Abstract: An acoustic formation logging tool includes a transmitter, a receiver, a tube wave absorber, and a digital signal processing section. The transmitter includes an electromagnetic actuator based on capacitive discharge through a coil, producing an intense magnetic pressure which causes an actuator to move into an oil-filled acoustic waveguide. The actuator includes a pusher plate with holes that reduces cavitation and is capable of operation at great depths commonly encountered in oil well logging. Pulse power and spectrum of the acoustic transmitter are sufficient to measure either reflections from distant geological structures or waves propagating through the formation near the borehole. A positive acoustic pulse and a symmetric negative acoustic pulse are generated by action of the actuator on the acoustic waveguide.

Abstract: A method for analyzing received wave signal data in an acoustic logging system that includes a logging tool adapted to be moved through a borehole in the earth and comprising a transmitter section and receiver section, wherein the transmitter section produces sonic waves at periodic intervals which are received as wave signal data by the receiver section. The method comprises the steps of processing the received wave signal data using Fourier Transform procedures, filtering the processed data using a Heisenberg filter procedure, using a Hilbert transform to refine the filtered data, and using the refined data to provide a phase velocity analysis.

Abstract: A device for use in laser surgical procedures for moving axially an optical fiber bundle that is connected at its proximal end to a source of laser energy. The distal end of the fiber bundle has a generally tapered configuration so that it is capable of penetrating soft tissue of membrane such as the myocardium or epicardium of a human heart during the surgical procedure. Various combinations of bundled optical fiber elements are disclosed which provide different tapered distal end configurations used for various surgical procedures.
Abstract: A nursing brassiere that provides added support and yet can be easily manipulated to provide nursing access is disclosed The brassiere has overlapping frontal portions each with a cup-like configuration for covering the wearer's breasts. The frontal portions are attached to a lower elastic or elastic type cut and sewn portion below the breasts which includes a wrap-around band. Along a lower outer border of each cup-like frontal portion is a relatively short arcuate wire member that provides breast support under normal wear conditions. When nursing takes place, a frontal portion is easily pulled aside to displace the supporting wire and expose the breast for the necessary nursing access.
Abstract: This invention relates to a game/hockey type puck which utilizes a friction reducing top and bottom surface to reduce the amount of friction and wear when the puck is used on non-ice playing surfaces. In addition a series of side, wing type, slots are provided which aerodynamically enhance the stability of the puck as it travels through the air when hit by a player. Two wing slots or a complete peripheral slot may be provided. The outer cylindrical surface of the puck is curved so that it easily falls over during playing and this curved surface can have several radiuses so that the extreme outermost portion of the curve on which the puck would roll is offset from the central plane of the puck to aid it in tipping over if it was rolling on end. The side friction reducing surfaces of the puck protrude slightly from the sides of the rubber type pucks so that the leading edge of the friction reducing surface is the first to contact and be effected by a variation in the surface quality of the playing surface.
Abstract: An earth drain comprising a core consisting of an elongated flexible web having on at least one surface thereof, and preferably on both surfaces, an array of discreet projections spaced transversely across the width of the web, and longitudinally in the lengthwise orientation of the web. The array of projections is interrupted by a plurality of elongated projection-free zones extending in the longitudinal direction of the web, and spaced transversely across the width of the web. A filter of sheet-like water permeable material encases the core, and is adapted to be maintained in spaced relationship to the web by the free ends of the projections thereon.
