Abstract: A method of producing a site for tissue ingrowth on a surgical implant by embedding a space occupier possessing a desired pattern in the surface of the implant at the desired location for ingrowth and then solubilizing the embedded space occupier to leave the pattern on the implant surface. Preferably, the implant is fabricated from a composite comprising a semi-crystalline thermoplastic resin such as polyetheretherketone or polyphenylene sulfide, and the space occupier is an acid-soluble metal plate machined to produce the desired pattern and removed by aqueous acid solution.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of monocarbonyl or biscarbonyl compounds by reacting organic carbon compounds having one or more olefinic or aromatic double bonds in the molecule with the equivalent amount of ozone and by subsequently catalytically hydrogenating the ozonization products, wherein the peroxide-containing ozonization solution is fed continuously into a suspension of the hydrogenation catalyst in a lower aliphatic alcohol, while a peroxide content of not more than 0.1 mole/l is maintained, and the ozonization products are continuously cleaved reductively to give the corresponding carbonyl compounds.

Abstract: The invention relates to a fluidized-bed method for simultaneously obtaining the dry matter from aqueous solutions of extract substances from deproteinized calves blood and producing granules which can be compressed to give solid medicament forms and contain at least 50% by weight of extract substances, relative to the total dry weight of the granules, a binder and pharmaceutically acceptable fillers and carriers, by spraying an aqueous solution of the extract substances and of the binder on to the fillers and carriers and granulating the mixed material at a defined water content in the fluidized bed. After drying, granules ready for compression are obtained, and they are used for producing solid medicament forms of high stability and constant quality.

Abstract: Device for cutting band-shaped or strand-shaped material, having a cutting device in the form of a cutter roller, in which outwardly-pointing cutting edges which are arranged at a uniform distance from one another connect two circular disc-shaped or annular bodies to one another, which bodies hold the cutting edges, and the material to be cut via these cutting edges forms a lap superimposed in several coil layers, the radial innermost position of which lap is cut by the pressure which acts in intensified manner as a result of a loading body. The cutter blades, the cutting edges of which cut the material, are arranged for reducing the bending stress in such a way that they are at a setting angle alpha of 5.degree. to 25.degree. to the radial direction of the device, with the cutting edges pointing in the direction of movement of the cutter roller.
