Abstract: A clamp for use in attaching items to an overhead flanged beam comprises a first jaw 10 and a second jaw 11. First ends 13 and 15 of the jaws are shaped for engagement respectively with the flanges of an overhead flanged beam. Second ends 16 and 17 of the jaws are pivotly interconnected by a pivot bolt 18. Attachment means in the form of a shackle 20 is attached to bolt 18. Attached to each jaw is a swivel 24 and the swivels 24 are threadedly interconnected by a screw threaded rod 27. When the rod 27 is rotated, the jaws 10 and 11 move towards or away from one another. The swivels 24 are connected to the jaws by bolts 26, so that the swivels and bar 27 are readily removable for maintenance or replacement.
Abstract: A plant growing frame for securing a number of form-stable growing medium blocks so that, after they are placed in the frame, they are mutually separated by air spaces running from under the bottom and up between and over the growing medium blocks to control root growth out of the blocks by root air pruning and thereby prevent root growth from one block to another. The frame includes a planar network of criss-crossing horizontally extending spaced double rib members defining a plurality of vertically extending open ended block-receiving openings for receiving the blocks therein and a plurality of air-passage forming openings. The space between the double rib members defines the block-receiving openings and the space between each rib of the double rib members defines the air passage forming openings. The air passage forming openings encircle each block receiving opening and separate each block receiving opening from all neighboring block receiving openings.
Abstract: In a driving device of the piston-flowmeter type, in particular for a proportioning pump, a distributor is mounted at one end of a piston cylinder for controlling the admission and discharge of fluid within two chambers formed respectively on each side of the piston. The distributor body is provided with circular flow passages and two pairs of valve-seats in cooperating relation with two seals of a two-position tubular valve. The valve has a central bore traversed by the piston rod and coupled to a resilient bistable mechanism for reversing the state of the valve and maintaining it in either of its two positions.

Abstract: An anaerobic reactor for treatment of waste water comprises a primary reactor or zone of the suspended growth type and a secondary reactor or zone of the fixed filter bed type disposed directly above and in liquid contact with the primary reactor. Liquid to be treated is fed continuously into the primary reactor and moves upwardly through the primary reactor, then through the filter bed and out via an outlet above the filter bed. Gas generated in the primary reactor moves upwardly through the liquids and through the filter bed, to cause vertical mixing throughout the zones and to keep the filter bed from clogging.
Abstract: Board game including a board provided with an annular path along which player's tokens may advance, the annular path being arranged concentrically about a central pivot axis and being divided into twelve equal segments each representing a respective one of twelve astrological house signs. A pair of segmented wheels are mounted for independent rotation about the central pivot axis and are arranged whereby the segmented portion of each wheel is visible. Each segmented wheel is divided into twelve equal segments, each of the segments of one wheel designating a respective one of twelve zodiac signs and the segments of the other wheel designating planet signs. An alignment indicator is associated with each segment of the wheels for indicating an operative scoring alignment between the wheel segments and the path segments.
Abstract: Disclosed are a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, A is a group of the formula ##STR2## (in which R.sub.3 is hydrogen or lower alkyl) or methylene, and R.sub.2 is hydrogen or a group of the formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.n COOH (in which n is an integer of 1 to 6) or a salt of the derivative, and preparation thereof. The compounds have an excellent aldose reductase inhibitory action.
Abstract: A composition for coloring bait which comprises (a) at least one biologically acceptable and palatable colorant; (b) a mordant for binding said colorant to live bait; (c) a surfactant or an acidulant; and (d) an aqueous carrier. A kit for coloring live bait to catch fish comprising (a), (b) and (c) of the composition also forms part of the invention.
Abstract: System for controlling the supply of utility services, such as electricity, gas, water, and oil, and other services, such as telephone, cable television, and the like to a consumer. The system includes one or more service supply control units for controlling the supply of the service to a consumer location over a predetermined time period. A timing device is connected to the supply control unit for setting the time period over which the supply control units supply the service to the consumer. A deactuating device is connected to the supply control units for effecting termination of the supply of the service upon expiry of the predetermined time period. An actuator card is provided for actuating the supply control units.
