  • Patent number: 4640740
Abstract: Apparatus for removing volatile components from a liquid includes three distinct sections of a confined passageway for the liquid. The first section is for heating the liquid to a predetermined temperature at a preselected pressure such that vaporization of the volatile components is prevented. The second section of the confined passageway is a restrictive orifice forming flow path. The third section is a volatile component evaporation section. The volatile component evaporation section and the restrictive orifice forming flow path are dimensioned relative to one another and in respect of the preselected pressure and temperature of the liquid product such that the volatile components of the liquid substantially instantaneously vaporize in a flashing action as the liquid passes from the restrictive orifice forming flow path to the volatile component evaporization section.

Abstract: The burner system includes an apertured burner plate with low thermal conductivity which is adapted to be positioned in a closed combustion chamber. A mixing chamber below the combustion chamber has a gas inlet and an air inlet. A fan is operatively arranged in the mixing chamber. A detector provides an electric detection signal which varies with the composition of the burnt gas in the combustion chamber. The detection signal is applied to the input of an electronic control unit, which in response to the detection signal produces at least one output signal. Control means are responsive to the output signal for controlling the air-gas mix supplied to the mixing chamber.

  • Patent number: 4619560
Abstract: A prefabricated concrete module and a composite wall structure comprised of an assembly of modules, where the module comprises a generally rectangular front and rear panel, joined by at least one generally trapezoidal partition means. A cellular wall structure is formed by stacking the modules and aligning the partition means on top of each other, thereby forming bins which contain loose material contributing to the weight of the structure. Provisions can be made for slabs which span longitudinally across partition means of vertically contiguous modules. These slabs, which capture an additional amount of loose material, can also, where desired, transfer lateral forces between superposed partition means. In a version of the module, useful whether or not the trapezoidal partition means are employed, the longitudinal distance from a partition to the edge of the front panel, is less than half the distance between partitions.

  • Patent number: 4614305
Abstract: An apparatus for indicating and controlling the vehicle speed and load of a mobile foliage chopping machine. As rotational speed of the chopping drum increases over its permissible minimum, a vehicle increasing speed control is carried out. Correspondingly, a decrease in speed due to increase in the working load of the chopping drum is compensated by a reduction of gear transmission of the driving machinery. Thus, the adjusted speed is held but in case of chopping drum overload, when rotational speed of the drum starts to fall below the permissible minimum, the vehicle speed control is discontinued, i.e., a speed decreasing intervention is done, therefore the permissible working load of chopping machine is held, while overload is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4602967
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for thermally cutting rectangular metal slabs along a longitudinal axis of the slab. A metal slab is conveyed along a predetermined path of travel while it is being cut by, for example, an oxygen-flame cutting machine. The means for conveying the metal slab comprises a plurality of rollers transversely disposed relative to the path of travel and the cutting machine is arranged above the conveying means and between two of the rollers. The slag created by the cutting is collected and conveyed by a slag duct disposed below the conveying means. Pursuant to the invention, the slag duct extends from between the two rollers adjacent the cutting machine along an axis transverse to the path of travel. In accordance with another feature of the invention, the side edges of the metal slab are sensed and the cutting machine is transversely aligned relative to the path of travel in accordance with the sensed locations of the side edges.

  • Patent number: 4598444
Abstract: A propeller-spreader for tubular knitted fabric is disclosed, in which internal, fabric edge engaging propeller belts are driven by means of magnetic coupling with internal, magnetic drive sheaves. A spreader frame, of flat configuration, arranged to laterally distend tubular knitted fabric to flat, two-layer form, is supported by means of a pair of spaced, transversely extending rollers. Magnetically coupled drive elements are positioned between the transverse support rollers and are driven to rotate in synchronism with the rotations of the support rollers. Ideally, the spreader frame is supported and positioned exclusively by means of the transverse support rollers, in conjunction with the magnetic attraction of the magnetically coupled drive means.

  • Patent number: 4597524
Abstract: The disclosure relates to an improved snow making machine for ski areas and the like, which enables the snow making process to be carried out with greater efficiency than heretofore and with simplifications in the basic equipment requirements. The apparatus utilizes water and compressed air supplies, conventionally provided at the site and extracts a fraction of the energy available in the pressurized water supply by first passing the water through a turbine motor driving an axial fan. The water exiting from the turbine is then mixed with compressed air in a plurality of nozzles and discharged into the air stream created by the turbine-driven axial fan. The equipment makes possible the production of large volumes of high quality snow with greatly reduced requirements for compressed air utilization.

  • Patent number: 4593854
Abstract: A snow-making machine is disclosed which includes a first group of air-water snow-making nozzles and a second group of airless, water atomizing nozzles. A distributional air fan is driven by a water turbine. Water for the air-water snow-making nozzles is derived from the outlet side of the turbine, while water for the airless nozzles is derived from the intake side of the turbine. A novel construction of air-water manifold ring and air-water nozzles associated therewith is also described. The construction provides a high efficiency, low cost, lightweight snow-making unit, ideally suited for ski area snow-making operations.

  • Patent number: 4582451
Abstract: A floodgate structure is disclosed for closing of an hydraulic flow channel at selected times, as during flooding conditions. A gate panel is normally loosely and slideably received in a recess below grade level. To render the gate operational, it is lifted into a channel-blocking position. Pneumatically inflatable peripheral sealing elements extend from the water side of the panel into sealing contact with a fixed support structure. The opposite side of the panel supports a flexible but noninflatable sealing skirt element, which is pressed into sealing contact with the supporting structure by expansion of the inflatable elements. When thus positioned, the sealing skirt becomes hydrostatically loaded by the pressure of the water and functions as an effective seal in the event of subsequent failure of the pneumatically expandable elements.
