  • Patent number: 7043537
Abstract: A manufacturing method enables the manufacture of a remotely controlled network device management system. The manufacturing method includes the steps of obtaining a software program, obtaining a downloadable unit (e.g. an applet) configured to communicate with the software program, compiling the software program into a binary file, embedding the downloadable unit into the binary file, and loading the binary file with the embedded downloadable unit onto the network device. A management method enables a remote client to manage the network device. The management method includes the steps of receiving from a remote client a request to manage a software program which has a binary file with an embedded downloadable unit, locating the downloadable unit embedded in the binary file, extracting the downloadable unit from the binary file, and forwarding the downloadable unit to the remote client.

  • Patent number: 7039866
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing dynamic force sensations for use with a force feedback interface device. A force feedback interface device is connected to a host computer that implements a graphical environment. The host sends commands and command parameters to the interface device to initiate and characterize dynamic force sensations output on a user manipulatable object, such as a joystick. The interface device can include a local microprocessor for implementing force sensations by controlling actuators and reading sensors according to the host commands. A dynamic force routine can control the dynamic force sensations by implementing a simulated physical system including a simulated mass capable of motion independent of the user object. The physical system provides forces on the user object influenced by motion of both the user object and the simulated mass.

  • Patent number: 7039048
Abstract: A headend or central office or satellite uplink facility for receiving upstream video-on-demand requests and MPEG transport streams containing video program data and packetizing said video data into TCP/IP or UDP/IP packets and LAN packets and routing them through a switch to one or more cherrypicker multiplexers. Each cherrypicker multiplexer receives LAN packets, depacketizes the MPEG data, partially or fully decompresses the data and recompresses the data to another smaller bandwidth, and repacketizes the data into MPEG packets or TCP/IP or UDP/IP packets. The repacketized TCP/IP or UDP/IP packets are transmitted directly to the customer as TCP/IP or UDP/IP packet data. MPEG packets generated by the cherrypicker multiplexer are, optionally, encapsulated in LAN packets addressed to an IP dewrapper circuit. There, they are depacketized back to MPEG packets and transmitted to the appropriate transmitter or modem for transmitting to a customer.

  • Patent number: 7038417
Abstract: Ascertaining through integration a bias calibration level for a current control loop of a driver motor of a tape drive. The driver motor includes a current controller having as inputs a demand signal, a bias signal, and a feedback signal. The current controller includes an integrator coupled to the output. The method includes setting the demand signal to a zero current level, setting the bias signal to a level that substantially prevents the integrator from driving itself high, stepping down the bias signal to form a stepped down bias signal, measuring a sense parameter at the output of the current controller, determining whether the sense parameter is high for the stepped down bias signal, and setting the bias calibration level to a level sufficiently above the stepped down bias signal such that the integrator is not driven high when the demand signal is set to the zero current level.

  • Patent number: 7039950
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product for ensuring the quality of services being provided by a protected network of computers during an ongoing security breach is provided. The quality of the services is ensured by performing secure Quality of Service actions on data packets on the network. The sQoS actions depend on whether the data packets correspond to an attack on the computer to which they are directed, called the destination computer. If the data packet corresponds to an attack, then the actions also depend on the type of attack. In case there is no attack, the actions depend on the history of attacks by data packets that had originated from the same source computer and were directed towards the same destination computer. Supported actions include HardenFW, ControlBW and ConnectionLimit.

  • Patent number: 7039140
Abstract: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) receiver embodiments of the invention provide data demodulator synchronization by finding the end of the short preamble in an IEEE-802.11a burst transmission. This method exploits the fact that there are certain symmetries in the long-preamble that can be used to determine synchronization. The long-preamble sequence is composed of a guard interval (GI) and two long-preamble symbols; the GI is the last 32 samples of the long-preamble symbol. The 32nd sample of the long-preamble acts as a “pilot” or “anchor” sample in that the previous N and subsequent N samples are complex conjugates, or conjugate “mirror” vectors. Due to the periodicities of the long-preamble, this property repeats every 32 samples. No other samples in the long preamble exhibit this property. Coherent combining is used in one embodiment for robustness.

  • Patent number: 7037049
Abstract: Rotary cutting tool, in particular for high speed machining with nano-lubrication. The lubricant is fed to the end surface of the cutting part (12) of the tool through a central lubrication channel (22) drilled along the axis of rotation (10) of the tool, with one non-through end, located just near the end surface, which is connected to the latter by secondary channels (24) opening near each end cutting edge (20). Cutting parameters relating, in particular, to the end dedendum angle, the width of end clearance and the width of the circular land of each cutting edge further improve the quality of the work carried out.

  • Patent number: 7034325
Abstract: A device for measuring the concentration of a gas contained in a cavity and for checking the operation of a catalytic element in an exhaust line in an automobile vehicle. A first emitter (E1) composed of an optical pumped micro-cavity and for which the emission spectrum is within the gas absorption band emits a first radiation that passes through the cavity. A second emitter emits a second radiation that passes through the cavity. A receptor measures the optical intensity (I) of the radiation that passed through the cavity.

  • Patent number: 7036142
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing single-step logon access for a subscriber to a differentiated computer network having more than one separate access area. In a method for single-step logon a network gateway interface grants a subscriber access to both one or more public network domains, such as the Internet, and one or more private domains, such as community of interest domains or intra-network domains, without requiring the subscriber to launch a separate logon application. Once the subscriber has completed a single step logon to the network interface, the service provider is able to provide the subscriber with simultaneous secure channel access to both public areas and secured private areas.

  • Patent number: 7033118
Abstract: A retaining wall and face for an earthen formation is provided by embedding generally horizontally disposed welded wire soil reinforcing mats within the formation at vertically spaced intervals and securing face members between successive soil reinforcing mats at the face of the formation. The soil-reinforcing mats comprise spaced longitudinal elements extending into the formation and spaced transverse elements welded to and extending across the longitudinal elements in a disposition wherein an outer of the transverse elements extends across the face of the formation and an inner of the elements is spaced inwardly of the face. Each face member is secured between successive upper and lower soil-reinforcing mats by extending an upper portion of the face member behind the outer transverse element of the upper soil reinforcing mat and securing an inwardly extending portion of the face member to connection with an inner transverse element of the lower soil reinforcing mat.
