  • Patent number: 4922661
Abstract: A water stop for a window having improved resistance to the ingress of water due to rain or other precipitation regardless of the opening arrangement of the window. The stop consists of a low vertical wall member which extends parallel to and behind the outer sliding window pane or panes and which rises vertically from the sill to form a water barrier to stop any water migration across the sill.

  • Patent number: 4892010
Abstract: A sealed rotary transmission device comprises a control shaft and a receiver shaft parallel to and spaced from the control shaft. A bellows surrounds the receiver shaft, and has one end fixed in a sealed way to a casing of the device. The device also includes a transfer member constrained to move parallel to a plane perpendicular to the receiver shaft. The other end of the bellows is fixed to this transfer member in a sealed way. On each of the control and receiver shafts is a respective crank, eccentric to its axis by the same distance. These cranks are coupled to the transfer member and spaced by the same distance as the shafts. This enables circular translation of the transfer member.

  • Patent number: 4867931
Abstract: Fiber reinforced hollow microspheres made from dispersed particle film forming compositions including fibers, dispersed particles, a binder, a film stabilizing agent, a dispersing agent and a continuous liquid phase. Porous and non-porous fiber reinforced hollow microspheres can be made. The fiber reinforced hollow microspheres have walls with voids which are interconnected to each other and to the inner and outer wall surfaces, and the fiber reinforced hollow microspheres can be used as membrane substrates in selective separation processes and in biotech processes. The fiber reinforced hollow microspheres can be used as supports for catalysts and as enclosures for catalysts, adsorbents and absorbents. The fiber reinforced hollow microspheres can also be used as filler materials and as proppants for increasing gas recovery from gas wells.

  • Patent number: 4843847
Abstract: A mechanically amplified electroacoustic transducer system comprising an electroacoustic transducer having a vibrating element and an amplifier rod forming a probe extending from the transducer and in acoustically coupling contact with the vibrating element over a relatively small region thereof. The probe has a length which is approximately equal to the quarter wavelength or a multiple of the quarter wavelength of the acoustical energy generated by the transducer, the exact length of the probe being selected to provide optimum output from the system at a selected operation frequency of the transducer.

  • Patent number: 4828565
Abstract: A cotyloidal component for a non-cemented hip prosthesis comprises a hemispherical titanium dome member and a cup of polymer material which is engaged therein to form a friction lining and to receive the spherical head of a femoral component. The titanium dome member comprises a first zone in the form of a portion of a sphere which is angularly displaced with respect to the dome member to be tangential to the equatorial edge and to bear against the roof part of the acetabulum. Disposed in projecting relationship in the zone are two stud portions for the passage therethrough of screws provided to engage into the roof part of the acetabulum and form a primary anchoring means. The zone is covered with a covering of porous titanium capable of being invaded by growing spongy bone to form a secondary anchoring. The second zone is smooth and comprises slots along meridians of the dome member to afford a capacity for elastic deformation comparable to that of the acetabulum in the region of the horns thereof.

  • Patent number: 4815917
Abstract: A bin sorter divided by vertical or inclined parallel walls into a plurality of bins, each having a bin floor which can be lowered to a lumber discharge station and a series of rotatable gates extending from the bottom of each bin wall and functioning to control the discharge of lumber from the individual bins.

  • Patent number: 4793980
Abstract: Hollow porous microspheres are used as substrates and containers for catalyst to make microsphere catalysts. The hollow porous microspheres are made from dispersed particle compositions. The microspheres have a single central cavity, have substantially uniform diameters and substantially uniform wall thickness and the walls of the microspheres have substantially uniform void content, i.e., interconnecting voids, and have substantially uniform distribution of interconnecting voids. The interconnecting voids in the walls of the microspheres are continuous and extend from the outer wall surface of the microsphere to the inner wall surface of the microsphere. The microsphere catalysts are prepared by coating or impregnating the hollow porous microspheres with a catalyst or by applying a catalyst support to the microspheres and then coating or impregnating the microspheres and catalyst support with a catalyst.

  • Patent number: 4785739
Abstract: In a tracked transportation system independent cars are drawn along by a common cable. A car comprises a rolling chassis with a cabin suspended above the chassis by a set of chains. The chains are coupled to a shaft forming apparatus for weighing the cabin and connected to an assembly for gripping the cable. The coupling between the chains and the gripping assembly can be released by a trigger device fixed to the track and operated by remote control to lower the cabin relative to the chassis and so achieve emergency braking.
