  • Patent number: 6276385
Abstract: A control system for positioning a control valve is disclosed. The control system employs first and second control loops, and a plug and seat valve assembly. The first control loop monitors a position or variable of the valve or device being controlled and compares it to a provided setpoint to generate a setpoint for the plug and seat valve. The second control loop compares the measured position of the plug and seat valve to the second setpoint to generate a correction signal to accurately position the plug and seat valve. By employing first and second control loops, the accuracy and responsiveness to which the control valve is positioned is improved.

  • Patent number: 6274942
Abstract: An apparatus for retarding an increase in braking torque associated with connecting an electrical consumer to a power supply of a drive system of a vehicle such as an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The apparatus includes a generator operatively connected to the drive engine. The generator serves to supply one or more electrical consumers. The apparatus also includes a control system which causes the generator to subject the drive engine to a slowly increasing braking torque during engagement of one or more electrical consumers to thereby provide time for performance of an ignition or filling intervention to ensure the increased load of the added consumer(s) does not cause undesirable effects in engine performance.

  • Patent number: 6272799
Abstract: A loading dock seal includes a low-profile backer that is vertically adjustable relative to a wall-mounted bracket to facilitate the installation of the seal. In some embodiments the bracket is generally U-shaped with a turned-in lip on one leg of the U-shape. The backer, to which a compressible foam pad is attached, is similarly U-shaped to nest within the bracket. During installation of the seal, the turned-in lip restrains the backer horizontally, yet allows the backer to be adjusted vertically to properly position the seal. Once properly adjusted, an added fastener further fixes the backer to the bracket, so that the seal is fixed both horizontally and vertically. In some embodiments, the low profile of the backer is achieved by forming the both the backer and the bracket out of sheet metal. The backer includes elongated channels or slots for bolt head clearance to accommodate anchor bolts that connect the bracket to a wall.
