  • Patent number: 4662782
Abstract: In a situation where animals, such as beavers, attempt to flood lands by blocking culverts or constructing dams across waterways, a device is used to maintain a constant flow of water through the dam or culvert. An elongated pipe or culvert with a downwardly directed opening distant from the culvert or dam is used. On the end of the pipe closest to the culvert is a gate which prevents animals and debris from passing through but allows for the smaller elongated pipe to communicate with the culvert. The beaver instinctively attempts to dam the gate area rather than dam the underwater opening of the elongated pipe, and thus is unsuccessful in stopping the flow of water.

  • Patent number: 4661065
Abstract: The invention provides a denture liner composition for a composite denture based on a phosphonitrilic fluoroelastomer [poly(fluoroalkoxy)phosphazene] curable at atmospheric pressure at temperatures of about 100.degree. C. or less, conveniently by immersing the packed denture flask in a water bath at the appropriate temperature. The composition includes trimethacrylate and dimethacrylate cross-linking agents for increasing liner hardness and decreasing water sorption characteristics of the cured liner. The composition preferably further includes filler materials for increasing the hardness of the liner product. The composite denture is preferably prepared in a one-step process wherein the liner composition material of a single firmness is cured in situ with the denture base material.

  • Patent number: 4659067
Abstract: An implant for coxofemoral prosthesis comprises a slightly conical approximately straight tail that is to be engaged in the medullary cavity of the femur and a body carrying the lug or neck of a ball-and-socket joint, the body being connected to the tail by an upper part or head formed by at least one inclined projection intended to be applied against the surface of the femur cut after its resection at the level of the large trochanter. The implant is characterized in that the projection predominates over the anterior and posterior faces of the tail, and is greatly inclined from the side of the internal cortical wall to constitute a sliding shoe, allowing automatic placing of the implant on the inside the medullary canal.

  • Patent number: 4651372
Abstract: A plastics comb comprising a center wall and cell walls with normal height at both sides of the center wall is made-up of seveal parts. An injection-moulded center wall and injection moulded cell walls, which are produced separately are connected with each other. The diameter of the cell chamber at the bottom of the cell is larger than that of the cell opening. For breeding queens corresponding combs are provided with a center wall and with cell walls at one side thereof, which are removable from the center wall. The individual cells have cell bottoms, which are entirely or partly exchangeable, for example, as a locking element separate from the cell bottom.

  • Patent number: 4649653
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for the drying of textile material by way of a penetration with preheated air, wherein air is circulated and is preheated at the same time and is dehumidified as a result of its separation. In order to overcome the disadvantages of an independent separator, the air is accelerated and at the same time is directed toward a series of obstacles disposed at close distances from one another and set up at an oblique angle to the air's direction of movement. The part of the air passing through the spaces between the obstacles is guided past a collecting basin for liquid, from where the separated liquid is carried off. A special, perforated wall is disposed for this purpose at a small distance from the actual blower wall, whereby the space between the perforated wall and the actual blower wall leads into a collecting basin having a liquid outlet equipped with a valve.

  • Patent number: 4644777
Abstract: A device is disclosed for forming axial grooves in cylindrical workpieces. The device includes a first tool part having a receiver for the workpiece, and at least one lever pivotably mounted within the first tool part. The lever supports a grooving tool provided with a cutting edge facing the receiver. The lever also has a first bearing or supporting surface on the side opposite the cutting edge, against which one end of a clamping bolt abuts. The clamping bolt is driven by a second tool part rotatably supported on the first tool part so that it can pivot around the receiver axis.

  • Patent number: 4644726
Abstract: A steel placement assembly comprising a plurality of steel placement lock members which mate to form circular cavities for supporting and retaining steel reinforcing bars along their transverse length and intermediate their ends in a concrete structural member. Mated pairs of vertically and horizontally oriented steel placement lock members cooperate with vertically and horizontally oriented adjacent mated pairs and with spacer members to form structural members of diverse size. The steel placement lock members are provided with extensions which positively maintain the reinforcing steel a sufficient distance inside the face of the concrete. Steel end lock members provided over the ends of the reinforcing bars prevent lateral movement of the bars toward the concrete face.

  • Patent number: 4638441
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for measuring cell potentials in an aluminum potline having a plurality of cells connected in series. The system enables better control of the cells than the current method which calculates cell resistance on the basis of measured cell potentials and potline current but an assumed value of back e.m.f. The present invention uses corrected voltage measurements and provides a decentralized, current independent cell potential measuring system which converts simultaneously all cell potentials during a normal integration period (e.g. 1 second) into a value corresponding to the potline current when it is at its normal (set-point) value. Simultaneously, various possible back e.m.f. values are measured with the same current relationship and computations made of the error caused by the non-ohmic portion of the cell potential when the current deviates from its normal (set-point) value. Sudden changes in current enable correct values of back e.m.f. to be determined.

  • Patent number: 4635040
Abstract: A fire detecting system utilizing existing electrical wiring in conjunction with circuit protecting devices provided in a main panel box. Various sensors which sense the presence of a fire condition are directly affixed to plug receptacles or wall switches. These sensors activate a short circuit device or a controlled overload which is utilized to trip a circuit breaker and activate various visual or aural alarms. An alternative embodiment employs an encoded RF signal transmitted over the existing wiring, tripping the circuit breaker by an electromechanical device, thereby activating the aural and visual alarms.

  • Patent number: 4634960
Abstract: An automatic linear compression circuit for a telephone "handsfree" loudspeaker is provided. The circuit consists of a variable attenuator the level of attenuation of which is controlled by the input signal level. The input signal is passed through a positive peak detector to obtain a time averaged signal corresponding to the average positive peak values of the input signal and this time averaged signal is compared against a time increasing reference voltage. As long as the reference voltage is below the value of the time averaged signal a positive attenuator control signal is derived. This positive control signal keeps the attenuator portion of the circuit operative. In the attenuator the input voltage is sampled to a first capacitor. The first capacitor is subsequently connected to and disconnected from a second capacitor a number of times as long as the positive attenuator control signal is present.

  • Patent number: 4632165
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for cutting pairs of symmetrical bevels on opposite sides of halving joints used for windows, doors, and the like, and a groove-like recess on a third side of the workpiece. The first pair of bevels is cut on one side of the clamped workpiece by moving the cutting tool in a horizontal direction over and across the workpiece; then, the workpiece fastened within the clamping device is turned 180.degree. over the operation path of the grooving tool, which cuts the recess automatically during this turning operation. Subsequently, the tool is moved in the opposite direction into the starting position as it cuts the pair of bevels into the second, opposite side of the workpiece, and finally the workpiece is turned back into the starting position.

  • Patent number: 4632217
Abstract: A seat harness for mountain climbers is formed from a continuous length of woven fabric webbing having, at intervals, transverse slots formed therethrough by the weaving process. The leg loops of the harness are formed by passing the ends of the webbing through certain of its own slots. The leg loops are drawn snug while applying the harness; one size harness thus adapts to all leg sizes, avoiding the need for leg loop adjustment buckles. A chest harness formed of the same type webbing is also disclosed.
