  • Patent number: 8233021
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing the degradation of image quality due to banding in an image processing system by detection of both integrated intensity and peak intensity of a laser beam reflected from the polygon mirror facet(s) of a motor polygon assembly. A banding detector is adapted to enable measurement of peak intensity and integrated intensity of the laser beam(s) reflected from the polygon mirror facet(s). Polygon facet induced banding can be determined from the measurements and can be used for sorting/manufacturing raster output scanners and/or compensating for the induced banding.

  • Patent number: 8203118
Abstract: A chip-scale ion-trap mass spectrometer driven by a monolithic photodiode array and a method of fabricating the same. A high-voltage photovoltaic source is located in proximity to the ion-trap mass spectrometer structure. The high-voltage photovoltaic source includes monolithically fabricated and serially connected photodiodes. An external light source illuminates the photodiodes to generate a high voltage across the photodiode array. An RF voltage modulation is attained by modulating the light source at a desired RF frequency. The high-voltage photodiode array may be monolithically fabricated in association with the ion-trap mass spectrometer. The photodiode array requires a small area compared to the ion-trap mass spectrometer size as the spectrometer typically possess a very small capacitance and a low power consumption.

  • Patent number: 8143737
Abstract: A tubular housing includes at least one fixed helical vane formed onto the inner surfaces of the tubular housing in a spiral and adapted to direct fluid into a spiraled flow and focus fluid onto a fan blade assembly associated with an alternator system and located within the tubular housing before a system exhaust. A generator cone can be mounted near the center and front of the fan blade assembly facing fluid passing through the tubular housing. As fluid passes over the generator cone it experiences compression between the generator cone and housing resulting in increased pressure and velocity of the fluid, thereby increasing rotational speed of the generator blades and generator as the compressed, spiraled fluid passes through the blades and exits the tubular housing. The system can be used for fixed or mobile applications in water, wind and manually induced fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 8134733
Abstract: A system and method for configuring a pre-concatenation execution mode for an automated prepress process node. A set of prepress operations can be defined and a multi-part job moved from one prepress operation to next in a determined workflow execution path in response to receiving the multi-part job. Each individual part associated with the multi-part job can be processed as a single entity at each prepress operation. A concatenation node associated with the workflow execution path concatenates the individual processed job parts associated with the multi-part job into a single PDL entity. Such a single coherent approach to process the multi-part jobs before concatenation into the single PDL provides greater and easier flexibility in programming customization options.

  • Patent number: 8102629
Abstract: A method and system for measuring and compensating for a leakage current in a high voltage transformer. Such a method and/or system include the use of a primary winding and a secondary winding, which can be provided on a core of a soft-magnetic material. A current transformer can be placed about the leads to both the terminals of the primary winding. The current transformer can be utilized to reliably measure the leakage current flowing from the secondary winding to the primary winding through one or more amplifiers to a ground terminal. The leakage current flows back to the transformer secondary winding through a low-side current sense resistor. The total current monitor signal can be generated by the low-side current sense resistor and the leakage current measured by the current transformer is vector-subtracted from the total current monitor signal. The result is a current monitor signal fully representative of the high voltage transformer's actual load current.

  • Patent number: 8097074
Abstract: An air filtration system and method for the remediation of hydrazine from contaminated air. The system is provided in the form of a container with an inlet port and an outlet port containing absorbent pads or filters or wipes saturated with a solution of a dicarbonyl compound. As contaminated air passes through the container, hydrazine present within the air reacts with the dicarbonyl compound and becomes neutralized, thereby resulting in the exit of pure air from the container. The absorbent pads can also be used independently to remove hydrazine liquid spill.

  • Patent number: 8095481
Abstract: A method and system for automatically classifying a product description into a product type based on a classification system is disclosed. Real product descriptions representing a given product type can be compared with a pre-defined set of characteristics that are relevant to the classification system. The relevant information regarding the classification system is extracted from each of the real product descriptions. The extracted information can then be coalesced and transformed into a new set of classification rules for a new product type. The new classification rules can be used to automatically classify the product descriptions that represent the new product type. The classification system can be a rule based classification system and/or semantic web classification system.

  • Patent number: 8095376
Abstract: A automated method, system and computer program for ordering print products by electronic mail. An e-mail request for business cards or other print products, such as postcards or calendars, is generated by a user of an e-mail system and sent to a management system including a management program which, in response, causes the system to selectively retrieve additional information associated with the e-mail request from one or more databases. The management system then prepares the business card order, or other print product order, using the retrieved information. The databases may be internet accessible directory services or other types of databases which the management system can look up using the originating e-mail address contained in the e-mail request in order to retrieve the additional information. The print product order can be prepared by importing the additional information, such as print product, shipping, billing and/or approval information, into one or more templates.

  • Patent number: 8058976
Abstract: A security system includes a warning notification module adapted to recognize at least one of a wireless or audible signal. A door bell ringer or emergency transmission signal from a wireless transmitter can provide a recognition signal to a microprocessor in the security system via the warning notification module. The microprocessor retrieves dog barking sounds stored in memory and provides them to at least one of an amplifier or radio frequency transmitter after the microprocessor receives the recognition signal from the warning notification module. Dog barking sounds can be broadcasted using the wireless transmitter. Processing can be with a time delay after first receipt of the recognition signal. A random module can enable random retrieval of various dog barking sounds from memory for processing. A time out module can disable operation of the microprocessor at a set time after recognition signal receipt.

  • Patent number: 8054857
Abstract: Data-processing systems and methods are disclosed, including an I/O interface for managing the transfer of data between a processor and at least one memory. A processor can be associated with the I/O interface, such that the processor generically assembles a first or prior frame from among a plurality of frames, transmits the first or prior frame from among the plurality of frames over the I/O interface and thereafter processes and assembles a subsequent or second frame from among the plurality of frames while the first frame is transmitting, thereby providing enhanced flexibility and speed for the assembly and transmission of the plurality of frames across the I/O interface. The methods and systems disclosed also permit processor (i.e., software control) flexibility in managing the overall order and priority of frame transmission and protocol management, while enhancing hardware performance with respect to the sending of frames and control sequences without requiring real time interaction from the processor.
