  • Patent number: 6174406
Abstract: Two surfaces are adhesively bonded together by providing on one of the surfaces a central, single point adhesive contact deposit and providing on one of the surfaces, adhesive extending from a central point deposit in a spoke-like array diagonally across substantially the entire surface. Also provided is the article obtained by the above method as well as the assembly used for bonding the two surfaces together. The surfaces are brought together, one on top of the other, with the adhesive located between the surfaces to cause the adhesive to spread out and cover the surfaces to thereby bond them together.

  • Patent number: 6115269
Abstract: A bipolar converter station for conversion between alternating current and high-voltage direct current comprises a first and a second active filter (AF11, AF12), each with its own piece of control equipment (CE11, CE12). The filters are intended for reduction of harmonics in a dc link, connected to the converter station, with a first and a second pole line (PC1, PC2), and each filter generates, in dependence on a sum of harmonic currents in the respective pole line, an influencing quantity (IF11, IF12) and supplies this to the dc link. The control equipment comprises frequency-selecting means (BP, CTR) which influence the frequency content of the respective influencing quantity to lie substantially within one of a first and a second of at least two predetermined, mutually non-overlapping frequency bands (FR1, FR2).

  • Patent number: 6115112
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for measuring distances through the atmosphere against a target through propagation time measuring. Measuring light signals are transmitted towards a target and light pulses reflected by the target are received. The distance measuring includes a coarse measuring procedure and a fine measuring procedure. During the coarse measuring procedure at least one time point is fixed after which the measuring signal from the target can be expected to appear. During the fine measuring procedure a number of measurements are performed. The signal information collection during the fine measuring procedure takes place in a matching time space after the time point fixed during the coarse measuring. Preferably, the measuring during the coarse measuring procedure takes place with one or a few measuring pulses and measuring during the fine measuring procedure with a number of measuring light pulses.

  • Patent number: 6109378
Abstract: A leg mechanism for moving a body comprising an upper arm pivotably connected to the body by a hip joint, and a lower arm pivotably connected to the opposite end of the upper arm by a knee joint. The lower end of the lower arm comprises a walk element for contacting a surface over which the body is moved. Between the upper arm and the body at the hip joint, and between the upper arm and the lower arm at the knee joint, respectively, there is an actuator for effecting the pivotal movement of the corresponding joint. At one of the joints there is, in addition to an active actuator, also a passive force-transmitting element arranged to transmit a change in a pivoting angle taking place at the joint under the effect of the active actuator and an external load. The passive force-transmitting element transforms the change into a force which is transmitted to a receiving actuator which effects a change in the position of the lower end of the lower arm to compensate for the change in the pivoting angle.

  • Patent number: 6102635
Abstract: A component made from a material of metal matrix composite, a so-called MMC material, is manufactured by High Speed Machining, so-called HSM machining, of a workpiece or blank of MMC material to provide a predetermined shape. HSM machining is characterized in that the cutting tool operates at a very high speed in relation to the machined work piece, especially as compared to what is normally the case when using conventional machining techniques.

  • Patent number: 6086546
Abstract: An endometrial sampler has an outer catheter and an inner plunger slidable within the catheter. The catheter has a coaxial opening at its tip and two side openings located diametrically opposite one another close to the tip, the side openings being elongate along the axis of the catheter. The tip of the plunger projects into the tip opening to form a smooth surface to the sampler. An O-ring seal on the plunger is located rearwardly of the side openings so that suction is applied to both the side openings and the tip opening when the plunger is pulled rearwardly.

  • Patent number: 6068012
Abstract: A process for monitoring and controlling an aqueous system. At least one performance parameter relating to conditions within the aqueous system is selected. A value of the at least one performance parameter is measured to serve as a baseline value. A capacity of the aqueous system is determined and flow rates of water into and out of the system are measured and monitored. The value of the at least one performance parameter is measured and compared the value to the baseline for the performance parameter. Flow rates of water into and out of the system are factored in. At least one controllable variable within the aqueous system is altered based upon a deviation of the value of the at least one performance parameter from the baseline value.

  • Patent number: 5974174
Abstract: In a picture-information processing apparatus, information of an edge in a picture is generated from information of luminances in the picture. Data of a mask corresponding to the edge is generated from the information of the edge. Information of feature points on an equal-luminance line in the picture is generated from the information of the luminances in the picture. The equal-luminance line is composed of segments extending between the feature points. A decision is made as to whether or not each of the segments of the equal-luminance line agrees with an edge line segment in response to the data of the mask and the information of the feature points. An edge decision signal is generated which represents the result of the decision. The edge decision signal is added to the information of the feature points.

  • Patent number: 5909039
Abstract: An IGBT comprises a drain, a highly doped p-type substrate layer, a highly doped n-type buffer layer, a drift layer, a p-type base layer, a highly doped n-type source region layer and a source electrode. A trench is etched in the base layer and an insulating layer with a gate electrode thereon is arranged on the base layer from the source region layer to the drift layer for the creation of a conducting inversion channel there. A contact portion is provided vertically separated from the source region layer and has the source electrode applied thereon for collecting holes injected from the substrate layer to the drift layer at a vertical distance from the source region layer.

  • Patent number: RE37386
Abstract: A two component type polyurethane adhesive is provided for fiberglass reinforced plastics which requires no cleaning, preparation or treatment of the surface, and the like. The curative component is a nitrogen-free liquid polyether or polyester in an amount such that in association with a urethane prepolymer component containing free NCO groups, the ratio of the free NCO groups in the prepolymer component to the OH groups in said curative component is at least 1.2 and desirably at least 1.35. Such high NCO/OH ratios have unexpectedly been found to provide good adhesion and especially good humidity adhesion and peel strength adhesion to fiberglass reinforced plastics or metal surfaces which are free from any surface treatment.
