  • Patent number: 4641513
Abstract: A method for cold rolling a tubular blank using a Pilger rolling mill, the tubular blank being rolled between a mandrel, lodged inside it, and the grooves of a pair of rolls, mounted within a stand which performs a back and forth motion along the axis of the tubular blank, the rolls being driven in rotation alternatively in one direction and in the other, in synchronism with the movements of the stand, a forward motion of the blank being done at least at proximity of the downstream neutral point. During at least a part of the return run of the stand, a holding back device, placed on the downstream side relative to the stand, prevents the displacement of the already rolled tubular blank along the rolling axis in the upstream direction during the return rolling run.

  • Patent number: 4636809
Abstract: The invention is an ink drop catcher for use in a drop marking device such as an ink jet printer. The catcher receives drops which are not to be deposited on the recording medium. The catcher includes a convoluted passage through which the drops pass to return to the ink supply. An electrode disposed along the convoluted passage senses the current flow created by the accumulation of the charges from a series of test drops. This current flow is used by phasing circuitry to insure that the drops are correctly charged at the time they are formed.

  • Patent number: 4631991
Abstract: A ratchet wrench for adjustment of scaffolding screw jacks. The wrench includes a head member having an asymmetrical passage of fixed dimension adapted to receive the scaffolding leg. Dog members or flippers are positioned adjacent the passage in the head and are retained for perpendicular pivotal rotation with respect to the head. Each flipper includes an engaging surface and a sloped relief surface. Gravity induces the downward rotation of the flippers permitting the driving engagement of the jack in a first direction while contact between the screw jack and sloped flipper relief surface urges the flipper upwardly facilitating the non-driving wrench return stroke. The flippers are symmetrically designed thereby facilitating the selective raising or lowering of the screw jack simply by positioning the wrench with the appropriate head surface facing upwardly.

  • Patent number: 4614225
Abstract: The process and the device according to the invention relate to the continuous casting of hollow bodies made of metals such as aluminum, copper, steels of all types or other metals or alloys. The process involves introducing the liquid metal into an annular space between an external mold and an internal mandrel, the liquid metal being subjected in the vicinity of the mandrel to the action of a moving magnetic field which drives it upward. This field is created by a magnetic rotor housed in the mandrel comprising a rotating part around which is arranged at least one spiral made of magnetized magnetic material made integral with the rotor by at least one collar. • Patent number: 4613935
Abstract: The invention employs an execution control unit consisting of a look up memory, three instruction registers and logic gates to control pipe line processing by an ALU. During such processing the sequential steps required to execute a program instruction are overlapped so that the ALU and its associated memory are always busy. The three instruction registers are provided to receive and retain up to three instructions which may be in process at a given time. The memory is preferably divided into a plurality of banks to improve the performance of the system by reducing the occurrence of a memory busy condition. To facilitate pipe lining an instruction format is employed having a fixed location for the data field which specifies the register to be used for address preparation.
