  • Patent number: 5623402
Abstract: A method and apparatus for multi-channel control of a multiple input, multiple output, servo-driven plant utilizes finite impulse response (FIR) filters to model the inverse of the plant. Each channel includes a servo FIR filter that generates a servo command to drive the plant's servo controller, a valve current FIR filter that bypasses the PID stage of the servo controller to avoid undesirable effects of the PID loop, and a cross FIR filter for each of the remaining channels that compensates for physical coupling in the plant between the channels. The servo FIR filter is calculated by an adaption routine that involves applying an identification signal to the plant, applying the plant's response to the filter and then updating the filter's coefficients using the error that exists between the identification signal and the filter output.

  • Patent number: 5605288
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a fluid flow apparatus including a discharge nozzle arrangement comprising a single continuous, meandering stainless steel strand to create a planar screen operatively connected at its outer periphery to a diffuser chamber. The screen is adapted to retain a volume of fluid thereabove until the fluid is forced under pressure through the openings between adjacent segments of the strand. Portions of the screen are adapted to flex resiliently downwardly, out of the plane of the outer periphery, to provide additional clearances between adjacent segments of the screen, in the event particulates should tend to build-up, to thereby resist clogging by flushing same. The round cross-section of the strand facilitates continual cleanliness, and serves to produce better-behaved flow out of the nozzle, thereby reducing foaming of the product being discharged during the filling operation.

  • Patent number: 5605417
Abstract: A process for improving degradation, stabilization, detoxification and volume reduction of refuse within an unsecured landfill. The process comprises the control of ground water and extracting the ground water for use as a liquid medium to facilitate creation and recirculation of leachate. The present process requires that landfill leachate be collected and recycled back into the landfill. The process additionally includes the injection of selected wastes and additives into the leachate, leachate enroute to be recirculated through the landfill. The materials which can be added to the leachate alter the mix of physical and chemical conditions within the landfill so as to accelerate the rate of leachate stabilization, accelerate the rate of conversion and stabilization of organic and inorganic refuse within the landfill, reduce the volume of landfill refuse, and reduce the potential toxicity of refuse. The landfill thus becomes an anaerobic biological reactor with physical-chemical treatment capabilities.

  • Patent number: RE35519
Abstract: A method and apparatus for smooth-rolling and deep-rolling the journal pins of multi-crank crankshafts divides the crank pins into two groups, each including alternating crank pins, since the space between neighboring crank pins is insufficient for simultaneously rolling all of the pins including the main bearing pins in one operation. Each group of crank pins is then rolled separately in succession, whereby one group includes the main bearing pins. Thus, a crankshaft, including any number of closely spaced crank pins, can be completely machined in two rolling operations. In order to carry out this method a rolling apparatus includes crank pin rolling devices for each of the pins of one group. The rolling devices are axially slideably adjustable in unison between two determinable positions in which they may be fixed or locked after adjustment.
