  • Patent number: 8126664
Abstract: In order to detect, localize and interpret a partial discharge occurring in a partial discharge site along an electrical equipment, two measurement probes and a synchronization probe are installed along the electrical equipment. The measurement probes detect pulses travelling in the electrical equipment while the synchronization probe detects a phase angle in the electrical equipment and is usable for calibration purposes. A control unit receives the signals sensed by the probes and conditions them. Digital processing applied on the conditioned signals, involving their correlation, a time-frequency distribution and a form factor estimation, allows establishing a diagnosis indicating a detection of a partial discharge and its localization along the electrical equipment. A wideband magnetic probe may be provided for detecting the pulses traveling in the electrical equipment.

  • Patent number: 8122756
Abstract: An explosive and narcotics detection system detects the presence of trace particles of those materials that are adhering to surfaces. The particles are removed from the surface, transported and collected in a particle collection medium, and then provided to detection instrument. Narcotics and explosive particles are often bound tenaciously to the surface, and simple techniques, such as blowing air, will either remove only the largest particles or none at all. Techniques for the removal of narcotics and explosives particles are described which utilize an aerosol mixture of aerosol particles in a gas stream to impact and more efficiently remove the target narcotics and explosives particles from the surface.

  • Patent number: 8117909
Abstract: A system for an icing resistant sensor port assembly includes shaped and patterned features for resisting the formation and propagation of ice around a sensor port, such as for a pressure sensor in an aircraft fuel tank. Water may be present in fuel tanks due to condensation and other factors. The water, being heavier than fuel, such as jet fuel, sinks to the bottom of the tank and may be present around the sensor port. If the water completely fills the pressure port, it may damage the sensor. In various embodiments, an inlet assembly having a cone-shaped countersink, sharp edges that reduce surface area, anti-wetting coatings, and slots to allow fluid flow within the inlet assembly, among other features, may be used to help resist ice formation and propagation around a sensor port.

  • Patent number: 8117160
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to maintaining reference counts in a file system to track when a block is available to be freed. When a snapshot copy of a file is created, rather than copying all the blocks of the file for the snapshot copy, the snapshot inode is given pointers to the blocks of the file. Rather than updating the reference counts for all these blocks to indicate that they are now in use by more than one file, the update of reference counts for at least some of these blocks may be deferred until a later time.

  • Patent number: 8117250
Abstract: The invention suggests a novel pipeline FFT/IFFT architecture that not only produces time-domain samples (after IFFT) but also pushes time-domain samples into FFT in a time-based sequential order. This reduces external memory requirement for buffering the time-domain samples. Also the design is based on a mixed radix-2 and radix-22 algorithm aiming at reducing number of multipliers and adders. Compared with other FFT/IFFT design methodologies such as radix-4, it achieves the minimum multiplier use, the minimum adder use and the minimum operating memory use. On the other hand, the design architecture not only can support different FFT/IFFT size required by different VDSL2 profiles but also utilizing a novel pipeline control mechanism to reduce logic switching at low-speed profiles. This effectively further reduces the power consumption at lower profiles and enables our VDSL2 digital chipsets to compete with ADSL2+ systems in terms of power consumption.

  • Patent number: 8111740
Abstract: The present invention provides a cost-effective TEQ hardware architecture to support multiple VDSL2 profiles. It supports variable TEQ tap length programmable through firmware. Larger TEQ tap length at low-speed profiles is supported by the unique design without adding additional multipliers. The maximum number of TEQ taps supported is actually inversely proportional to the profile frequency. This perfectly meets the requirement to have longer TEQ for low-speed profile and shorter TEQ for high-speed profile.

  • Patent number: 8107407
Abstract: A system and method for use in a telecommunications network may utilize Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS), specifically, a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) or a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network may utilize MBMS and eHSPA technology. IP multicast connections directly between the eHSPA Node Bs and an IP address are utilized to reduce the amount of transport bearers that need to be established. Further, the RNC functionality for setting up an MBMS communication is divided between the eHSPA Node Bs and a legacy RNC, utilized as a CRNC. In particular, this arrangement enables the user plane to be effectively established from the enhanced node B, whilst still allowing the second RNC to have control of the control plane decisions. This therefore also allows the resources used in establishing the MBMS communication to be minimized.
