Abstract: The present invention is directed to the use of a solution of a percarbonate compound to prevent fouling during the basic washing of hydrocarbons containing oxygenated compounds. More specifically, oxygenated compounds such as carbonyl containing organics have a tendency to polymerize, producing fouling elements when such are contained in hydrocarbons being washed with basic materials. Solutions of percarbonate compounds are quite effective in reducing the fouling tendencies due to these specific mechanisms.
Abstract: Reaction products of polyalkenyl succinic anhydrides with aromatic secondary amines, then further reacted with aminoalcohols are used as effective antifoulants in liquid hydrocarbonaceous mediums, such as crude oils and gas oils, during processing of such liquids at elevated temperatures. The reaction products are formed via a two-step reaction in which a polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride precursor is reacted with an aromatic secondary amine to form polyalkenylsuccinamide intermediate which, in turn, is reacted with an aminoalcohol.
Abstract: Polyalkenylsuccinimide-boron compound reaction products are used as effective antifoulants in liquid hydrocarbonaceous mediums, such as crude oils and gas oils, during processing of such liquids at elevated temperatures. The reaction products are formed via a two-step reaction in which a polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride precursor is reacted with an amine to form polyalkenylsuccinimide intermediate which, in turn, is reacted with a boron compound.
Abstract: Partially glycolated polyalkenylsuccinimide-diisocyanate reaction products are used as effective antifoulants in liquid hydrocarbonaceous mediums, such as crude oils and gas oils, during processing of such liquids at elevated temperatures. The reaction products are formed via a three-step reaction in which a polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride precursor is reacted with an amine to form polyalkenylsuccinimide intermediate which, in turn, is reacted with glycolic acid to form a partially glycolated bis-alkenyl succinimide, followed by adding a diisocyanate to the succinimide.
Abstract: A method for deinking dry toner electrostatic printed wastepaper is disclosed. The method includes administering a sufficient amount of an ethoxylated surfactant, propoxylated surfactant, esterified surfactant or alkanolamide surfactant having an HLB value of less than 10.0 to a sample of electrostatic printed wastepaper for which treatment is desired.
Abstract: Phosphorus derivatives of polyalkenylsuccinimides and methods of use of such derivatives as antifoulants in liquid hydrocarbonaceous mediums, such as crude oil, during processing at elevated temperatures are disclosed. The derivatives are formed via reaction of a polyalkenylsuccinimide intermediate with formaldehyde and a phosphorus compound having at least one acidic hydrogen P-H bond. The intermediate is first formed via reaction of polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride and polyamine.

Abstract: A composition and method for controlling corrosion of steel in aqueous systems such as cooling and boiler systems. The combination of a nonionic surfactant and an anionic oxygen containing group such as one or more alkali metal salts of borate, molybdate and nitrate/nitrite provide improved corrosion inhibition of steel in aqueous systems. The magnetite layers formed in the presence of this combination exhibit decreased porosity and increased corrosion resistance to acidic solutions. This combination also inhibits entry of hydrogen into steel when exposed to acidic solutions thereby inhibiting hydrogen embrittlement. The preferred nonionic surfactant is phenol/polyethylene oxide nonionic surfactant and the preferred alkali metal salt is Na.sub.2 MoO.sub.4.
