  • Patent number: 4916419
Abstract: A circuit breaker having a movable upper blade with a free floating pivot end. The operating mechanism is solidly connected to the upper blade. The contact force is generated by a contact spring which exerts an upward force on the lower blade. No other resilient force acts directly upon the upper blade. As the contacts separate, the force exerted on the upper blade is virtually eliminated, reducing substantially the resistance at the pivot end of the upper blade. The load terminal and pivot end of the upper blade provide a current path parallel to that of the load side flexible connector.

  • Patent number: 4906967
Abstract: An electronic circuit breaker having withstand capability. When the fault current exceeds the required withstand level, the mechanism force trips the circuit breaker. The forces generated by a blow-on contact loop are exerted on the various components of the operating mechanism, including the quick trip latch and secondary latch. As the fault current exceeds the required withstand level, the forces on the operating mechanism exceed the spring force holding together the quick trip latch and secondary latch. These two components rotate as one assembly during a trip operation initiated by energizing the trip coil. In the force trip operation, these two components separate unlatching the mechanism and opening the circuit breaker contacts.

  • Patent number: 4842028
Abstract: Apparatus for the automated transfer of contents between a rubber diaphragm port-type vial and a flexible, collapsible bag for medical solutions, which bag has at least one needle-pierceable access port. A double-pointed hollow needle is positioned so that the vial is held with its rubber diaphragm facing one pointed end of the needle and the medical solution bag is held with its needle-pierceable access port facing the other pointed end of the needle. Apparatus is provided for bringing the vial and bag into needle-penetrated relation, to provide flow communication therebetween through the hollow needle. Means are also provided for compressing the bag to force liquid from the bag into the vial, and for releasing the compression to allow the liquid to flow from the vial back to the bag. As a result of this, the original contents of the vial may be carried into the bag in automated manner.

  • Patent number: 4838429
Abstract: A flexible thermoplastic pouch having an easy-open tear strip means secured thereto is provided. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a tear strip is secured to an imperforate sidewall of a flexible pouch along two sawtooth securement lines arranged generally in the shape of an ellipse. The point where the two securement lines converge is give a W-shape, which provides two points of high stress concentration. When the user grasps and pulls the tear strip means, the securement lines rupture precisely at these two points of stress concentration and continue along the sawtooth securement lines, thereby providing the pouch with a dispensing opening of predetermined size, shape, and location. A sealing die apparatus for forming sawtooth, notched lines of securement between the tear strip means and the flexible pouch is alos disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4826482
Abstract: The present invention provides a system for measuring flow of a fluid through a line. In the system, a region of fluid along the line is isolated from pressure effects outside of the region. A source region contains a measurement gas in communication with the isolated region, such that the source means and the isolated region together define a fixed volume, and such that a change in volume of fluid in the isolated region produces a complementary change in the volume of the source means with a resulting change in the pressure of the measurement gas contained in the source region. Further provided is a reservoir in communication with the source means for containing a known volume of measurement gas, and means for pumping measurement gas from the reservoir. The pressure of the measurement gas in the reservoir and the source region is monitored. This pressure data is then analyzed to determine the volume of fluid in the isolated region.

  • Patent number: 4816019
Abstract: A system is provided for detecting the presence of an infiltration condition in a line delivering fluid to a patient. Stepping means subjects the fluid in the line to a negative pressure step. The pressure of the fluid is monitored, and processing means then determines whether an infiltration condition is present by determining whether the function of line pressure over time in response to the occurrence of a negative pressure step exhibits a relative slow return to the pre-step pressure, such relatively slow return being characteristic of the presence of infiltration.

  • Patent number: 4786800
Abstract: A system and method is provided for detecting the presence of drops in a fluid drop path, such as that in a medical infusion system, and for discriminating between signals resulting from true drops and signals resulting from aberrant fluid flow. A transducer generates a drop signal related to the presence of a drop in a fluid drop path. Also generated is a reference quantity related to the value of the drop signal in the absence of a drop. The deviation of the drop signal from the reference quantity is calculated, and is compared with first and second threshold values. The results of these two comparisons are then used to determined the presence or absence of a true drop.

  • Patent number: 4744845
Abstract: An apparatus for splicing film together is provided. The apparatus includes a first jaw and a second jaw, the jaws cooperating to clamp two film ends together. A heat sealer for sealing the two film ends together is located in the first jaw. A rotatable block is located in a second jaw. The rotatable block is rotatable to a cutting position and a sealing position. In the cutting position, a side of the rotatable block having a slot faces upwardly and contacts the film. In the sealing position a side of the rotatable block having a back up member faces upwardly and contacts the film. When the film is clamped between the jaws and the rotatable block and is in the cutting position, a portion of the block, and accordingly the film, extends outwardly from a horizontal plane defined between the jaws. Therefore, after the film is cut along the slot in the block and the block is rotated to the sealing position, the severed ends of the film overlap. A method of splicing film is also provided.
