tool has inner and outer concentric tubes, the inner tube releasably threadably connected to the prosthesis, the outer tube reverse threaded with the inner tube to advance a distal headpiece to engage, deploy and lock the spikes into the deployed configuration. A vacuum assist can be used to help impact the lumen wall on the spikes.

    Abstract: An integrated large capacity, single-train process for making 1,00020,000 MTPD methanol and 3006,000 MTPD acetic acid is disclosed. Syngas 120 is produced by autothermal reforming 118 of natural gas 102 where the feed 112 of the natural gas is supplied with oxygen and CO2 recycle 110 to the autothermal reformer (ATR) 118. A portion (5-50%) of the syngas is fed to CO2 removal 122 to obtain the recycle CO2 and cold box 130 to obtain a hydrogen stream 131 and a CO stream 135. The 50-95% remaining syngas, hydrogen stream 131 and optionally any CO2 from an associated process are fed to methanol synthesis 140, which produces the methanol. The methanol is supplied to an acetic acid unit 136 with the CO 135 to make the acetic acid, which in turn can be supplied to a VAM synthesis unit 148. Oxygen for the ATR and any VAM synthesis can be supplied by a single common air separation unit 116, and utilities such as steam generation can further integrate the process.

The existing plant has a reformer (10) to which natural gas or another hydrocarbon and steam (water) are fed. Syngas is formed in the reformer (10). All or part of the syngas is process to separate out carbon dioxide (24), carbon monoxide (30) and hydrogen (32), and the separated carbon dioxide (24) is the existing to the existing methanol synthesis loop (12) for methanol synthesis, or back into the feed to the reformer (10) to enhance carbon monoxide formation in the syngas (18). Any remaining syngas (38) not fed to the carbon dioxide separator (22) can be converted to methanol in the existing methanol synthesis loop (12) along with carbon dioxide (24) from the separator (22) and/or imported carbon dioxide (25), and hydrogen (35) from the separator (28). The separated carbon monoxide (30) is then reacted with the methanol (36) to produce acetic acid (40) or an acetic acid precursor by a conventional process.
