  • Patent number: 5016201
Abstract: In a real time, on-line pH measurement of an aqueous solution, a system provides continuous data on the physical condition of the pH sensor. The system includes a pH sensor having a membrane disposed in the process solution with a first external electrode attached to outer surface of the membrane and a second external electrode adjacent the sensor. The two electrodes in the solution are periodically driven by a short time duration dc signal producing a direct current between the two electrodes. The direction of the current through the solution is periodically reversed. This action results in electrolysis of the H.sub.2 O molecules of the solution between the two electrodes producing controlled changes in hydrogen ion concentration at the sensor. One current direction produces an increase in pH and the other direction produces a decrease in pH.

  • Patent number: 5015142
Abstract: A system includes a point-of-use container having a plurality of removable bins with each bin for a different recyclable material. A pickup container, transportable to a pickup location, has a plurality of bins corresponding to the point-of-use bins, each bin having a hinged lid with a catch for maintaining the lid normally closed. A truck body has a set of bins corresponding to the pickup container bins and an automated arm mechanism for picking up and inverting the pickup container over the truck body bins. A computer is programmed to control the arm mechanism to perform the required movements. A barcode on the pickup container is read and lid catch releases selectively operated when each bin is over a corresponding truck body bin to dump the contents of the container bins. The container is returned to its pickup location and released.

  • Patent number: 4961163
Abstract: In a real time, on-line pH measurement of a process solution, a system provides a continuous data of the physical condition of the pH sensor. The system includes a pH sensor having a glass membrane disposed in the process solution and two electrodes in the solution adjacent the sensor. The two electrodes in the solution are periodically driven by a short time duration dc signal producing a dc current between the two electrodes. This action results in electrolysis ofo the H.sub.2 O molecules of the solution at the two electrodes and a resulting decrease in hydrogen ion concentration (a rise in pH value) in the region of the sensor. The sensor response to the increase in pH in the solution is a direct indicator of the complete sensor and system performance and is monitored and analyzed. Visual readouts and threshold alarm circuits are provided which indicate changes in the sensor response to the pH change indicative of a sensor or system degradation or fault.

  • Patent number: 4931700
Abstract: A cold cathode electron gun utilizes a metallic torus for electrostatic focusing of an electron beam. A nonconductive tube is disposed within and along the axis of the torus. A conductive aerodynamic body electrically connected to the torus forms an annular venturi in the tube and includes a face which serves as a high field emitting surface. High molecular weight gas is introduced into a proximal end of the tube at a stagnation pressure sufficient to produce supersonic flow thereby causing a vacuous gas region adjacent the emitting surface. The torus and emitting surface are driven to a very high negative potential by a Tesla transformer or the like, producing high field emission into the vacuous region. The electric field of the torus produces, from the emitted electrons, an electron beam which issues from the tube into the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4900422
Abstract: A system for real time, on-line dissolved oxygen (DO) measurement of a process solution provides continuous data of the physical condition of the DO sensor and of the entire system performance. A DO sensor is disposed in the solution with two external electrodes adjacent thereto. A time-varying low level signal is applied to one electrode producing a current through the sensor membrane and grounded electrode, which is detected by a cross-correlation circuit to monitor the membrane impedance. The other electrode is periodically driven by a short, low level dc pulse, producing electrolysis of the water between the two electrodes, and generating a small, repeatable amount of oxygen ions. The sensor response is analyzed providing a direct indication of the sensor and system performance.

  • Patent number: 4898636
Abstract: A method of registering a plurality of substrate boards in a laminated printed wiring panel to permit drilling for plated-through holes at centers of terminal areas, which have shifted from design locations during processing of the boards and panel, involves drilling of a small target pilot hole at a known location through a substrate board prior to etching of a printed wiring pattern thereon. A small disc of magnetically detectable material is inserted into the pilot target hole and a printed wiring pattern is then etched on the board. After etching of the drilled board, it is laminated with other printed wiring substrate boards to form a composite printed wiring panel. A magnetic detector using a transparent container with a small magnetic disc floated on the surface of a thin layer of water in the container is placed on a top surface of the board and moved to permit the magnetic disc to center over the embedded disc.
