Patent number: 5453146Abstract: A needle bar is made from a support member and a carrier. The needle bar can be made with a plurality of needle grooves. The bar is made by adhering the support member to the carrier. Then the support member is divided into a plurality of individual segments of predetermined length, after the support member is adhered to the carrier. Adjacent ones of the individual segments (a) can be spaced to form a gap narrower in width than the needle grooves, and (b) can have opposing edges shaped to form a concavity having a width equivalent to the needle grooves.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1994Date of Patent: September 26, 1995Assignee: Karl Mayer Textilmaschinenfabrik GmbHInventor: Rainer Kemper

Patent number: 5443981Abstract: A crude membrane fraction of leaf sheath tissue of a grass endophytically infected by A. typhinum is produced. The extract exhibits endoproteolytic activity in the presence of detergent or after methanol precipitation. This activity is optimal at 35.degree.-40.degree. C. and pH 10-11 and is exhibited only when a reductant is present. The activity is associated with a first gel electrophoresis band having apparent molecular weight of 205,000 daltons when said extract is electrophoresed without prior boiling; however, when said extract is boiled prior to electrophoresis, there results a band having apparent molecular weight of 34,000 daltons. This band gives rise to polyclonal rabbit antibodies which are not cross react with proteinase K. The preferred source of Acremonium typhinum is ATCC 74228.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1994Date of Patent: August 22, 1995Assignee: Rutgers, the State UniversityInventors: Faith C. Belanger, Jon T. Patent number: 5440902Abstract: A warp knitted fabric is formed with pile. The ground fabric is formed by a first ground lap with threads (11) forming stitches (18) with a separation of n wales (19), and a second ground lap with threads laid-in and running in the same direction. The pile is formed by a pile lap, in which each thread (12) forms stitches (18) with a separation of m wales (19). Herein, n is at least 1 and m is at least 0. In a process for the preparation of warp knitted fabric, the lay-in is so provided that the successive turn-around points of the lapping movement has a separation of approximately n+1 needle spaces. A warp knitting machine comprises a first ground guide bar (L2), a second ground guide bar (L1), a pile guide bar (L3) and a pile sinker bar (PB) with the appropriate displacement control arrangements (14 through 17) which operate in the manner of the foregoing displacement movements.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1994Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Assignee: Karl Mayer Textilmachinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Jakob Wieland, Herman Kraner

Patent number: 5437639Abstract: An inner cylindrical member has a pair of opposing axially extending tapered slots extending toward an end distal the other proximal end to which a needle is secured for blood collecting. A pair of tabs protrude from the distal end to permit the member sides at the distal end to be squeezed together. Temporary locking projections on the inner member sides at the distal end are engaged with locking holes on an outer nested concentric cylindrical member. The squeezing action releases the temporary locking engagement. Other projections and locking ramps are on the inner member at the proximal end for engaging the locking holes on the outer member. Guide channels are in the outer member inner wall engaged with the inner member proximal projections and ramps for guiding these elements as the outer member is axially displaced from a needle use mode overlying the inner member to a needle protection mode cantilevered from the inner member.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1994Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Inventor: Robert Malenchek

Patent number: 5431024Abstract: A pair of ice bodies each have a planar surface which are warmed to melt the surface. Then at least one of the surfaces is provided with a cavity engendered by the application of a dimension controlled heat source, suitably by engraving with a heated relief formed die-like tool having a metal engraving element of a given design. The engraving element is warmed above the ice melting temperature and brought into contact with a planar surface of the surface of the ice body so that the element melts away portions of the ice body in the area of the element and the melt water is simultaneously removed by gravity, a vacuum or by a blast of cold air. When the desired engraving depth has been attained, the planar surfaces of the ice bodies to be mated are wetted by warming and are pressed together and if needed, cooled to freeze the interface producing an assembled ice body with an internal engraving and a transparent seam.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1994Date of Patent: July 11, 1995Inventor: Josef Hobelsberger

Patent number: 5429319Abstract: A compensating thread brake useful, in particular, with warping creels. The thread brake has a rotatable roller whose circumference is at least partially surrounded by and drivable by thread. The roller is connected to the rotor of a turbine. A mechanical thread tension comparator by way of its setting member, influences a throttle in the path of the turbine inlet or outlet stream. The setting member may, preferably, be a throttle plate which regulates the inlet or outlet ports of turbine T. In this manner, the thread tension may be controlled without frictional load on the threads or the need to provide seals against oil or the like. Additionally, an eddy current brake can be provided for the nominal setting of the basic thread tension.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1993Date of Patent: July 4, 1995Assignee: Karl Mayer Textilmaschinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Bodgan Bogucki-Land, Peter Schmuck

Patent number: 5429161Abstract: The disclosure herein describes an apparatus for the measuring and positioning of cants and their subsequent feeding to a sawing station. A feed table is used for conveying the cants towards the station and includes a lateral guide against which each cant is positioned. A scanning device measures transverse distances across the planar faces of the cant at intervals during its travel on the feed table. The information is recorded by computer which, in turns, causes the cant to be clamped between live rolls after the scanning and positioned to provide optimum positioning and orientation of the cant relative to the sawing elements.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1993Date of Patent: July 4, 1995Assignee: Les Ateliers Benoit Allard, Inc.Inventor: Benoit Allard
