Abstract: This invention relates to proteins (e.g., peptides) that are capable of facilitating transport of an active agent through a human or animal gastro-intestinal tissue, and derivatives (e.g., fragments) and analogs thereof, and nucleotide sequences coding for said proteins and derivatives. The proteins of the invention have use in facilitating transport of active agents from the lumenal side of the GIT into the systemic blood system, and/or in targeting active agents to the GIT. Thus, for example, by binding (covalently or noncovalently) a protein of the invention to an orally administered drug, the drug can be targeted to specific receptor sites or transport pathways which are known to operate in the human gastrointestinal tract, thus facilitating its absorption into the systemic system.

Abstract: The present invention provides a verifier for use in conjunction with programs utilizing data type specific bytecodes for verifying the proper operation of the executable program prior to actual execution by a host processor. A verifier is provided which includes a virtual stack for temporarily storing stack information which parallels the typical stack operations required during the execution a bytecode program. The verifier also includes a stack snapshot storage structure having a snapshot directory and stack snapshot storage area for storing the state of the virtual stack at various points during program verification so as to assure proper stack manipulations by the source program. A two step source program verification process is provided for in which the source program is initially loaded into the verifier and a first pass source program evaluation is performed.

Abstract: A memory device with multiple clock domains. Separate clocks to different portions of the control circuitry create different clock domains. The different domains are sequentially turned on as needed to limit the power consumed. The turn on time of the domains is overlapped with the latency for the memory access to make the power control transparent to the user accessing the memory core. The memory device can dynamically switch between a fast and a slow clock depending upon the needed data bandwidth. The data bandwidth across the memory interface can be monitored by the memory controller, and when it drops below a certain threshold, a slower clock can be used. The clock speed can be dynamically increased as the bandwidth demand increases.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring optical data from a DVD in response to a request from a host. When a data request is issued, a portion of the request containing the target ID for the target data block is used by a comparator circuit to locate the target data block. Another portion of the request containing the number of data blocks requested is used by a monitoring circuit to monitor data block transfer from a DVD to a data buffer once the target data block is located. The monitoring circuit stops data transfer when all of the requested data blocks have been transferred. Each data block is transferred into a data buffer containing areas separated by pointers. In a scratch area of the data buffer, the data block is error corrected, error checked and descrambled.
Abstract: Voice messages are stored in both a user's voice mailbox in a voice mail system and an e-mail box in an e-mail system distinct from the voice mail system. When a voice message is stored in a user's voice mailbox in the voice mail system, a corresponding e-mail message is sent to and stored in an e-mail system with the voice message located in an attachment to the e-mail message. Information identifying the voice mail system and the voice mail message are included in a predefined portion of the email message, such as a particular field of the header. At predetermined times the user's voice mailbox and e-mail box are synchronized.
Abstract: A hinge that has a first mounting base for attachment to a first hinged object. The hinge also has first and second hinge members pivotally connected together. The first hinge member and the first base are configured and dimensioned for cooperatively positioning and aligning the first hinge member in a plurality of mounted positions along the base length. At least one first locking member is associated with the first hinge member and the first base for locking the first hinge member to the first base in one of the mounted positions. The hinge may also be segmented. A positioning tool may be connected to at least the first base with an attachment portion and configured for positioning the first base and attachment portion on a first hinged object at a predetermined distance from the second hinge member.
Abstract: 2-Cyclopenten-1-one and its derivatives comprising the cyclopentenone nucleus as inhibitors of the NF-kB factor, with anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative-immuno-suppressive, cytoprotective and antiviral activity, the substituents being selected among the ones which do not affect NF-kB inhibitory activity.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for removing trace contaminants from a gas stream or flue gas. In one embodiment, the present invention an apparatus for removing a trace contaminant from a gas stream, comprising a gas duct configured to receive a gas stream comprising a trace contaminant; a plurality of substrates disposed within the gas duct; a trace contaminant sorbent disposed on at least a portion of each of the substrates; an isolation device for separating the portion of each of the substrates from the gas stream; and a regenerator for regenerating the trace contaminant sorbent. In another embodiment, the present invention provides a method for removing a trace contaminant from a gas stream.
Abstract: An improved method for accurately and correctly encoding and printing complete checks on blank paper sheets from graphic check images. The method includes inputting into a computer a graphic image of a check. Scanning the graphic image, in computer memory, and identifying the MICR character codes with their locations. Printing said MICR codes with magnetic ink in MICR fonts in a designated “clear band”. Reformatting the scanned graphic image with the MICR images deleted and printing the reformatted graphic image above the “clear band” to provide a negotiable check instrument.

Abstract: An architecture for robot intelligence enables a robot to learn new behaviors and create new behavior sequences autonomously and interact with a dynamically changing environment. Sensory information is mapped onto a Sensory Ego-Sphere (SES) that rapidly identifies important changes in the environment and functions much like short term memory. Behaviors are stored in a DBAM that creates an active map from the robot's current state to a goal state and functions much like long term memory. A dream state converts recent activities stored in the SES and creates or modifies behaviors in the DBAM.
