Abstract: This disclosure describes novel compounds, [(1,2,3,4,5-pentaalkyl-2,4-cyclopentadien-1-yl)methyl]glycines, the preparation of the new compounds and their use as intermediates for the preparation of N-phosphonomethylglycine.
Abstract: The present invention provides a process for extracting pyridine- and quinolinedicarboxylic acids from aqueous media. The pyridine- and quinolinedicarboxylic acids are useful in the preparation of herbicidal 2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)nicotinate and quinoline-3-carboxylate compounds.
Abstract: A method for the rapid and reliable in vitro determination of the anticoccidial activity of chemotherapeutic agents. The invention involves incubating free-living sporozoites in a nutrient medium in the presence of the anticoccidial agent being assessed and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride. Living sporozoites reduce the above compound to the water-insoluble vivid-red formazan pigment but will not stain with trypan blue; dead sporozoites do not form this red pigment but will stain with trypan blue.
Abstract: There is provided a process for the manufacture of insecticidal 2-aryl-4-halopyrrole compounds via the in situ sequential oxidation, ring halogenation and side chain halogenation of an appropriate 2-aryl-1-methyl-2-pyrroline precursor.

Abstract: This invention relates to new insecticidal and synergistic miticidal compositions containing as essential active ingredients an arylpyrrolecarbonitrile or arylnitropyrrole and an arylpyrazolecarboxamide. The invention also relates to a method for protecting growing plants from infestation and attack by insects and plant mites comprising applying to the foliage and stems of said plants an insecticidally and miticidally effective amount of a composition containing a synergistic mixture of an arylpyrrolecarbonitrile or arylnitropyrrole and an arylpyrazolecarboxamide dispersed in an inert diluent, or sequentially applying to the foliage and stems of plants which are to be protected from attack by insects and plant mites, an arylpyrazolecarboxamide and a synergistically effective amount of an arylnitropyrrole or arylpyrrolecarbonitrile.
Abstract: There is provided a process for the manufacture of 2-alkoxymethylacrolein compounds via the reaction of an appropriate alcohol and acrolein in the presence of an acid and a trisubstituted amine to form an intermediate and the subsequent reaction of the intermediate with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid and a disubstituted amine.
Abstract: A composition containing a high concentration of a biologically active drug and a method for the use thereof to reduce vial breakage in a lyophilization process are disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention describes a novel compound, 2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2-acetic acid, its preparation and the preparation of related compounds, and the use of said compounds as intermediates for the preparation of N-phosphonomethylglycine.
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel 5-acyl, 23-acyl and 5,23-diacyl derivtaives of the LL-F28249 compounds. These LL-F28249 compounds (collectively) are isolates from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces cyaneogriseus subspecies noncyanogenus having deposit accession number NRRL 15773. The present 5-acyl and 5,23-diacyl compounds are prepared by selective acylation using acid chlorides or anhydrides in the presence of 4-dimethylaminopyridine. The 23-acyl compounds are prepared by selective acylation of the 5-O-silylated LL-F28249 compounds. These novel compounds have potent anthelmintic, insecticidal, ectoparasiticidal, nematicidal and acaricidal activity. Compositions containing these derivatives of LL-F28249 also are described herein.
Abstract: A method for the preparation of insecticidal arylpyrroles, and intermediates for the manufacture of insecticidal arylpyrroles, via a single step 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition process is provided.
Abstract: There are provided important pyrroline and glycine intermediates, methods for the preparation of these intermediates and their use in the manufacture of insecticidal, acaricidal and nematocidal arylpyrrole compounds. Illustrative of the pyrroline and glycine intermediates are compounds having the following structures: ##STR1## wherein A is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and W is CN, NO.sub.2 or CO.sub.2 R.sub.6.
