  • Patent number: 5202566
Abstract: A protection system for a video display terminal (VDT) is designed for two basic purposes, first, the blockage and absorption of EMF, ultraviolet and X-rays from the VDT, and second, the elimination of glare from ambient light directly impacting the eye and reflected from the screen VDT. The invention comprises a dark, dull enclosure which adjustably connects to the front of the VDT and has a first, lower reflector having a metal-based reflective surface absorb some harmful rays and reflects the visual image and some of the harmful rays from the VDT to a second, upper reflector having an organic-based reflective surface which reflects the visual light spectrum image forward, so that it can be viewed by persons sitting in front of the VDT while allowing the harmful higher-frequency radiation to harmlessly pass through the plastic material.

  • Patent number: 5197253
Abstract: Construction utilizing composite pultrusion technology incorporates an internal web structure in the elongated members themselves, increasing the strength-to-weight ratio, while providing support for joint notches due to the strategic positioning of the webs. The joints themselves are modified to accommodate the exiting of one or two members from the joint at an oblique angle to provide more construction flexibility to make diagonal braces, for example. The improved techniques are incorporated into a power transmission tower which takes advantage of the electrical qualities inherent in composites to produce a mechanically and electrically strong tower.

  • Patent number: 5193252
Abstract: A preferably palm-sized cleat which is generally oval in shape defines a passageway for a line to pass completely through the body of the cleat. The body of the cleat has mutually resilient sides which bias internal structure in the body into a locked mode in which the line is gripped by the internal structure and will not slide through the passage way. When the sides of the body are squeezed together, the line is freed and will move freely in either direction through the passageway.

  • Patent number: 5178573
Abstract: The doll set utilizes a ferromagnetic backing panel such as a thin sheet of steel, a representation of a human figure such as a little girl, and a series of clothing and other accessories which are applied over the representation of the human figure. The human figure can either be applied by printing to paper lying over the front of the ferromagnetic backing panel or it can be cut from a planar sheet of magnetic material, to be magnetically adhered to the steel sheet. The clothing and accessories are cut out of semi-flexible, ceramic magnetic material, and may be covered with printed paper, or textured cloth, to be temporarily magnetically bonded to the figure of the doll over the steel sheet, so that the child playing with the set can interchange outfits for the doll at will, and have a convenient place to keep the outfits that are not currently in use.

  • Patent number: 5147081
Abstract: A specialized desoldering iron utilizes a blade which takes the form of a quadrilateral enclosure having a pair of heating elements mounted to two opposite walls of the enclosure. The enclosure is shaped and dimensioned to fit over a quad flat pack integrated circuit such that the lower edges of the walls of the enclosure come down onto the soldered leads of the integrated circuit. The two heating elements provide enough heat to simultaneously desolder all of the leads of a large quad flat pack, and the enclosure is open-topped so that the large heat sinks which are mounted atop IC's that consume a high level of power do not interfere with the desoldering process.

  • Patent number: 5069185
Abstract: The electronic control module of the new generation of fuel injected internal combustion engines is adapted to compensate for variations in operating temperature or pressure readings among the cylinders, so that cylinders having a low temperature or pressure reading relative to the others will receive an increased flow of injected fuel, whereas cylinders running at a relatively high temperature and pressure compared to the other cylinders will receive a decreased fuel injection, so that the cooler cylinders run hotter and the hotter cylinders run cooler. The uniformity of power delivery among the cylinders, which is the object of the operating temperature and pressure adjustment, yields a more even delivery of power and a more efficient use of fuel.
