  • Patent number: 8195919
Abstract: Determining an effective address of a memory with a three-operand add operation in single execution cycle of a multithreaded processor that can access both segmented memory and non-segmented memory. During that cycle, the processor determines whether a memory segment base is zero. If the segment base is zero, the processor can access a memory location at the effective address without adding the segment base. If the segment base is not zero, such as when executing legacy code, the processor consumes another cycle to add the segment base to the effective address. Similarly, the processor consumes another cycle if the effective address or the linear address is misaligned. An integer execution unit that performs the three-operand add using a carry-save adder coupled to a carry look-ahead adder. If the segment base is not zero, the effective address is fed back through the integer execution unit to add the segment base.

  • Patent number: 8190864
Abstract: Advanced programmable interrupt control for a multithreaded multicore processor that supports software compatible with x86 processors. Embodiments provide interrupt control for increased threads with minimal additional hardware by including in each processor core, a core advanced interrupt controller (core APIC) configured to determine a lowest priority thread of its corresponding processor core. Each core APIC reports its lowest priority thread level as a core priority to an input/output APIC. The I/O APIC routes interrupt requests to the core APIC with the lowest core priority. The selected core APIC then routes the interrupt request to the corresponding lowest priority thread. Each core APIC detects changes in priority levels of its corresponding processor core threads, and notifies the I/O APIC of any change to the corresponding core priority. Each core APIC may notify the I/O APIC as the core priority changes, or when the I/O APIC requests status from each core APIC.

  • Patent number: 8179165
Abstract: A sampling circuit including a number of state elements or flip-flops. The state elements or flip-flops are each clocked by a signal that causes them to sample their inputs at a predetermined time. In sampling a plurality of digital inputs, a captured delay chain value is stored by the sampling circuit. Each flip-flop holds one bit and together the total number of bits represent this captured delay chain value. Each flip-flop is provided with a data and a data complement signal as an input, the data and data complement signal being substantially simultaneous. In operation each flip-flop includes a direct connection of the data and data complement signals to a pair of transistors that further operate to capture the logical value carried by the input.

  • Patent number: 8180783
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for ranking document data retrieved from a data source in response to a search request. A ranking system retrieves document data from documents in the data source that each includes at least one key term that matches a search term in the search request. For each document, a term frequency value is calculated based on a number of occurrences of the key term in the document. Prefix and suffix term rules are used to determine whether a particular occurrence of the key term in a particular document should be included in determining a term weight value for that particular occurrence of the key term. A relevancy ranking value is determined for each document based on the corresponding term frequency and term weight values. The document data is displayed according to each document's corresponding relevancy ranking value.

  • Patent number: 8163870
Abstract: The present invention provides a family of peptides based upon the M2GlyR sequence. These peptides are derivatives of the M2GlyR sequence and can be modified at their ends to include a plurality of polar amino acid residues to enhance their solubility. Particularly preferred derivatives include portions of the M2GlyR sequence which are palindromic to another portion of the peptide or to the M2GlyR sequence itself. Preferably these portions are at least 7 amino acid residues in length. Peptides embraced by the present invention are characterized by having greater effects on the transepithelial electrical resistance of cells at lower concentrations. Peptides of the present invention have been shown to increase Isc in MDCK epithelial cell monolayers with half maximal effects observed at or below 30 ?M, a nearly 10-fold improvement over any peptide previously characterized in the M2GlyR family.

  • Patent number: 8163896
Abstract: The present invention relates to a first group of novel genes, here identified as genomic address messenger or GAM genes, and a second group of novel operon-like genes, here identified as genomic record or GR genes. GAM genes selectively inhibit translation of known ‘target’ genes, many of which are known to be involved in various diseases. Nucleic acid molecules are provided respectively encoding 200 GAM genes, and 1096 GR genes, as are vectors and probes both comprising the nucleic acid molecules, and methods and systems for detecting GAM and GR genes and specific functions and utilities thereof, for detecting expression of GAM and GR genes, and for selectively enhancing and selectively inhibiting translation of the respective target genes thereof.

  • Patent number: 8161084
Abstract: A garbage collector determines a target amount of heap space to deallocate, estimates an amount of heap space reachable by a plurality of soft references by determining a cumulative size of no more than an exploration bound N number of objects reachable from each soft reference, and deallocates heap space based on the target amount and the estimate of the heap space reachable from the soft references. Deallocating heap space may include clearing at least one soft reference. If the estimate is inaccurate, it may be utilized regardless or modified to account for inaccuracy. The least-recently-used or the largest soft reference may be cleared until the total cleared space reachable exceeds the target amount. By performing a bounded analysis, the garbage collector may be able to make a more informed decision about whether to clear a soft reference without consuming the full amount of resources consumed by an exhaustive analysis.
