Abstract: A machine includes a fixed guide (3) which longitudinally defines two work tops (P1 ,P2), the work tops supporting and guiding the edges (30a,40a) of leather articles (30,40) to be sewn together. As it moves following an arcuate path, the needle pierces the edges (30a,40a), located on the work tops (P1,P2). After a stitch is made, the needle and a rotating crochet (19) are shifted toward the machine structure, making the two edges of the leather articles move one step forward. After having left the edges of the leather articles (30,40), located on the work tops (P1,P2), the needle and the rotating crochet (19) rise and are shifted in the opposite direction up to their starting position. Two presser feet (15a,15b), situated beside the two work tops, at the back of the needle (14), press the edges of the leather articles (30,40), when the needle pierces them.
Abstract: A method for producing substantially spherical energetic compounds such as ammonium dinitramide (ADN) which minimizes the time during which the ADN is melted involves providing solid ADN, feeding the ADN at a controlled continuous rate to a heating means, melting the ADN, the melted ADN being fed continuously to a non-solvent cooling fluid maintained at a temperature below the temperature of solidification of the ADN, the cooling fluid agitated in a manner which promotes the formation of droplets of controlled size which solidify in the cooling fluid to produce substantially spherical ammonium dinitramide in a particle size corresponding to the droplet size.
Abstract: According to a method for improving certain functional characteristics of the human body, a wave is generated with a shape that is asymmetric with respect to a basic line, and with predetermined frequency and amplitude. A number of waves are grouped into pulse trains (1), with predetermined time gaps between one train and the following one. The pulse trains are in turn grouped into timely separated predetermined sequences that are applied to the human body or to a part thereof. The pulse train sequences provoke in the body a sequence of stimuli that lead to improvement of certain functional characteristics of the body.
Abstract: Color image generation systems are disclosed for the reproduction of real or virtual, two-dimenional or three-dimensional, color, or monochrome images and their applications, in particular for television or video applications, and printing applications. Integrated-optical structures are used on a mount, in particular a substrate. An image is generated by deflecting color light beams generated into a viewing space, which deflection is effected in synchronism with color setting and intensity- or amplitude modulation of the light. All electronic and optical assemblies for color image generation may be integrated on a mount either monolithically or in hybrid fashion. The color generation system may be implemented as an encased module.

Abstract: A seat part is supported at the upper rails of rail arrangements which are arranged at both longitudinal sides of the seat and which comprise, in addition to an upper rail, a lower rail which receives the upper rail in a longitudinally displaceable manner. A locking device which can be disengaged from a row of teeth of each lower rail for the purpose of longitudinal displacement of the seat is arranged at the upper rails. The locking device has a release device which is coupled with toothed arms at swivelably supported locking levers, which toothed arms are spring-loaded in the locking direction. The release device has a two-part release lever formed of a swivelably supported actuating lever and a grip bar or actuating stirrup.

Abstract: A method is provided for determining edge positions by evaluating digitized electrical signals which are obtained when scanning at least one light-dark structure by means of photoreceivers. The method is characterized in that the regions of four adjacent photoreceivers (i; i+1; i+2; i+3), in the middle of which is located an edge to be determined, are first determined from the signals Y.sub.i, in that the type of edge, light edge, dark edge or dark-light edge or white-black transition or black-white transition is then determined from the signals Y.sub.i, in that a value Mi is formed from the signals of the first two photoreceivers (i; i+1) in such a way that Mi is the extreme of Y.sub.i and Y.sub.i+1 to be expected for the determined type of edge, in that a value Ma is formed from the signals of the two other photoreceivers (i+2; i+3) in such a way that Ma is the extreme of Y.sub.i+2 and Y.sub.
Abstract: An oscillator circuit is provided for stabilizing the amplitude of a HF oscillation of an audio signal. In such an oscillator circuit, an audio signal having a frequency in the range of 20 Hz . . . 20 kHz is coupled into the oscillator circuit, is modulated with a high frequency and is emitted in the form of an RF audio signal having a frequency of more than 2 MHz. Such an oscillator circuit is used for instance in an infrared transmitting unit, wherein a low frequency audio signal is transformed into a higher frequency infrared signal. The higher frequency audio signals are transmitted via infrared channel to an appropriate receiving unit--for instance to infrared head phones--which comprises a receiving unit having an appropriate demodulator and preferably also a stereo-decoder in order to reproduce the low frequency audio signals.
Abstract: An apparatus for the continuous crystallization of polyester material is described, which apparatus can likewise be used for the drying of granules. The apparatus operates to improve the residence behavior of the material and the process. This is achieved by a circular apparatus having a gas inlet and gas outlet and product entry and product outlet, The product entry and product outlet are arranged concentrically and parallel to the axis of the apparatus. A product outlet device is arranged so that it is axially displaceable.

