  • Patent number: 4760832
Abstract: A fuel metering and injection system for an internal combustion engine circulates fuel through a metering chamber (11) via valved fuel inlet and fuel outlet ports (25, 26) to prepare a metered quantity of fuel. Compressed gas is introduced into the metering chamber through a valved air inlet port (14) to displace the metered fuel and deliver it to the engine. Phasing of the valves is controlled to ensure that the fuel inlet and outlet valves (60, 61) are closed prior to opening of the air inlet valve (16), and that on completion of the injection phase residual gas in the metering chamber (11) is expelled through the fuel outlet port (26).

  • Patent number: 4759335
Abstract: A fuel injection method and apparatus for in-cylinder injection in an internal combustion engine. Compressed air is used to inject the fuel through an injection nozzle (43) particularly shaped so that different fuel spray patterns are produced at high and low fueling rates. At higher rates of fueling corresponding to higher engine loads the fuel spray pattern is narrower and penetrates further into the cylinder volume whereas at lower rates of fueling corresponding to lower engine loads the fuel spray pattern is wider, less penetrating and relatively more confined. By appropriate selection of nozzle shape the spatial distribution of the fuel spray droplets can be made to vary favorably over a range of engine loads.

  • Patent number: 4756329
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for injecting a metered product into a main circulation of liquid, comprising a metering piston (28) coupled to a stepped piston (11) whose motion results from the pressure of the main fluid in a known manner. The piston (28) interacts with a metering cylinder (10) which is in permanent communication with the lower part of the liquid outlet chamber (8). The mixture of the products is thus confined to the outlet of the device, while no leakproof sliding of a component on contact with either of the liquid and product is necessary, and this eliminates the risks of abrasion of the seals due to deposits on the sliding component. In addition, since the inlet chamber (6) for the main liquid is annular, it permits a filter (33) to be easily installed.

  • Patent number: 4753599
Abstract: An automotive steering assembly which has a steering pad maintained stationary independently of the steering wheel operation is disclosed. The assembly employs a sun and planetary gear system in transmission of rotary motion to the steering shaft. The steering wheel is rigidly attached to the steering shaft while the sun and planetary gear system contributes to maintenance of the orientation of the steering pad. In the sun and planetary gear system, the role of the sun portion is played by a timing belt whereas that of the planetary portion is played by a rotary gear wheel. The above timing belt and planetary gear wheel are adapted to be disengaged from each other upon entry of foreign matters including sand grains or the like.

  • Patent number: 4750621
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of sorting cutlery, comprising opto-electronic dynamic recognition and identification of the cutlery. The pieces of cutlery are brought forward in a longitudinal direction one by one behind each other on a moving conveyor belt (12). The movement of the belt is precision linked to a pulsator (13), which emits pulses with a frequency that is directly proportional to the speed of the belt. The pieces of cutlery are brought by the conveyor belt to pass one by one through an optical read-off unit (14) between a light source (32) and a bar (40) of photo-transistors (33) or light-conductors (38) which transmit light to photo-transistors. The bar extends at right angles to the direction of movement of the belt, so that it is partially shaded by the cutlery when this passes, whereupon the photo-transistors in the parts of the bar shaded at any moment are inactivated.