Abstract: A heat exchanger comprises a plurality of regularly corrugated fins placed one over another in layers at regular pitches in a back-to-back arrangement so as to form alternate wide and narrow fluid passage between the adjacent corrugated fins, and each having a plurality of small through holes, a plurality of collars formed in a staggered arrangement, and an annular area not having any small through hole and formed so as to surround the root of each collar; and pipes for passing a secondary fluid therethrough, each inserted through the collars of the layers of the corrugated fins. The height of the collar from the lower surface of the annular area corresponds to the pitch between the adjacent corrugated fins, and thereby the corrugated fins can be assembled at regular pitches simply by placing one over another. The pipes are expanded after being inserted through the collars so that the pipes are firmly and closely joined to the collars for satisfactory heat transmission between the fins and the pipes.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for determining the moisture content in a moist material in the form of particles or pieces, such as sand, gravel, dry mortar, coal, chips, and the like. In accordance with the invention, partly the cooling effect of the material on a measuring body (1, 35, 41, 50), performing in the material, at a temperature above the boiling point of the liquid, is recorded, the material and the measuring body moving in relation to each other, and partly the cooling effect of the material on a measuring body (2), performing in the material, at a temperature below the boiling point of the liquid, is recorded. The comparison between the two recordings results in a relation, which gives a measure as to the moisture content.
Abstract: An electrochromic device consists of the layers: tin-oxide-coated glass; rare earth diphthalocyanine (REDPC); membrane electrolyte; REDPC; tin-oxide-coated glass. The REDPC is the electrochromic layer and contains a mixture of rare earths as obtained from a natural deposit without being individually separated. The REDPC is preheated to purify it and then sublimed into position as the device is assembled.The device is driven by a controller which is limited to the voltage range +2V to -1V, whereby only the colors red, green and blue are obtainable, that is, although the REDPC at -1.5V would show purple, this is deliberately foregone to prolong its life.The REDPC may be further mixed with tin phthalocyanine chloride or ruthenium, iron, zinc or cobalt phthalocyanine.

Abstract: New 8-substituted nucleoside and purine derivatives of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents an amino group or an hydroxy group possibly in the corresponding keto tautomeric form, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or an amino group, R.sub.2 is hydrogen or a .beta.-D-ribofuranosyl radical wherein the primary hydroxy group and/or the two secondary hydroxy groups may be derivatized, R.sub.3 is an optionally substituted aryl or monocyclic heteroaryl radical and, X is --O-- or --S--. The new compounds have antihyperlipaemic activity.
Abstract: A hollow concrete block wall, and method of making same, are disclosed. A first course of hollow concrete blocks are laid end-to-end abutting relationship, a pair of separate redwood strips are placed on top of the wall, a second course of hollow concrete blocks are laid on the redwood strips, with the strips serving to align the second hollow concrete block course at the bottom surface thereof, a second pair of redwood strips are laid on top of the second course of blocks, and so forth until the wall is in place. Thereafter, pourable settable cementitious material is introduced into the hollow spaces inside the concrete blocks, as well as the area between each pair of redwood strips, and the cementitious material permitted to set. The redwood strips maintain the wall in the dry stack condition by a friction bond between the redwood strips and the concrete blocks until the cementitious material has set.
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for holding two ropes or corresponding elongated bodies together in a fixed relation to each other at a right angle or parallel to each other. The device is characterized in that it comprises two essentially identical halves (2, 11), each being provided with a recess (3, 12) into which the rope fits, and that these halves may be pressed together and be locked by means of snap locks (5, 6, 13 14) when pressed together, the axial or turning movement of the ropes in relation to each other being prevented by the force of friction, and according to a preferred embodiment, by pegs (4, 17) on the bottom of the recesses, and the separation of the ropes being prevented by the snap locks, and, according to a modification of the preferred embodiment, by a screw which extends through each of the halves of the device and thereinbetween through each of the ropes.
Abstract: A butterfly valve comprises a valve housing (1) with an axial passage (4) for a fluid medium; a valve seat in the form of a seat ring (8) which is displaceable within a slot (7) in the valve housing in a radial direction relative to the axial passage, the seat ring elastically deformable as to its shape in the radial direction; and a throttle (5) arranged so as to be pivotable about an axis of rotation (23) between an open position and a shut-off position, the throttle having a seal face (21) on its periphery (18) which is pressed against the seat ring when the throttle is in the shut-off position. The shape of the seal face is defined by lines of intersection between the seal face and planes of intersection coinciding with a center line (22) of the throttle.
Abstract: A meter dial illuminating device for illuminating a dial by means of a light incident upon a back surface thereof. The dial is formed of a light transmitting material except at a portion where characters and a scale are indicated. As a result, the front surface of the dial is illuminated by the light incident upon the back surface of the light guiding plate and transmitted therethrough.
