  • Patent number: 5142758
Abstract: For the transport of widths or sheets of paper, a roller is disclosed which comprises a bushing (1), which is surrounded by an elastic cylindrical casing. The bushing has a coaxial bore into which a shaft (3) is pressed. The bore of the bushing (1), which limits the clearance is provided with radially inwardly extending protrusions (2), which are evenly angularly spaced about the bore and which extend in the axial direction. When pressing the shaft (3) into the bushing (1) of the roller body, the protrusions (2) are forced to move radially outwards and effect a rotationally secure connection of the roller body to the shaft (3). Any expansion of the bushing will be even and while possibly enlarging the casing will not interfere with concentricity.

  • Patent number: 5139848
Abstract: A combination section consisting of a base section (1) and a covering section (2). The covering section (2) is of an anti-friction material having a coefficient of expansion deviating from that of the material of the base section (1), and is divided between fastening points into partial lengths (4). The partial lengths (4) are interconnected by deformable bridges (6). This makes it possible for the partial lengths (4) to expand essentially unhindered, independent of the expansion of the base section (1) to a different extent.

  • Patent number: 5134540
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an improved varistor or capacitor, and the resultant improved varistor or capacitor is described. In accordance with the method the ceramic layers of the varistor are formed by providing at least two strata separated by a boundary layer which resists grain growth thereacross. The ceramic body is sintered under temperature conditions sufficiently low that grain growth within the strata defining the ceramic layers is restricted to the strata such that grain growth across the boundary material is minimized. By this method the ceramic layers have a predictable number of grain boundaries between adjacent electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5099218
Abstract: A binary electrical fuse is comprised of a core wire which is preferably relatively rigid, has a high ohmic resistance, and a high melt temperature. The core wire is clad with a metal of substantially less rigidity having a low ohmic resistivity, and low melt temperature, i.e. in the range of from about 230 degrees C. to 700 degrees C. The resistance of the core wire is at least about ten times the resistance of the cladding and preferably twenty or more times the resistance of the cladding. In the course of a fusing cycle the cladding metal will melt and pool, leaving the core wire as the sole conductor resulting in a rapid blow of the fuse due to the sudden high resistance load presented by the core wire.

  • Patent number: 5092837
Abstract: A method of permanently surgically treating glaucoma is disclosed together with an apparatus for effecting such treatment. In accordance with the method, an implant is disposed at a filtration site through the sclera the implant including a through going aperture leading from the anterior chamber to a bleb formed in the conjunctiva. The implant is retained in the sclera by radially compressing the same during the insertion procedure and thereafter releasing the radial compressive forces whereby the implant expands and is prevented from dislocation. An apparatus for effecting the implant is likewise disclosed, the apparatus including a cannula having a bore constraining the insert, a plunger for shifting the insert through an angularly offset opening in the cannula and a retainer filament engaged in the passage in the insert for controlling the precise location of the insert during the implant and for releasing the insert from connection to the cannula when the precise position is achieved.

  • Patent number: 5072329
Abstract: A multilayer ceramic capacitive device resistant to delamination and method of making the same are disclosed. Intervening layers are interposed between the metallic electrode layers and the dielectric layers, the intervening layers being comprised of ceramic compatible with the ceramic of the dielectric and increments of metal compatible with the electrode layers. In the sintering process augmented bonds are formed between the electrode metal and components of metal in the intervening layers and similarly such bonds are formed between the ceramic components of the intervening layers and the dielectric components. In addition to delamination resistance the resultant capacitors provides augmented mechanical adhesion of the terminations to the end faces of the capacitor and improved heat dissipation.

  • Patent number: 5067278
Abstract: A readily demountable door assembly for sealing an aperture in a duct comprises a door member having an inwardly directed ramp or cam which lies within the duct and is inclined outwardly toward the duct surface. A clamp is adapted to be mounted adjacent the aperture of the duct at a position diametrically opposite the ramp. The clamp engages the door and shifts the same in the direction of the ramp, which movement presses the flange of the door tightly against the duct surface, the clamp including portions which overlie the door at positions remote from the ramp to urge such remotely disposed portions of the door against the duct surface.
