Abstract: A computer system including a first storage system connected to a first host computer, a second storage system connected to a second host computer and a third storage system connected to the first and second storage systems. The second storage system sets transfer setting before an occurrence of a failure, the transfer setting being provided with a dedicated storage area to be used for transferring data to the third storage system by asynchronous copy in response to a failure at the first host computer. Before the start of data transfer between the second storage system and third storage system to be executed after an occurrence of the failure, the second storage system checks the dedicated storage area, data transfer line and transfer setting information, and if an abnormal state is detected, this abnormal state is reported to the host computer as information attached to the transfer setting.
Abstract: In a system comprising a first storage system providing plural first logical volumes including real logical volume and a virtual logical volume with a host, a second storage system having a second logical volume, and a management computer, when the first storage system receives an access request to the virtual logical volume, it accesses a second logical volume associated with the virtual logical volume. In this system, when the management computer receives a request to guard one of the plural first logical volumes, it checks whether a target first logical volume of the request is a real logical volume or a virtual logical volume, in case of the virtual logical volume, generates and provides a possible at least one option to guard the virtual logical volume by considering a program for volume guard, which each of the first storage system and the second storage system has.
Abstract: The present invention provides a high-performance storage access environment to a user who moves around a wide area, while increasing the fault resistance of the system. A plurality of network storages (volumes) is assigned to the user. Then, at the occasion of logging in to a volume by the user, the volume that can be accessed with high performance from a position he made access is located. Addresses at a computer with which user makes access are associated with addresses of the volumes provided by a storage device in advance in an assigned volume management table so as to increase access performance. Then, a management server performs control so that the address of the volume associated with the user access position is returned as a response, at the time of logging in.
Abstract: A system and method for managing disk space in a thin-provisioned storage subsystem. If a number of free segments in a free segment pool at a storage subsystem is detected as below a desired minimum, one or more of the following is performed: selecting and adding logical devices (LDEVs) from an internal storage as free segments to the free segment pool, transitioning LDEVs to a virtual device (VDEV), and/or selecting and adding LDEVs from an external storage as free segments to the free segment pool. The transitioning includes identifying partially used or completely used LDEVs and transitioning these to the VDEV. Data migration may also occur by: selecting a source segment at a VDEV for migration, reading data from the source segment, writing the data to a target segment, the target segment being a free segment from the free segment pool, and assigning the target segment to the VDEV.
Abstract: For use in a system where a plurality of servers are connected to an external disk device, a method is provided for a server to boot an operating system from the external disk device. The method includes the steps of searching for the port of a network switch to which the server is connected; establishing a network to which only the server and a management server belong; sending a server information acquisition program from the management server to the server via a network boot operation; acquiring, by the server information acquisition program, unique information owned by the storage interface of the server for transfer to the management server; and setting, by the management server, a disk within the external disk device accessible from the server based on the unique information.
Abstract: A radio line is easily influenced in its nature by attenuation or reflection of an electromagnetic wave or the like and the surrounding environment. Due to this fact, a variation of the data transfer speed frequently occurs at the time of image streaming so as to become a hindrance to reproduction of an image at the receiving terminal. A distribution server is provided with a multiplexer for multiplexing information indicating the transmission start time for the image data and a switching unit for switching an image bit rate in response to a request from the receiving terminal. The receiving terminal uses information indicating a transmission start time for the image data, monitors the receiving bit rate and sends out a request for transmission of the most-suitable image bit rate in response to a comparison thereof.
Abstract: Provided is a technology in which: a request-source storage device provides a request-source server device with a storage area of a disk drive as at least one logical volume; the request-source server device determines, upon receiving a request to back up data stored in a first logical volume, whether a second logical volume which constitutes a copy pair with the first logical volume is present in the request-source storage device; the request-source server device requests, upon determining that the second logical volume is not present, the request-source storage device to produce the second logical volume; and the request-source server device transmits a request to execute a process to back up data stored in the existing or produced second logical volume to the backup storage device to the request-destination server device. Accordingly, data to be stored in a NAS not locally coupled to a backup device is appropriately backed up.
Abstract: A gas turbine includes a nozzle vane and a sealing unit engaged with the nozzle vane inside a turbine supplied with combustion gases produced by mixing and burning air for combustion and fuel. The nozzle vane and the sealing unit are disposed in a channel of the downward flowing combustion gases on the outlet side of a gas path. A plurality of engagement portions between the sealing unit and the nozzle vane are provided successively from the upstream side toward the downstream side in a direction of flow of the combustion gases, and a downstream one of the plurality of engagement portions has a contact interface formed in a direction across a turbine rotary shaft. A reduction in the thermal efficiency of the gas turbine can be suppressed.
Abstract: When data in the first primary volume is migrated to the second primary volume, an access request from the host to the primary volume is transferred to the second primary volume. Further, the second storage system stores write data received from the host and data of the first primary volume received from the storage system, into the second primary volume. Out of data stored in the second primary volume, the second storage system sends data determined by management information received from the first storage system, to the third storage system.
