Abstract: A method and apparatus wherein a software scheduling agent resides on a communication network and/or client device, such as location-aware wireless communication appliances, television set top boxes, or other end user client devices is disclosed. The software scheduling agent is part of a probabilistic modeling system in which the scheduler operates to perform constrained random variation with selection. Digital content is generated, organized, and stored on the communication network and/or the client devices. An electronic digital content wrapper, which holds information in the form of data and metadata related to the digital content is associated with each item of digital content. Contextual profiles for each user and each item of digital content are established by the users and the network and maintained by a service provider on the communication network.

Abstract: A bird feeder having a rechargeable electrical power source and a solar energy system that collects solar energy, converts it into electrical energy, and uses the electrical energy to recharge the rechargeable electrical power source. The rechargeable electrical power source can be used to power a wide variety of electrical devices, such as microphones, radio receivers or transmitters, cameras, audio recording and playback devices, video recording and playback devices, loud speakers, lighting elements, timing devices, remote controls, motors, etc.
Abstract: An improved mailbox is provided which includes a security subassembly. The security subassembly includes an elongated sleeve which is fixed into position relative to a mailbox. It further includes a security door which is locked into position relative to the elongated sleeve. A mail slot is provided in the security door which allows for a mail carrier to deposit mail within the central cavity of the mailbox. A locking mechanism is provided to allow the security door to be moved between a normally closed condition and an open condition to allow the authorized user to remove mail from the central cavity of the mailbox.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for regulating the flow of rates of particulate matter. The invention includes a flow gate with a generally cylindrical body having a flow path defined there through. A stator member is provided in fixed position relative to the cylindrical body. The stator member has a plurality of alternating tapered vein portions and inlet portions. A rotor member is interfaced with the stator member. The rotor member has a plurality of alternating stock portions and outlet port portions. The rotary coupling is utilized to couple the rotor member and the stator member. A position actuator is provided for receiving at least one control input and producing a corresponding displacement of the rotor member. A mechanical coupling is provided between the position actuator and the rotor member.
Abstract: An asymmetric network system manages bandwidth allocation and configuration of remote devices in a broadband network. A modular architecture of the system permits independent scalability of upstream and downstream capacity separately for each of the upstream and downstream physical paths. Allocation of downstream bandwidth to requesting devices is made according to bandwidth utilization by other devices, bandwidth demand by the requesting remote device, class or grade of service by the requesting remote device or bandwidth guaranteed to other remote devices.

Abstract: An encrypted broadcast messaging system determines the management crypto-keys held by each selected subscriber device and not held by each excluded subscriber device of a group. The private message is decomposed into message-parts, one message-part per an excluded subscriber device, each message-part intended to be encrypted using each management crypto-key held by the selected subscriber devices and not held by the excluded subscriber device. Each message-part is encrypted using the intended management crypto-keys, and delivered to at least the selected subscriber devices, identifying the message-parts delivered and the message-parts necessary to re-compose the private message. Each received encrypted message-part is decrypted using the intended management crypto-key, and the necessary message-parts are chosen from which the private message is re-composed by combining in the selected subscriber devices.
Abstract: A well treatment tool is installed along the sucker rod string of a well, within the surrounding production tube string. The tool provides for the distribution of a treatment fluid (solvent, etc.) within the fluid being pumped or flowing from the well. The tool receives treatment fluid through the hollow sucker rod string, and distributes the fluid through a valve which is set at a predetermined pressure. When the treatment fluid pumped down the sucker rod string from the surface exceeds the predetermined opening pressure of the valve, the treatment fluid is distributed into the production tube string through one or more passages in the tool. The present tool may be used simultaneously with well production, with fluid (oil, etc.) rising up the production tube string, carrying the treatment fluid therewith. The treatment fluid is thus distributed throughout the local fluid processing system, including pipelines from the well, any initial treatment operations, and any storage tanks.
Abstract: A modular furniture system having planar vertical components having slots and tabs, and planar horizontal components having slots and tabs, wherein the vertical components and the horizontal components releasably and interlockingly mate with each other to form a plurality of different pieces of furniture.
Abstract: A cargo discharge railcar for comprising a generally rectangular base structure, a plurality of walls coupled to the base structure defining an enclosure for carrying cargo, a hopper portion coupled to the base structure, a discharge gate coupled to the hopper portion, a control system coupled to the discharge gate for opening and closing the discharge gate, a central processing unit for controlling the control system, and a global positioning system receiver electrically coupled to the central processing unit for receiving longitude and latitude data from a global positioning system transmitter orbiting the Earth. The discharge gate is adapted to be selectively opened and closed based in part upon the longitude and latitude of the cargo discharge railcar.

Abstract: The auger stand includes a vertical cavity (a “holding container”) adapted to receive the auger, and to hold it in a substantially vertical position which facilitates the connection and disconnection to and from a tractor. When the auger is held upright in a vertical position, a single operator may connect the boom assembly and the drive shaft of the auger assembly to appropriate connections carried by the tractor. This can be done without lifting the weight of the auger as would be necessary if the auger is placed in a horizontal position when disconnected. After use, the auger may be disconnected from the tractor and maintained in an upright position, relieving the operator from the task of having to lower the auger to the ground.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for facilitating education operations. A portable processor-based apparatus is provided which is used by a student and his or her parents. The portable device is adapted to releasably couple with a cradle which is maintained at least in the school environment. The portable unit may be coupled through the cradle to a school network. The portable unit may be utilized by the student, parents, and teacher to perform a number of specific school related activities including a presentation of course materials; the assignment, completion and return of homework assignments; the maintenance of school records; and digital communication between or among the student, teacher, and parents. The device preferably includes biometric security systems which limit the access to both the device and data maintained in the device or in the school network.
Abstract: A hand-held, electronic, bi-directional, wireless electronic communication device having a physical configuration which includes a relatively large, constantly visible display and an alphanumeric keyboard that can be concealed until needed.
Configuration parameters remotely managed by the network include device addresses (global and local), transmission credit values, upstream channel assignment and upstream transmit power level. Further, management of device configuration profiles and bandwidth allocation occurs through control and response packets respectively generated by the network and the remote devices according to network operating software located at both ends.
