  • Patent number: 4735048
Abstract: The hydraulic tool of this invention includes a pressure chamber into which a fluid is pumped. A pump chamber has an inlet port and outlet port at opposite ends thereof and a pump plunger extends into the chamber with an annular space around it. An annular shoulder is provided on either the chamber or the plunger and a seal ring or sleeve fits slidably on the other component to seal against the shoulder. A spring biases the seal ring against the shoulder, and when the pump is extended to force fluid out the outlet port, the pressure in the chamber augments the spring force. Then, when the rod is retracted to create a void, fluid in the reservoir forces the seal ring or sleeve away from the seat surface to enter the inlet port.

  • Patent number: 4735668
Abstract: We have disclosed a method of applying a plastic label to a container wherein a label is severed from the strip of polymer label material. A hot melt adhesive is applied to an area along the leading edge of the label and a solvent of the polymer is applied to an area along the trailing edge of said material to form a tacky solution. The label is then applied to a container so that when heat shrunk, the tacky solution solidifies and the hot melt adhesive crystalizes to release its grip on the container.

  • Patent number: 4732348
Abstract: In a fishing reel, there is a main drive shaft rotatably on the reel body. A separable input shaft, which may be selectively coupled to either end of the main drive shaft, has a handle free rotatable thereon. A drag disc is slidable on, but splined to the input shaft and a pressure member squeezed a friction member between the drag disc and the handle to adjust the torque that may be transmitted from the handle to the input shaft and, hence, the main drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4730782
Abstract: In a fishing reel, the drag stack includes the conventional star wheel and pressure plate that squeeze one or more friction member against the side of a rotatable member, such as the main gear to cause it to rotate with the pressure plate. However, instead of a washer of friction material, the friction member comprises small friction pads mounted on a carrier ring so as to be positioned symmetrically around the axis thereof, and to be engaged by the pressure plate. This leaves substantial areas of the pressure plate exposed for dissipation of heat.

  • Patent number: 4725018
Abstract: In a drive mechanism for a fishing reel in which the drive shaft has a radial drive wheel intermediate its ends. Straddling the drive wheel are rotatable discs carrying a main gear, and outboard of the radial discs are drive flanges carried on plunger sleeves. The plunger sleeves are axially slidable on the drive shaft but rotate therewith. The main drive shaft is threaded at both ends so that a drag adjustment nut may be threaded onto either end to push one of the plunger sleeves axially and compress friction washers between the main drive wheel and a plunger sleeve drive flange against opposite sides of one of the driven discs carrying the main gear.

  • Patent number: 4714515
Abstract: Cylindrical containers are rolled between two parallel belts which travel in opposite directions and engage diametrically opposite sides of the containers. One of the belts carries labels under the rolling containers so that the label is wrapped around it. The other belt moves at a somewhat greater velocity so that the container moves slowly downstream as they roll rapidly about their own axes. From the labeling belt, the drive belt continues to move the containers over a roll-on pad on which the label is pressed firmly in place.

  • Patent number: 4691732
Abstract: There is disclosed a device for dispensing a chemical wherein a stack of dry chemical tablets are contained within a receptacle. Sealing means are provided to seal around each tablet and the inner wall of the canister so that only the upper surface of the top tablet is exposed to the circulating water. The tablets are not exposed to the flowing water until the tablets above have been eroded away successively to provide leak paths around them.

  • Patent number: 4681139
Abstract: The disclosure is of a ball check valve comprising a valve body with a flow passageway completely through it. The flow passageway is counterbored at one end to form a conical seat and at the other end to form a radial shoulder. The valve member comprises an integral ball and stem of an elastomer. The stem is inserted through the valve passageway and stretched to function in the nature of a tension spring, with lateral extensions on the stem seated against the radial shoulder of the valve body.

  • Patent number: 4660592
Abstract: The disclosure is of a gate-like valve wherein a gate or carrier plate has upper and lower through bores movable into alignment with flow passages in the body. In the upper through bore is received a valve disc that is rotatable on the carrier between a closed position wherein it is in the plane of the gate to seal around the through bore and an open position wherein it is disposed along the axis of the through bore. A valve stem is coupled to the butterfly disc so that partial rotation of the stem operates the butterfly valve, and the stem is also engageable with the carrier plate so that when the stem is raised and lowered it raises and lowers the carrier plate to move the butterfly disc out of alignment with the flow passages.

  • Patent number: 4653308
Abstract: The disclosure is of a mechanical riveter wherein rivet-gripping jaws are pulled through a slideway by means of a pull rod. Each of a pair of links is pivoted between one of a pair of squeezable handles and a yoke carried on the pull rod. Means are provided to adjust the position of the yoke along the rod, thus fixing the length of the stroke and the mechanical advantage of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4653954
Abstract: Disclosed is apparatus for moving laterally a traffic control barrier having a plurality of pivotally linked sections. The transfer vehicle includes means for picking up the sections on one side and depositing them on the other side as it moves along the roadway. The vehicle has front and rear guide drums around which the sections are moved through the vehicle in an S-shaped path and there are means for varying the space between the axes of the guide drums to compensate for disparity in lengths of the lane dividers around a curved roadway.

  • Patent number: 4653556
Abstract: There is disclosed a log splitting machine comprising a rail with one or more chain saws near one end to sever fireplace lengths from the log. A hydraulic ram pushes the log from the other end to force the severed lengths through wedging knives. The hydraulic ram is mounted on a main carriage and, as it extends, a plunger carriage on the piston rod pushes against the log until, at the end of its stroke, a stop finger drops into a slot along the rail. This prevents the plunger carriage from returning along the rail, whereby retraction of the hydraulic ram pulls the cylinder carriage up behind the plunger carriage. Dogs pivoted on the sides of the rail are pivoted down by the passing carriage and then sprung back up to prevent its return. Then, after the saws sever two more lengths, the plunger is extended through a full stroke to split them and the stop finger drops into another slot in the rail, causing the cylinder carriage to be pulled up ahead of another set of pivoted dogs on retraction of the piston.

  • Patent number: 4645137
Abstract: A drag control for a spinning reel includes a disc that rotates with the main shaft. A primary drag plunger is moved against one side of the disc to establish the preset drag. The secondary drag plunger directly opposing the primary plunger is mounted on a cam follower, and a hand-operated cam moves the follower selectively toward or away from the disc. The cam is tapered from side to side so that a different range of movement will be imparted to the cam follower, depending upon the circumference of that portion of the cam engaged by the cam follower.

  • Patent number: 4632721
Abstract: The disclosure is of a labeling machine wherein a label transport drum carries one or more pairs of vacuum pads to grip the leading and trailing edges of a label. A knife carried directly on the drum acts with a stationary blade to sever each label from a continuous web. The vacuum pads are retracted as they pass the stationary blade, but when they carry a label past a glue roller, the vacuum pads are extended to press the label against the roller. If desired, two glue rollers may be employed, with different glues being applied to the leading and trailing edges of each label. In that case, one pad is retracted and the other extended at each glue roller.
