  • Patent number: 6463668
Abstract: An apparatus for determining the location of a wall outlet on wallboard prior to the wallboard being permanently secured includes a body portion that is releasably secured to the outlet box and a plurality of outwardly facing marking pins that form divots in the wallboard when it is temporarily placed in position over the outlet box. After forming the divots and removing the wallboard, the apparatus is then replaced in the divots to show the location of the outlet box on the wallboard from the position of the markings. The apparatus can be traced to show a cutting line for forming an opening in the wallboard to accommodate the outlet box.

  • Patent number: 6331335
Abstract: A self-adhesive strap to hold wires or other components permanently using a self-adhesive backed, flexible high strength carrier member as the main component of wire strap or harness. The strap has adhesive on the opposite side of the carrier member to facilitate bonding to a substrate, such as a wall. The strap replaces mechanically retained wire clips as straps. To apply the self-adhesive wire strap, first the back liner is removed and the adhesive is attached to the substrate; then the larger piece of liner is removed using the extended tab and the wire is placed against adhesive; and finally the strap is folded against itself and pushed together, adhesive to adhesive.

  • Patent number: 6267116
Abstract: A method and system for use in treating a patient receiving any drug to optimize therapy and to prevent an adverse drug response. This system employs surrogate markers or indicators, including blood levels of drug, to determine the next required dose for a patient. Before surrogate markers are employed as a percent change in status, virtually any indicator can be used. Surrogate markers could include any measure the effectiveness of a drug's action. Given the effectiveness of the drug's action, relative to the surrogate markers, a change in drug dose is calculated by the system. Conversely, by employing this system, one could determine the expected result of a drug dose change on the surrogate markers.

  • Patent number: 5448482
Abstract: In a powered vehicle steering system which produces a steering reaction for controlling the lateral movement of the vehicle, the steering reaction including a yaw rate reaction component and a steering wheel damping component, when the vehicle operator is firmly holding the steering wheel or actually turning the steering wheel, the damping component is reduced so that the effort required for turning the steering wheel may be reduced, and the vehicle operator may turn the steering wheel without any substantial effort. Conversely, if the vehicle operator is not firmly holding the steering wheel, and the steering wheel is allowed to move freely, the damping component is increased so that the lateral movement of the vehicle may be stabilized even when the vehicle is subjected to disturbances such as crosswind. Thus, the stability of the lateral movement of the vehicle and the responsiveness of the vehicle steering system can be ensured at the same time.

  • Patent number: 5448481
Abstract: A steering angle of rear wheels are steered according to a deviation between an ideal yaw rate response and an actual yaw rate response to the given steering wheel input. By combining feedback control and feed forward control, immunity from external disturbances and lateral stability can be both ensured each at a high level over the entire range of vehicle speed. By appropriately selecting the transfer function of the control system, it is possible to achieve desired responsiveness and stability. Furthermore, the vehicle response in the range where the cornering force of tires tends to saturate can be improved, and it is therefore possible to neutralize the steering property over the entire vehicle speed range.

  • Patent number: 5407303
Abstract: Invention Patent concerning an "IMPROVEMENT TO REINFORCED SOIL STRUCTURES OF REINFORCED EARTH TYPE", formed through the association of: embankment soil 1 to an inner reinforced structure 2, which become limited by an outer, flexible embankment limiter made of concrete 3, and formed by premolded reinforced concrete panels 6. On inner faces of the embankment limiter are fixed, by means of joint elements 4, elements 5 constituting the reinforced structure 2. The elements 5 each including a high carbon steel individual bar 7 with a corrugated or grooved surface, and having mounted thereon, through pressing a plurality of anchorage discs 8 made of steel which is more ductil than of the bar. The discs are placed at regular and orthogonal intervals with relation to said steel bar 7, and the rear end of the bar has mounted thereon, through pressing, a joint element 4 which is adapted to be joined to corresponding outer facing 3 concrete panel 6.

  • Patent number: 5390948
Abstract: In an active vehicle suspension system employing a spring and a hydraulic actuator for supporting a wheel relative to a vehicle body, a control unit actuates the actuator so as to cancel the force applied by the spring force of the spring and a damping force applied by the hydraulic actuator. This damping force is typically produced by the flow resistance which the hydraulic oil encounters in the hydraulic circuit. This control action is carried out according to a signal obtained by processing an output of a displacement sensor between the wheel and the vehicle body with a first-order lead filter circuit. Thus, the control action is based on a readily available and highly responsive detection signal, an accurate and stable vibration control of the sprung mass of the vehicle or the vehicle body is made possible.

  • Patent number: 5385705
Abstract: Reusable core apparatus for a casting mold is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first core mechanism for being disposed in a casting cavity of the mold to define a first internal casting surface within the cavity, a second core mechanism for being disposed in the casting cavity to define a second internal casting surface in the casting cavity, and a securing mechanism for securing the first and second core mechanisms together in a predetermined engaging relationship within the casting cavity. The securing mechanism is adapted to maintain the first and second core mechanisms in the predetermined engaging relationship while an article is being cast in the mold and to release the first an second core mechanisms from the predetermined engaging relationship after the casting process so that the first and second core mechanisms may be directly and easily disengaged with each other and from a cast part so that the first and second core mechanisms may be reused in casting additional parts.
