Abstract: A flexible air duct is provided for conveying and distributing a source of forced air to a room or other area of a building. The air duct includes a flexible outer casing made of an air permeable fabric that evenly disperses the air into the room. To prevent the fabric from sagging when the source of forced air is periodically turned off, a support frame holds the casing in a generally open tubular shape even when the duct's interior and exterior air pressures are the same.
Abstract: Methods for preparing ester derivatives of 3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol (prenyl alcohol) from 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene (isoprene) and alkanoic acids in the presence of an inorganic acid catalyst are disclosed. The resultant prenyl ester (e.g., prenyl acetate) can be converted to prenyl alcohol by reaction with water in the presence of either a suitable enzyme or a base.
Abstract: A planar magnetic device including a planar conductive winding and planar cooling element is disclosed. The planar cooling element includes a number of cooling layers some of which may have apertures therein to create a passage that accommodates fluid flow. In operation, coolant is pumped through the passage of the planar cooling element to remove heat from the planar magnetic device.
Abstract: Improved therapeutic compositions, methods and uses of bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI) products involve use of dimeric forms of BPI protein product monomers characterized by enhanced in vivo biological activity. Preferred formulations include 50 percent or more by weight dimeric product and preferred therapeutic uses include endotoxin neutralization and heparin neutralization.
Abstract: A dock leveler including a deck pivotally mounted relative to a loading dock, and a lip pivotally connected to the deck at the front end for pivotal movement between a pendant position and an extended position wherein the lip may engage the vehicle, at least one leg member pivotally connected to the front end of the deck for movement between a supporting position and a nonsupporting position, and a leg control member pivotally attached to the front end of the deck and adapted to engage the bed of the vehicle along with the lip, and to maintain the leg member in a nonsupporting position so long as the leg control member is carried on the bed of the vehicle, the leg control member losing contact with a departing vehicle before the lip loses contact with the vehicle, allowing the leg member to return to a supporting position, such that downward movement of the deck will be arrested in the event the vehicle continues departing and the lip loses contact with the bed of the vehicle with a load present on the deck.
Abstract: A control system for positioning a control valve is disclosed. The control system employs first and second control loops, and a plug and seat valve assembly. The first control loop monitors a position or variable of the valve or device being controlled and compares it to a provided setpoint to generate a setpoint for the plug and seat valve. The second control loop compares the measured position of the plug and seat valve to the second setpoint to generate a correction signal to accurately position the plug and seat valve. By employing first and second control loops, the accuracy and responsiveness to which the control valve is positioned is improved.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for quantifying the presence of extracellular LBP in body fluids including blood in a subject comprising conducting an LBP immunoassay on plasma obtained from said subject.

Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing viscous fluids includes a turntable rotatable around an axis of rotation. A plurality of pumps are attached to and distributed around the axis of the turntable. The pumps each have a connector for releasably connecting a fluid package thereto for dispensing fluid therefrom and have associated first positioning members. A plurality of removable rigid holders is adapted to receive a flexible fluid package therein in a predetermined position. The holders include second positioning members adapted to coact with the first positioning members to enable placement of the holders onto the turntable such that the package received therein is connected to the respective connector.
Abstract: An apparatus for retarding an increase in braking torque associated with connecting an electrical consumer to a power supply of a drive system of a vehicle such as an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The apparatus includes a generator operatively connected to the drive engine. The generator serves to supply one or more electrical consumers. The apparatus also includes a control system which causes the generator to subject the drive engine to a slowly increasing braking torque during engagement of one or more electrical consumers to thereby provide time for performance of an ignition or filling intervention to ensure the increased load of the added consumer(s) does not cause undesirable effects in engine performance.
Abstract: Disclosed are novel hybrid fusion proteins comprising at their amino terminus, bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein or a biologically active fragment thereof and, at their carboxy terminus, at least one immunoglobulin heavy chain constant domain useful in treating bacterial infection. Also disclosed are DNA sequences encoding such proteins, recombinant methods for production of the proteins, and pharmaceutical preparations containing the recombinant products.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for folding a single sheet of paper into a booklet. The method includes depositing adhesive along a linear path on the single sheet of paper and folding the sheet by making a plurality of folds parallel to a first direction, thereby forming a plurality of interconnected panels. The lateral edges of the panels are cut off so that the panels are no longer interconnected. A fold is made along a line coincident with the linear path to form the booklet. The booklet may be further folded with close folds to obtain a compact outsert. Apparatus for performing the folding patterns is also provided.
Abstract: A loading dock seal includes a low-profile backer that is vertically adjustable relative to a wall-mounted bracket to facilitate the installation of the seal. In some embodiments the bracket is generally U-shaped with a turned-in lip on one leg of the U-shape. The backer, to which a compressible foam pad is attached, is similarly U-shaped to nest within the bracket. During installation of the seal, the turned-in lip restrains the backer horizontally, yet allows the backer to be adjusted vertically to properly position the seal. Once properly adjusted, an added fastener further fixes the backer to the bracket, so that the seal is fixed both horizontally and vertically. In some embodiments, the low profile of the backer is achieved by forming the both the backer and the bracket out of sheet metal. The backer includes elongated channels or slots for bolt head clearance to accommodate anchor bolts that connect the bracket to a wall.
Abstract: A breakfast cereal dispensing product may be provided with a product package, a breakfast cereal product attached to the product package, and a breakfast cereal dispenser attached to the product package. The breakfast cereal product may include a cereal box having breakfast cereal disposed therein. The breakfast cereal dispenser may include a container having a main chamber that is sized to hold a plurality of pieces of breakfast cereal and a dispensing structure having a dispensing chamber and a dispensing chamber opening. The dispensing structure may be provided with a movable member that is movable between a closed position in which the movable member closes the dispensing chamber opening and an open position in which the dispensing chamber opening is not closed by the movable member and a passageway that couples the main chamber to the dispensing chamber. The passageway may be sized to allow pieces of breakfast cereal to pass between the main chamber and the dispensing chamber.

The intermediate part is braked with a braking torque sufficient to lock the intermediate part in each return movement of the input part to its neutral position.
Abstract: A cryptographically secure random number generating system includes a random number generator for generating random numbers, an encryption engine, and a modulus offset unit. The random number generator has a valid output set consisting of M−1 random numbers, and an invalid output set including one invalid output value. The encryption engine is responsive to the random number and to the invalid output value, and operative to encrypt the random number to provide an encrypted random number, and further operative to encrypt the invalid output value to provide an encrypted invalid output value. The modulus offset unit includes: a sub-modulo for adding, in modulo M, the invalid output value to the encrypted random number to determine a sum; and a sub-modulo for subtracting, in modulo M, the encrypted invalid output value from the sum to determine a cryptographically secure random number.
