  • Patent number: 8344853
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for providing security in an RFID system and provides a secure active RFID architecture that uses a combination of passive and active RFID circuitry and employs authentication and encryption techniques in the processing of data, at rest and over the air. In the method of communicating securely in an RFID system of the present invention, a random number is generated with the passive RFID circuitry. The random number is forwarded to a reader. The reader is authenticated by comparing a first hash value determined from a hash function of the random number generated at the RFID tag and an Authenticated Facility Group ID stored on the RFID tag with a second hash value determined from the hash function of the forwarded random number and an Authenticated Facility Group ID stored in the reader such that if the first hash value matches the second hash value the reader is authenticated.

  • Patent number: 8339918
Abstract: An optical reading system is provided to improve read signal quality with increasing its linear recording density. An optical recording medium in which the distance from a light incident surface to an information recording layer is less than 100 ?m is irradiated with a laser beam through an objective lens and information stored in the information recording layer is read by means of a PRML detection method. At this time, the constraint length n in the PRML detection method is set to an integer which satisfies 0.5×(?/NA)/(LV/f)?1<n<0.5×(?/NA)/(LV/f)+1, wherein ? represents the wavelength of the laser beam, NA represents the numerical aperture of the objective lens, LV represents the linear velocity of the optical recording medium when recording, and f represents a channel bit frequency when recording.

  • Patent number: 8339908
Abstract: An optical recording and reading method is provided in which the information necessary for recording and reading layers is quickly acquired to reduce the seek time during reading and recording. The optical recording and reading method is used for an optical recording medium that includes a plurality of recording and reading layers and a servo layer. Information is recorded on or read from the recording and reading layers by irradiating them with a recording and reading beam while the servo layer is irradiated with a servo beam to perform tracking control. When information is recorded on the recording and reading layers, control information necessary for subsequent recording and reading to be performed on the recording and reading layers is recorded on the servo layer 18. When the subsequent recording or reading is performed, the control information on the servo layer is consulted, and then the recording or reading is performed on the recording and reading layers.

  • Patent number: 8298307
Abstract: An abrasive that can impart a mirror finish, glossiness, or the like to a surface of a workpiece by blasting is provided. A crosslinked polyrotaxane compound having a network structure where crosslinking points are circular molecules of polyrotaxane and also having abrasive grains dispersedly mixed therein is obtained by causing chemical bonding between the circular molecules of the polyrotaxane in a state where the abrasive grains and the polyrotaxane are mixed. Then, the crosslinked polyrotaxane compound is granulated to a predetermined grain diameter to obtain a gel-like abrasive where a part of the dispersedly mixed abrasive grain is exposed at the surface. By using the thus-obtained gel-like abrasive in blasting by projecting the abrasive at an angle tilted with respect to a surface of a workpiece, mirror finishing or the like is possible without making the surface of the workpiece pearskin-like.

  • Patent number: 8294824
Abstract: Using a background-side image which is a shot of an arbitrary background and a material-side image which is a shot of a composition material against the same background, two images are compared to extract an image material to be composited. Images shot in any scenery can thus be used to extract a composition material, being part of the images, without using a certain background such as a blue screen.

  • Patent number: 8277277
Abstract: In blasting with an abrasive containing liquid to confer elasticity, the abrasive from which liquid evaporates in the course of continuance use is uniformly supplied with liquid. Liquid for swelling an elastic abrasive is sprayed in an air flow for transporting the abrasive in a blasting machine 1 including an abrasive-recovery duct 91 communicating between a bottom of a cabinet 2 and an abrasive-recovery tank 3, the abrasive-recovery tank 3, a compressed gas before being introduced into a blasting gun 8, and so forth. Since the abrasive being transported in the air flow is separated into individual particles, each abrasive can be uniformly supplied with liquid.

  • Patent number: 8268247
Abstract: An electrophoresis apparatus is generally disclosed for sequentially analyzing a single sample or multiple samples having one or more analytes in high or low concentrations. The apparatus comprises a relatively large-bore transport capillary which intersects with a plurality of small-bore separation capillaries and includes a valve system. Analyte concentrators, having antibody-specific (or related affinity) chemistries, are stationed at the respective intersections of the transport capillary and separation capillaries to bind one or more analytes of interest. The apparatus allows the performance of two or more dimensions for the optimal separation of analytes. The apparatus may also include a plurality of valves surrounding each of the analyte concentrators to localize each of the concentrators to improve the binding of one or more analytes of interest.

  • Patent number: 8258927
Abstract: The present invention provides one or more powered wireless transponders and/or one or more passive wireless transponder devices communicating with a reader/interrogator and the method of efficiently inventorying these devices without the risk of eavesdropping. A reader transmits a random number and transponders generate their own random number. The transponders whose random number matches all or a part of the random number responds. If a collision occurs, the reader's random number can be changed and retransmitted until almost one transponder response is verified in a tree search algorithm. Specifically, the invention concerns a method for inventorying wireless transponders providing anti-eavesdropping anti-collision.

  • Patent number: 8250688
Abstract: A bedding straightening system attached to a base of an ordinary bed, including a blanket air distributor, bottom sheet side air distributors, connectors, bottom sheet, top blanket and sheet. A series of ducts or hoses which carry the air expelled from the air compressor or air expelling turbine towards different outlet points are located around the perimeter of the bed and connected to the bedding by a blanket air distributor and bottom sheet side air distributors. The bedding includes at least one bottom sheet and one bedspread. The bottom sheet when inflated produces tension on the sheet structure causing the straightening thereof. Air outlets protrude outwardly from the base of the bed through hoses disposed beneath the bottom sheet in order to lift and ventilate the bottom sheet.

  • Patent number: 8248981
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for establishing a highly mobile, long range secure wireless network with dynamic topologies and near full connectivity with acceptable latency using low cost, low power, compact and lightweight devices. One aspect of the system deals with a highly mobile network with dynamic network topologies and a time varying wireless medium that has neither absolute nor readily observable boundaries outside of which radio nodes are known to be unable to receive network frames, although the desirable open field boundary is 1 mile in radius from a base station node. A synchronous frequency hopping technique is used with mobile nodes that can become slave base station nodes to a master base station node to increase the effective range of the master base station without increasing the transmit power.
