  • Patent number: 4082353
Abstract: An inertia-responsive vehicle seat back latch mechanism for a vehicle seat assembly having a seat back pivotally supported for forwardly tilting movement, wherein said latch mechanism includes a seat back stud for moving with the seat back, a locking pawl pivotally attached to the seat cushion support which is adapted to engage the seat back stud, and a latching pawl pivotally attached to the seat cushion support for preventing the rotation of the locking pawl. The locking pawl is disposed to engage the seat back stud but is cammable free of the seat back stud thereby allowing forward tilting of the seat back; however, during a vehicle deceleration greater than a predetermined value, the latching pawl will prevent rotation of the locking pawl and thereby the locking pawl will lockingly engage the seat back stud thereby preventing forward tilting of the seat back.

  • Patent number: 4082339
Abstract: A non-suction cup-type instrument for the insertion and removal of soft contact lenses is made of surgical rubber. It includes a central portion which looks somewhat like a suction cup having two sides cut away, and has small wedge-shaped contact lens-engaging elements or members protruding inwardly from each side of this suction cup-like member. It is again particularly noted that no suction cup action is involved in the present instrument. The instrument is also provided with two resilient arms which are aligned with the wedge-shaped contact lens engaging elements and which may be employed to support these elements and hold the lens more firmly once they are engaged. The space between the two wedge-shaped contact lens-engaging members, which incidentally have an overall configuration corresponding to opposed segments of a circle, is such that they are spaced apart by slightly less than the diameter of a contact lens.

  • Patent number: 4080980
Abstract: An improved backflow preventing valve having an inlet passage opening to an intermediate chamber via an improved inlet check valve with the intermediate chamber opening to an outlet passage via an improved outlet check valve. A diaphragm chamber communicates with the intermediate chamber having a diaphragm therein dividing the diaphragm chamber into an inlet pressure portion opening into the inlet passage and an intermediate pressure portion opening to the intermediate chamber. An exhaust passage opening to atmosphere communicates with the intermediate pressure portion whereby fluid normally flows from the inlet passage through the intermediate chamber to the outlet passage but upon attempted backflow of the fluid, the improved check valves close with a positive closing action to prevent such backflow and, upon failure of the outlet check valve, the diaphragm flexes to open to vent such backflowing fluid out the exhaust passage.

  • Patent number: 4079893
Abstract: An airbrush includes a body at the forward end of the airbrush and a plume at the rear end, the plume being for balancing the airbrush and supporting it in the user's hand. A source of fluid is included in the airbrush to be dispersed therefrom, and a needle valve through which fluid from the source flows is mounted on the body portion and the source of fluid is also connected to the needle valve. Air in an air passage passes over the needle valve to create a partial vacuum thereover to draw fluid from the source of fluid out of the needle valve and into the stream of air and out of the airbrush. An air valve on the body portion controls the flow of air through the air passage. An air supply provides air to the air passage from a source of air, and the air supply is mounted to the air passage on the plume so that the air valve is spaced from the air supply mounting to minimize the distance from the air valve to the needle valve to decrease the pressure drop between them.

  • Patent number: 4076278
Abstract: A flowline connector device for subsea well operations in which a connector means on the end of the flowline is moved laterally into position for connection to a fixed connector means on a subsea station. The connector means on the subsea station includes an axially movable mandrel located within a chamber in a body member, the mandrel having sealing surfaces at one end thereof juxtaposed to sealing surfaces on the flowline connector member when laterally positioned. A fluid pressure actuated locking means moves said sealing surfaces on the mandrel into sealed relationship with the sealing surfaces on the flowline connector member and locks the sealing surfaces in fluid tight sealed relation. A mechanical backup lock means for the mandrel is carried by the connector means on the subsea station for positively and unyieldingly mechanically locking the mandrel in fluid tight sealed relation. In the event of a drop in fluid pressure, leakage at the sealing surfaces is prevented by the mechanical locking device.

  • Patent number: 4068254
Abstract: An integrated circuit including an FET and an analog for cancelling input current that would otherwise be required to supply the FET gate leakage current. The analog establishes a leakage current the magnitude of which is a substantially fixed proportion of the FET leakage current over a given operating range, and employs proportional current mirror means referenced to the analog leakage current to supply the FET leakage current and thereby substantially cancel the input bias current. In a preferred embodiment the analog comprises a lateral PNP multi-collector transistor with one collector connected to its base to establish a reference current, another collector providing the cancellation current, and its base voltage tracking the FET gate voltage so that the two leakage currents remain substantially equal. An analog FET may also be employed to cancel gate-to-drain and gate-to-source leakages. A description of the invention as applied to an operational amplifier is given.

  • Patent number: 4063477
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting a piece of pre-shaped carpet to pattern. The apparatus includes a bottom support platen, a common support having depending therefrom, a top pressing platen and vertically-cutting blades. The bottom support platen and the top pressing platen are shaped to conform to the shape of the pre-shaped carpet. The common support is moved vertically down so that the top pressing platen exerts substantial pressure on the carpet, and the common support continues to move down so that the vertically-cutting blades cut the carpet. The common support then moves up, lifting the blades up, followed by the reduction and release of the pressure on the carpet. In a preferred embodiment of the method and apparatus, a peripheral support member and peripheral pressing member are provided to firmly hold the extreme edge of the carpet so that the section of the carpet to be cut is held taut during the cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4060867
Abstract: In a double-tubed life vest with the inside marginal edges of the tubes fastened to each other temporary connecting members on the tubes releasably hold the outside marginal edges of the tubes together. The temporary connecting members are released when the gas pressure in the vest is greater than a given pressure. The gas occupies a first volume when the temporary connecting members are holding the corresponding sections of the tubes together such that the first volume of gas at the first pressure provides sufficient buoyancy to the life vest to support a body. The gas can occupy a second volume when the temporary connecting members are released to allow the gas to occupy a greater volume such that the addition of more gas in the tubes provides greater buoyancy to the body.