Abstract: The present invention provides a storage control subsystem that facilitates logical volume access management by a host. Before copying, the host instructs a disk array device to identify the states of target logical volumes and collect information in control memory, whereupon the disk array device reads information in the control memory and reports information relating to the target logical volumes to the host.
Abstract: A computer is used in a computer system including multiple physical storage areas for storing database data. The database includes component information having a reference item having plural value ranges. The database data is dividable according to value ranges of the reference item. The computer comprises an access frequency obtaining module and a data allocation module. The access frequency obtaining module obtains, for each value range of the reference item in the component information, an estimated access frequency for data of the component information. The data allocation module allocates, based on the obtained estimated access frequency, data of the component information divided according to the value ranges of the reference item to the physical storage areas to be stored.

Abstract: A hydraulic drive system comprises directional flow control valves (10a-f) for selectively supplying a hydraulic fluid from a first hydraulic pump (1a, 1b), inflow control valves (201-203) disposed respectively in branch lines (150A-C) branched from a supply line (100) for supplying a hydraulic fluid delivered from a second hydraulic pump (3a, 3b) to rod pushing-side chambers (5aA, 5bA, 6A, 7A) of hydraulic cylinders, a bypass flow control valve (204) disposed in a line (104) connecting the supply line (100) and a reservoir (2), and a controller (31) for computing control variables corresponding to operation command signals from control levers (32, 33) and controlling the inflow control valves (201-203) and the bypass flow control valve (204) in accordance with the computed control variables. Thus, the number of flow control valves and the length of piping required for their connection can be reduced, and a total pressure loss can be further reduced.
Abstract: A packet handler includes an interface circuit corresponding in one-to-one relation to each input/output port of a switch. A switch interface including a disconnection circuit and a distribution circuit controls the packet from each interface circuit to a corresponding input port and the packet from the output ports of the switch to each interface circuit. In a set of interface circuits, one redundant transmission path can be replaced arbitrarily with two non-redundant independent transmission paths. The packet communication system can thus accommodate redundant transmission paths and non-redundant transmission paths in an arbitrary ratio.
Abstract: A disk array system, upon detecting a failure in any data disk from among a plurality of data disks providing one or more RAID groups, conducting a correction copy to any spare disk, using one or more other data disks belonging to the same RAID group as the data disk causing the failure. When the data disk causing the failure has been replaced with a new data disk, the disk array system alters the management so that the data disk can be managed as a spare disk, and the spare disk can be managed as a data disk.
Abstract: A charge control electrode emitting photoelectrons is disposed just above a wafer (sample) in parallel thereto, and the electrode has a through hole so that ultraviolet light can be irradiated to the wafer through the charge control electrode. Specifically, a metal plate which is formed in mesh or includes one or plural holes is used as the charge control electrode. By disposing the charge control electrode just above the sample in parallel thereto, when negative voltage is applied to the electrode, electric field approximately perpendicular to the wafer is generated. Therefore, photoelectrons are efficiently absorbed in the wafer. Also, by using the charge control electrode having approximately the same size as that of the wafer, charges on a whole surface of the wafer can be removed collectively and uniformly. Therefore, time required for the process can be reduced.

Abstract: Computer systems having a plurality of storage systems could not detect addition of storage systems or configuration changes thereof and automatically redistribute existing volumes based on “hints” provided when the volumes were created. A management computer, which is connected via a network to storage systems having volumes connected via a network to a host computer and which stores data used by the host computer, keeps correspondences between levels indicating specific performances of volumes and storage system characteristics indicating performances of the storage systems. From a first storage system, a level is obtained indicating a performance of a volume of the first storage system allocated to the host computer. The storage system characteristics of the first storage system corresponding to the obtained level indicating the performance of the volume, and storage system characteristics of another storage system are referenced, and the performances of the volumes of the storage systems are compared.
Abstract: A centrifugal separator is configured such that a switching unit adapted to be brought into electrical conduction or electrical nonconduction is electrically connected in a drive power supply line between a motor drive circuit of a control unit and a motor winding wire, and that the switching unit is controlled to be brought into nonconduction when a door is opened.
Abstract: A vendor system acquires information from the user system regarding hardware used in the user system and software installed in the user system. The vendor system constructs a test environment based on the information. Subsequently, the vendor system examines operations of the user system updated by a software-updating patch in the test environment to determine whether the user system operates normally in the test environment. If normal operations are verified, the vendor system transmits the software-updating patch to the user system. The user system applies the software-updating patch to the software installed in the user system to update the user system. As a result, the user system can be easily updated by updating the software installed in the user computer through a network. In addition, after the software is updated, high reliability and high service level of the user system can be achieved.
Abstract: A resource distribution method capable of lending surplus resources among a plurality of services and reducing the maintenance cost of the surplus resources is provided. Computer resources in the standby system have a dead standby state in which at least an application is not installed. A plurality of services or a plurality of users share the computer resources in the standby system. As a result, improvement of the utilization factor of idle computer resources and server integration are implemented, and the cost required to maintain the computer resources is reduced. Furthermore, load prediction is conducted as regards individual services by using past operation history. Idle computer resources secured from services having surplus and maintained are thrown in according to a result of the prediction.