Abstract: One sigmoid calibration curve is split into three parts of low concentration region represented by a high degree function, intermediate concentration region represented by an exponential function and high concentration region represented by a high degree function according to the present invention. The boundary condition of the adjacent two functions is set so that the two functions have an equal slope at the boundary point; thereby, regression functions of the calibration curves in respective regions are found. The number of standard samples for finding a calibration curve can be reduced while the calibration curve found is of high accuracy.
Abstract: An improved process for preparing a diaryl carbonate from a diaryl oxalate in a liquid phase by decarbonylation utilizes a reaction vessel composed of two or more reaction chambers which are connected in series. The process is composed of the steps of continuously introducing the diaryl oxalate and an organic phosphorus compound having a trivalent or pentavalent phosphorus atom and at least one carbon-phosphorus bonding into the first chamber and continuously recovering a reaction mixture mainly containing the diaryl carbonate from the last chamber under the condition that a mixture of the diaryl oxalate and the organic phosphorus compound is heated in the reaction chambers, while discharging carbon monoxide released from the mixture.

The through-holes in the metering device and in the closing disc are two in number so as to make use of the fact that in general circles of the metering device and closing disc intersect each other always at two separate points.
Abstract: A hydrodynamic bearing apparatus for use in a spindle motor. The bearing includes at least two hydrodynamic bearing sections for supporting a rotary member with respect to a fixed member, a hydrodynamic pressure generating mechanism, a space between the two hydrodynamic bearing sections, a lubricant, two capillary sealing sections, and a lubricant reservoir. In the hydrodynamic bearing apparatus, the hydrodynamic pressure generating mechanism is positioned at the hydrodynamic bearing sections, and the capillary sealing section of the two capillary sealing sections has a space capacity which allows for an increased amount of lubricant. The lubricant is moved by a predetermined amount in one direction by a differential pressure generated at the hydrodynamic bearing sections when the rotary member rotates.
Abstract: A polarizing beam-splitter comprises an optically isotropics crystalline substrate and a birefringent material layer made of an oriented polydiacetylene film formed on the optically isotropic crystalline substrate. A periodic grating photo-mask is formed in the birefringent material layer by an area that is changed into a different color phase when an ultra violet light is irradiated in a predetermined pattern on the birefringent material layer and by an area in which the color remains unchanged. The periodic grating photo-mask has a diffraction efficiency for the orientation of the oriented polydiacetylene film in the area that is changed into a different color phase which is lower than that in the area in which the color is unchanged.
Abstract: A dry analysis element for the quantitative analysis of an analyte contained in whole blood comprises a layer exhibiting volume filtration function and a detection layer. The layer exhibiting volume filtration function is made of a cloth selected from microfibrous cloths each having an average fiber diameter of from 0.1 to 10 .mu.m or a napped cloth having an average of from 1 to 30 .mu.m. In a first preferred embodiment, the layer exhibiting volume filtration function is composed of a non-woven cloth having a density of from 0.01 to 0.2 g/cm.sup.3 and made of fibers each having an average fiber diameter of from 0.2 to 10 .mu.m. In a second preferred embodiment, the layer exhibiting volume filtration function is composed of a napped cloth having a fiber density per cm.sup.2 of from 7.0.times.10.sup.3 to 8.2.times.10.sup.6, each of the napped fibers having an average diameter of from 1 to 30 microns and an average nap length of 0.5 to 5.0 mm.

Abstract: A tilt action valve assembly is disclosed which has a cup for mounting to a container, the cup holding a grommet seal which surrounds a valve stem. The grommet seal has a lower portion which surrounds a lower portion of the stem and which provides a seal for engagement with a valve stem seat. An upper portion of the grommet seal is bowed and thin walled to absorb stem displacement above the cup, thus limiting seal displacement below the cup. A lip locks the upper portion to the stem to assure co-movement therewith. Utilizing the valve assembly provides for a maximized opening between the stem seat and seal to optimize the flow of fluid through the stem.
Abstract: The concentration of an analyte in a sample liquid is determined on the basis of the optical density of a chemical analysis element spotted with the sample liquid according to a standard curve representing the relation between the concentration and the optical density of the analysis element which is obtained when the concentration is measured using an analysis element of a first lot. A plurality of first standard liquids containing the analyte in known levels are spotted onto analysis elements of a second lot, the concentrations of the analyte in the first standard liquids are determined according to the standard curve and a first calibration curve for correcting the concentrations of the analyte is prepared.
